"Note: I would actually rate the 2 stars Food as 2 1/2 stars. It was better than fair but not quite good enough in comparison. The atmosphere was small and cozy. The booth table was a very odd shape with one slanted edge which made it difficult to get in without moving the table. Once seated, we had plenty of room for multiple dishes. There were four in our party. We started out with drinks, a margarita and a beer. The margarita was considered absolutely delicious-5 Stars! It was fruity with mango and Grand Marnier. Everyone sampled it and agreed! (There was a lady Bartender.) The Blue Moon beer was also enjoyed. The tortilla chips were good with a smooth salsa with a little heat. Because of one review, we tried the rattlesnake bites. Watch out! They were potent and too hot for most of us. We laughed about their effect. We decided not to order them again. The second appetizer was good. (Don't recall the name.) Our waiter was humorous, friendly and attentive but a bit difficult to understand. The main course took a while to deliver but we didn't mind having time to chat and eat the appetizers. Once the main course arrived, we all liked the food but it was not great. The fajitas were good with tender chicken; but, they had a different smoky taste that was not very good. The chimichanga chicken was hot, moist and tender; but, the wrap was soggy and felt a bit raw in places when it was advertised as crispy and the beans and rice were just warm. There was not much flavor and there was no sauce. It did have a piped dab of tasty guacamole, sour cream and tomatoes on top which looked nice. The specialty burrito was good with nice cilantro flavor and guacamole and cheese topping, The other burrito was very large. The person who ordered it did not comment on the flavor and left most of it uneaten. All in all, it was pretty good/not bad, just not great. If we were in the area, we would have dinner there again; but, we would not drive the distance we did for another meal."
"Love this place. The food was fresh and hot. The server was very nice unaccommodating. Great food, Great service. Awesome margarita's! I had the jalapeno infused tequila margarita and its was fantastic. Spicy with juts a touch of sweet. Can't wait to go back."

"Chose this restaurant based on the reviews posted online (4.5 stars) to take 7 friends for dinner. We drove from a distance to celebrate a special occasion in this restaurant. What a major regret. I made reservation through Open Table because I thought it would be very busy based on the many good reviews I read. When we got at the restaurant, the manager and the waitress had no idea about my reservation. El Hidalgo environment was OK, but the food was poorly made and terrible: tasteless, cold and burnt, and the waitress messed up our orders. The restaurant was not busy at all. The price charged per meal was basically the same as those meals one can get at On the Board or any other Mexican restaurant, however, the quality of El Hidalgo food was very bad. Whoever highly reviewed this restaurant must be a family member, friend of the manager/owner, or is part of the staff. If so, instead of posting fake reviews to attract customers, El Hidalgo must improve the quality of its food so the customers will return many times to enjoy its business."
