"Valentino is still thriving after most LA restaurants of this age have passed away. The menu has simplified over the years and is a trifle less traditional. Good job with crudo. The phone book-like wine list alone is reason to go--and the staff always has excellent suggestions at all price points. A winner!"

"Aside from an ice cream cake that melted into soup after dinner ( my boyfriend stopped at carvel to surprise me, he asked valentino to freeze the cake to take home, they ended up serving us the cake and not freezing it, oh well), the food was amazing. Best Italian food ever! Service was very nice.

"We'd read the positive reviews, so went with high hopes. However, the evening was largely disappointing. We were placed on a table that barely saw service - 3 times we were sitting there, wine glasses empty, while our bottle was in some distant ice bucket. The food was old-fashioned, much of it overcooked, and really ordinary. My wife's market salad had zero taste, and her ossobucco was bland, and devoid of marrowbone. My stuffed calamari was overcooked and soft, its contents mushy, while my Scottish salmon was neither good nor bad. The Jermann pinot grigio was the star of the evening. We did not feel like dessert. This may be one of those time warp places that looks after you if you've been going for years, but not if you're new?"

"Valentino is perhaps one of the finest italian restaurants in Los Angeles. They are celebrating their 40th anniversary so you know they are doing something right. The food is fabulous (the veal chop is the best, pasta is perfect), wine selection is outstanding and the entire staff is friendly, helpful and knowledgable. Piero is warm and gracious and when he greets you at the door it is if he is inviting you into his home. Congratulations Pierro for 40 wondering years ... may you continue to reign for many more years to come!"

"I chose Valentino as Italian cuisine is my Girlfriend's favorite. It was her Birthday and I couldn't wait to spoil her with an exquisite dinner. The food was great. I had the Ossobucco and she had the Scallops. Great dishes. However, my problem lies with the service. Maybe it's because we were clearly 10 years younger than most of the other patrons, or the fact that I pulled up in a Toyota and not a Mercedes or Audi or Ferrari, but we were neglected from the start. It took us 15 minutes to place a drink order even after a table who sat after us were immediately greeted and taken care of. Our server, who I would describe as smug, took our order and to my surprise was never seen again. I could go on some more but I've run out of characters."

"We were looking forward to experiencing Valentino's for quite a while. We decided to make it our destination to celebrate our Valentine's day. Unfortunately, we were quite disappointed. It took them 25 minutes before we ever got drinks and had to ask for a menu several times. At one point the waiter said " I can show you the men's room". We were seated in btwn 2 loud parties which didn't help the ambiance since my husband and I wanted a quiet, romantic dinner. I received someone else's salad where I had to politely tell the server we had yet to order. I'm sure they can do better but I won't go back to try it. Not with so many other stellar choices around."

"Although Valentino's has excellent food & good service, we found it disconcerting that after $400 for dinner (for 2), we had to wait 10 minutes to get our car from the valet even though we were among the first in the restaurant!
...Judging by the tag on the key ring when I received the keys back, I learned the car had been parked 2 blocks away (It said "US Bank"). ...I felt that it had been moved quite unnecessarily--especially since the earliest diners would seek their cars the soonest.
If we came later, perhaps it would have been understandable. We were left with the uncomfortable feeling that perhaps our car, a Honda Civic, was an embarrassment for Valentino's to leave it on the main lot despite it being among the first ones the"

"Excellent and memorable as always. We were in LA celebrating our son's 21st birthday. Owner Piero Selvaggio took the time to recommend an appropriate Italian wine at the price point we wanted. Not only did Piero stay at our table to open the wine, he took the time to show our son how to properly taste the wine, providing him with a memorable birthday experience. It is easy to see the joy that Piero takes in making his customers happy. It's too bad we have moved to the San Francisco Bay area and cannot visit Valentino more often."
