"I've wanted to go to Strega for a long time. The food was great. I had cioppino that had half a lobster, a whole claw and tons of mussels, little neck and shrimp. The service was great. Our waiter was from Italy and was very knowledgeable about the menu. When we first sat down the manager came over and said they could make us anything we like that we don't see on the menu and that if we wanted to change anything the answer is yes! Great! The only drawback is they don't have a full bar...."

"Amazing food. My husband, son and I all had different apps and main courses, and each was fantastic. My son had the seafood app, grilled in a balsamic glaze which was fantastic, and the fish stew, which although messy to eat, was well worth it. My husband says the mozzarella and tomato app is amazing and the sole main course is the best he has had. We will definitely return. The waiter was friendly and knowledgable."

"I live in New York and went with two friends who live near Boston. They have never been there and we were all looking forward to our dinner. Unfortunately it only lasted 50 minutes because Strega is only interested in turning tables not insuring their customers have a pleasant dining experience. The food wad good but not outstanding so there is no reason to go back. In fact I told a friend that is visiting Boston in two weeks to steer clear of Strega."

"Place was jammed, but that is part of the gig in the North End. If restaurants are not jammed, then they are not that good - general rule of thumb. Had to wait 20 minutes to be seated, but the food made up for it. Best lemon chicken I had in years. Complimentary cocktail due to the extra wait. Joe (at the door) kept checking on us. Nice touch. Very friendly wait staff and not just going thru the numbers. They actually cared. Food was presented quickly and attractively, and very tasty. Grated parm cheese with oil on the bread - yummy. We sat at a high top for two table at the end of the bar, overlooking Hanover Street. Not really in the crowded restaurant part of the bldg, but could not have been better."

"My wife and I have been to Strega now fewer than a dozen times and it is easily our favorite restaurant. When special guests for work or friends who are new to travelling in Boston come into town, Strega is often the place we go. We have never had even a mediocre meal or average service, everything is always above average. The host was as charming as always and Carlo, our favorite waiter (whom we always request) was there to greet us. Our friend from Seattle, whom I have had many amazing business dinners with in Seattle, was blown away by, well...everything. Her friend is from southern New Hampshire and had never been before and was gushing about how she would soon be taking her husband into town for the experience."

"This place does not stand out from the other places in the North End in any aspect. The decor was awful a kitch mix of traditional italian and (I guess) modern style. The food was mediocre at best. None of the dishes wowed me, they were all generic and things you could find in any so called italian restaurant in the neighborhood. When I asked for the "specials" the waiter described the same dishes he had 2 weeks before that, one first visit; nothing special about that. Overall, the food tasted ok, but It was heavy and lacked creativity."

"I was horrified at the service we got. I have been to the Strega at Waterfront and was quite impressed by their service. It seems that the server here did not care as they were quite busy, it was about just getting the job done. Left a very bad taste in my mouth. I don't plan on returning. PS not at all kid friendly."

"We celebrated our anniversary at Strega. Food is truly delicious. Presentation is appealing. It's very noisy but we adapted quickly and could still hear each other. Bar scene looked vibrant. The screens showing various films, all with Italian roots, was inventive, fun and soundless. Highly recommended."

"We had no idea what Boston's North End was like but had heard it was packed with great Italian restaurants. The food at Strega's was just okay and the atmosphere was even less. Later (after dining at our reserved time) we found an email from Strega's canceling our reservation. The restaurant wasn't even full. What 's up with that."

"The food was fantastic and the company was great. The seats were a little too closer for casual conversation and the table was too small for 2. We had 2 specials one sea bass and the other shrimp, lobster, mussels, clams, and calamari."

"The restaurant is small & very loud during prime dining time, but was pleasant once it cleared out a bit. We were seated at table against back wall which diffused a bit of the noise. The waiter was efficient but not overly friendly, if there were specials he didn't tell us about any, nor did he provide us w/recommendations. The food was fabulous overall-we had Strega Salad, Ceasar Salad & Fried Calamari. Calmarai was delicious, very tender & perfectly cooked, Ceasar was great but Strega salad was not my favorite- it was very bitter. I had Pappardelle w/Wild Mushrooms, Black Truffles & Cream-it was to die for! Husband had Carbonara & said it was delicious. Bread was fabulous too, especially olive bread! Overall a great meal, we will go back."

"I've been to Strega many times. My favorite on Boston's north end. From the olive bread to start, the veal as a main course, and the lemon cookies to finish I've never been disappointed. Make a reservation, this place is small and fills up."

"I have eaten here god knows how many times over the past 4 years, but I can say you will never find a better Italian meal in Boston then strega! If you have the pleasure/luck to have Carlo as your server I highly recommend him! If you cant Johnny is also OUTSTANDING! My wife and I try to go there at LEAST once a month. HAts off to the WHOLE crew at Strega North End!"

"The service, food, and atmosphere was eccellente here at Strega ! I believe everything from the bread to the desserts are created by eccellente chiefs that pour pride into their work. The service is outstanding with the waitstaff and bus boys concentrating on each customer to insure that they have the best experience at Strega. I can not wait to return to try some of the other scrumptious dishes. You will not be disappointed, and return many times. So much good food , so little time. Thank You Strega!"

"Strega is, in my opinion, the best quality food in the North End. The service staff is very attentive and pleasant, especially if you appreciate Italians. They are very accomodating from the time you enter until the valet pulls your car up. I would honestly recommend them to anyone I know, both personally or professionally."

"Each of our party of four picky people who have eaten at most of Boston's high end restaurants, loved our dinners. The Buffalo Mozzarella is the best we had ever had. All the dishes, which included shrimp and asparagus, salmon, lobster and alla amatriciana had all very fresh ingredients cooked to perfection. We had previously been to Strega Waterfront several times and equally enjoyed the North End version, which has a cozier, neighborhood feel. Can't wait to go back again!"

"Strega was recommended to us by some friends and we were very happy they did. I had the 1/2 lobster w/homemade pasta & tomatoes and my husband had the Sunday dinner with 2 kinds of sausage, meatballs & pasta. They were both amazing. I even asked if they would add artichokes to my dish which they happily did. The atmosphere is very lively and loud as it is a small place but it added to the experience instead of being a distraction. This is not the place for intimate conversation over dinner but it is GREAT italian food. Will definitely be back the next time we are in Boston."

"Awesome food and service, obviously a well-known place to go in the North End. It was my first time here. I was a little surprised that I could not hear myself think. The place was louder than Chucky Cheese or any sports bar (including during Bruins playoffs.) I can recommend it as a cool and trendy place to go, with quality food and service. Do not bring a date for a romantic evening though, the tables are close together (4 inches) and it's like trying to talk at an Aerosmith concert. The mussels were good, both salads were good, the pasta was good, the veal was good, as was the beer, the wine, and the service. So in summary it's like you could get the best Italian food in the city in a crowded sports bar that takes reservations."

"We were in Boston for my sons graduation and made reservations for 9 people. When we arrived we were greeted promptly and energetically. The waiter was excellent. He was attentive and knowledgeable about the food and wine. He suggested bringing appetizers to the table, which he did, and his choices were delicious. The entrees were very good, made better by the service. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants an authentic Italian dinner."

"We booked Strega for a dinner with a business group (6) in Boston for the evening. Although space between the tables is a bit tight, the overall experience was a pleasure. Our waiter ordered an assortment of antipasti for the table -- divers and all very good. Entrees were equally varied and well prepared. The wall of running videos of the "mob" movies are a bit of a schtick -- but the overall ambiance of this North End Italian mainstay was quite fun and enjoyable."

"A bit put off by a bait and switch tactic used by the waiter. My wife and brother in law ordered the short rib special which was to come with a side dish of lobster and pasta. However, we were informed that the waiter gave us an incorrect special, the special was a lamb shank which the waiter said would be prepared just like the original special he had informed us of. The surprise came on the bill when we saw the price of the special plus an additional up charge for the lobster, which we thought came with the special making the price of the dish nearly double anything else on the regular menu.
I guess the lesson learned is don't get talked into a meal in a touristy restaurant without knowing the full price of what you are getting."

"This may have been because of the Boston Marathon visitors - the restaurant was very packed. A little less crowded than the Grotto the night before so the sense of neighbors being closer than comfortable was less. Food was delicious. Good wine list."

"I booked my reservation at Strega to take a first date and it could not have gone better. The ease of the valet parking and the great ambiance and romantic setting set a great tone. Our waiter Gianni made sure our experience was top-notch. Although we were running a few minutes late for our reservation we only had to wait 5 minutes or so to be seated and immediately we were brought bread and a wine list. The food was to die for also. I will definitely be back!"

"Well this resturant is more than expected in many ways from top quality food to outstanding service. I go back to this place when there are hundreds in the area becuase it has never failed to give me a wonderful and satisfying dineing experience. My waitstaff in particular Carlo Ianniciello, yes he gave me his card, made my whole experience memorable. He suggested appitizers and wine that I would never have ordered and I will now order again. I think that is the best thing you can say about a quality place."

"The food was very good, but the meal felt rushed. My mother and I arrived at 6:00 on a Wednesday evening with a reservation. We were seated immediately. The servers were very attentive and friendly, but I felt like they were rushing us. With an app, entrees and then coffee, we were in & out in just over an hour. Not exactly the experience I was hoping for. It was cramped & loud but that's to be expected in the North End.
Overall, it was a fine experience but I won't be in rush to go back."

"I loved the food it was rich and seasoned well. The fresh pasta and eggplant was cooked to perfection and the canoli was amazing. The steak we order was cooked to perfection however the grade of steak was not what I was expecting. The service was amazing. The bus staff was extremely attentive and always right at hand to assist with anything we needed. The wait staff was friendly and informative about the menu. The ambiance is only rates a fair because they have a wall of brightly light yellow with 6 TV's that was very distracting. The wall colors are beautiful the fixtures and paintings are very nice, but the TV's throw it all off."

"Went to Strega for Restaurant Week. Mentioned that we were celebrating 2 birthdays on the reservation and also when I spoke to the hostess who called to remind me about the reservation. She mentioned that she saw the note. When we walked in, the restaurant was nice. Server was ok but did not wish my friends a Happy Birthday, went to Fleming's last year, their hostess and waiter wished my friends a Happy Birthday and they got a nice gift. Anyways, back to Strega. Beverages came quickly but we had to wait a bit for the appetizers, entrees and dessert. Had to flag down the waiter to let him know we were ready for dessert and another 15 minute wait for them. Never a mention of the birthdays. Not going back."
