"Our reservation for 9 guests was 11:15A. Of course, we were immediately seated. Max our waiter was nice but unorganized. He took the appetizer order. Then came back to take our meal order. It took quite a while for our appetizers to be served. In the meantime, a number of other diners came in. We were finished with the appetizers and I saw that another table who came in after us already received their entree. We really did not have anything that would take a long preparation time. I especially wondered why since we were in the restaurant before the other table, why we still had not received our food. It was probably after 12N that we were served. We then ordered dessert around 12:30- 12:40P. At 1:10P, (continued in the private note)"

"It is nice to have a place to enjoy great food with a personal touch. The waitstaff here starts off cheerful and continues with wonderful attention to how the dining experience is. My last 2 times here have been consistently enjoyable. I am always happy to know that there is concern for how the experience is going and that it is addressed right away....for example...our main dish took a little longer than expected and as a result, manager Ken made sure he apologized for the delay and provided dessert on the house....he went above the call of duty. However, this kind of attention makes me want to return and spread the good word about the great quality of food and service that is happening here now. Also the fish tacos were fantastic."

"SqWires is a good example of an original restaurant that has stayed fresh. The decor stays true to its beginnings but offers a comfortable eating environment. As the evening was perfect we chose to eat out front. Service was attentive and knowledgeable offering prompt attention without too much push. There was a little snafu with one order being behind the others. Prompt attention to the miscue and a quick apology made it easy to overlook and it did not affect the experience. The food was excellent. We didn't miss much having wine, appetizer, main course, dessert and coffee. It was a great experience that I would highly recommend to others. We will be back."

"Great all-purpose restaurant/bar. I've been there for happy hour, but this time was there with my parents for dinner. Both were fantastic. Their fish dishes are particularly fantastic. I had the Alaskan cod, dad had the salmon, and mom had a dish with clams. All were fantastic. Drinks are tasty, too. A great spot in a great neighborhood. Highly recommended."

"I dined here with business colleagues and we were very pleased with the quality of the food. The short ribs, in particular, got rave reviews. We were amazed at the size of the entrees - all could have fed 2 persons. The service was warm, friendly and efficient. I would definitely return and recommend SqWires to others."

"Loved the atmosphere, esp the piano music. Friendly service. Food creative but fair execution. Pancakes large, but not enough syrup. Eggs benedict:: eggs perfect, bread hard, steak a little tough. Needed more hollandaise sauce to moisten hard bread. Loved the mimosa bar."

"Service and ambiance was great for our first visit. We were well attended to by a patient wait staff who took great care of us. The apps (baked onion soup and wild mushrooms with baked goats cheese and pita wedges were outstanding. However, the season menu item of grilled asparagus with shrimp was not. If it's not prepared properly in advance of grilling, you'll be cutting off more woody ends that you end up eating. The staff at least did the right think by comp'ing the meal. Dessert was especially good, as we ordered a bread pudding with ice cream to split and they brought us two just for our trouble with the entrees. THAT is taking care of the customer in a way that's likely to bring them back through the door....and that's what we'll do!"

"I enjoyed the look of the restaurant and we were seated right at reservation time.

The descriptions of the entrees included a lot of detail, but none of that was present in the final dish. I ordered "roasted garlic & grilled 10 oz STRIP STEAK, blue cheese butter". The steak was under seasoned and no hint of garlic. The butter had no noticeable flavoring.

The other thing, that has never bothered me before, was the plating. The steak is served over a block of au gratin potatoes in a shallow bowl. This made cutting the steak difficult and there was no sauce for the bowl to collect. That made no sense.

Overall the meal was fine, but there was nothing about the evening to make me return."

"Loved the food and the quality of the service was excellent however; the speed of service was very slow. We arrived around 6:30pm and the restaurant was about 1/2 full. We ordered drinks and appetizers and our food at the same time. It took over 20 minutes for the appetizers and drinks to be served and our meal was not served until more than an hour after we placed our order. I would recommend Sqwires again based on the overall quality and a exceptional previous experience with the speed of service but would be really disappointed if the service was this slow again."
