"Our waitress (Grace) was attentive without being overly intrusive. The young men who helped her were very nice as well. For the most part we really enjoyed our meal. Wine was excellent and a decent value. Only complaint with food was that the chicken was ever so slightly overcooked. Lobster and risotto were excellent as was escargot (appetizer). My wife enjoyed quail and duck as appetizer and cohia (fish). She enjoyed all of it. Waitress recommended a lemon basil cheesecake and this was a real highlight. No LImoncello on hand however"

"We celebrated my nephew's birthday here with lovely dinner prior to seeing a show downtown. The food was simply divine, from all of the appetizers to the array of entrees. Each of us ordered something different, and all raved about their dishes. for appetizers, I highly recommend the duck and the foie gras. As for the entrees, I thoroughly enjoyed my bouilabaisse, which was rustic and flavorful and tasted like the French countryside on a warm afternoon. However, the star of the evening was the pistachio-crusted Chilean sea bass - stellar! Executive Chef Fox checked on us, which we appreciated, and the entire staff was gracious and very concious of our show time. We will definitely return to this wonderful restaurant."

"Three of us had dinner at Artisans, celebrating our daughter's birthday.
Once the chef found out about the reason for our dinner, it became a gastronomic wonder!
He prepared some off the menu dishes just for us, and everything was delicious.
He personally came out to visit with us. The service was excellent, and a very good time

"The food is incredible - taste wise - but watch out for the businessman's lunch special -- the portions on the entree are miniscule, we're talking tiny. I'm not one who wants huge portions but the meat and fish entrees were incredibly small. Also, our service was very slow -- repeatedly had to look for/ask for our waiter. The food is awesome tho and the ambiance is good as well."

"We loved every item of our meal and enjoyed sitting at the bar that overlooks the immaculate kitchen. The waiter was terrific and it was a pleasure from beginning to end. The portions were appropriate, and each dish was unique and creative. Here are some highlights: the foie gras and scallop appetizers were divine. My husband loved the Chillean seabass main course, and the napolean for dessert was unique and melted in our mouths.
We will be back soon!"

"My boyfriend and I went in with high expectations and they went above and beyond. Our server was fantastic and the owner was gracious.
As for the food, all I can say is that our taste-buds are craving Artisans right now. For appetizers we ordered seared scallops and the chef salad. For our entrees, the pistachio crusted sea bass and the lamb.
We were seated towards the entrance of the restaurant in a little booth table that had a romantic feel. However, in the middle of the restaurant is the kitchen and you can sit at the "chefs table" and see them cook. I would suggest reserving a spot there for the experience.

"The restaurant is hip and vibrant -- great concept -- sort of a theatre in the round where the diners can watch the food being prepared. The menu wasn't extensive, but each of the four of us had a different entree and each one was delicious. The noose level was such that you could carry on conversation and actually near each other. The wait staff was friendly and, for the most part, on top of their game. We will definitely go back and try to get seating around the kitchen area."

"Table was not ready for 40 minutes after booked time. Bar service was a shambles, eventually got seated, our waiter (Jessie) was excellent and saved the entire night to be honest! The wine list was distinctly lacking. Firsts - interesting lamb tartare, overpriced scallops served with very firm ravioli, good foie gras, and very small portion of quail and duck breast. Bread (good) arrived as some sort of after-thought. Mains - good NY Strip steak and Bouillabaisse, added lobster tail (arrived late!) was a waste of money. Chobia was not good, over-cooked. Deserts were pleasant. Coffee was poor, put off by the fact that they started to mop all around us as we were finishing.

"This was only my second visit to Artisans, but it is definitely at the top of my favorites list. With so many choices in Houston, this is definitely a place to come for good and contemporary French comfort food. Chef Jacques is usually present in the open kitchen and he is truly a wizard there. For a twist on an old favorite, try the short ribs over purple sweet potatoes and spicy Brussel sprouts. The fish dishes are also all excellent! The newest dessert, chocolate Napolean was amazing and light. If you hit them at the right time there will be French bistro music playing in the background."

"Easy to find restaurant. Had to use valet parking. Had to book in advance and seems to fill up rather quickly. A lot of seating at the bar - but has little elbow room and there are tables right behind you - seems more conducive to lunch, than dinner dinning. Lots of open tables in the main area, but we got seated in a private dinning room - that turned out more to suit us more. The menu read is very delicious sounding, and plates looked beautiful when served. The food was a bit salty and too greasy for my husband, meaning loads of butter. The fish was done to perfection - but my preference would have been a lot less butter and salt, to taste the fish and meal flavors.

"Food was ok albeit very pricy and presented in a way that was a bit fussy. Lamb tartare was delish and the best thing I had. Bouillabaisse was extremely salty. Apricot tart filling was really good but the accompanying pistachio ice cream was dry and crumbly. Husband ordered carrot curry soup (yum!) and braised beef (ok). In my opinion, there are so many more delicious and exciting restaurant options in Houston, especially at that price range. Sinatra radio channel was playing too loudly for a restaurant. The music was changed abruptly multiple times to country to rock to finally a random French Canadian channel. Not French. French Canadian. As a French Canadian myself, I thought it was ridiculous and out of place. I will not be going back."

"Had a girl's night that totally exceeded all expectations! Chef Jacques was a wonderful host, checking in frequently and tending to all of our requests. Fois gras was spectacular, scallops divine. However, the real "stars" were the seabass and the bouillabaisse! We were nearly licking our plates. The desserts (we had 3), were all great. The standout was the polenta with orange and ice cream. What a knock-out!! We will be back."

"Artisans has become one of Houston's premier French restaurants. Excellent food, quality service and a very nice ambience. Wine list needs to be expanded to included more high quality boutique wines and get away from production wineries. My only complaint is the same one I have will almost ALL restaurants....PROVIDE RAW SUGAR CUBES (or ANY sugar cubes) for your EXPRESSO AND COFFEE!!!"

"About a year old but they have quickly ramped-up to deliver quality food and service all within a perfect showcase. The chef's table of 50 seats or so in a semi-circle around the kitchen is alone worthy of a visit. They tend to drive visitors toward pre-fixed multi course meals but that is ok especially if you are not well versed in French cuisine. Downside is that restaurant can quickly become pricey. I would return but would select for those very special occasions. And not a stuffy place...it is fun."

"This is a real treat, a rare place to find, a genuinely wonderful, down home, great place to eat. The menu is distinct and the food wonderfully prepared. There are numerous items on the menu that can be ordered 'tapas style' and shared with one or two people and you end up with a wonderful, delightful meal. It can be a balanced healthful delight. The service is excellent, not too heavy and not to the point of ignoring you either.
I think this is a real gem of a place in Hoston. Closer to downtown hotels but in its also special nook!
I highly recommend it to business travelers, families looking fort a special evening out, or for a romantic dinner for two.
The cocktail anad wine list is also special and extensive."

"I have been there several times and it has always been stellar. Monday lunch was an off day apparently. I got the Artisans salad which is usually outstanding. Some of the greens were old and brown and overall it was tasteless. The only thing good about it was the carmelized bacon. It seemed like the lettuce was left over from the weekend. Also I ordered cappucino but there was no milk left. Just seemed overall as if they weren't really ready to serve customers on Monday. Normally it is a great place."

"This was not my first visit to Artisan. This time I took a family group for lunch on Good Friday. The place was empty, which I might otherwise have not been too happy about, but it worked very well for this occasion. We had great and very attentive (but not cloying) service, great food, and it was quiet enough for all of us to get caught up with one another. Previously when I've been there for lunch, it's been usually during the week for lunch, and the food and service have been very good, and there was more interesting people watching. Another thing I appreciated on my most recent visit was that there was no grumbling or attitude on the part of the staff due to the lack of patrons, the ambiance remained very welcoming."

"We loved everything about Artisans Restaurant from the moment we walked inside. It is a beautiful restaurant with excellent service. We all ordered different entrees and thought each one was delicious. The ambience was peaceful and romantic. We would definitely return to this restaurant and recommend it to anyone looking for delicious food, excellent service and a lovely lunch or dinner."
