Gyu-Kaku Japanese BBQ restaurant in Midtown is all about fun and food. You are your own chef, cooking tasty morsels perfectly to your liking, right there at your table. It is an ideal way to share a meal with family and friends.
Gyu-Kaku Midtown has a variety of original sauces which it uses as marinades and provides for basting of its select meats, poultry, seafood and vegetables. We are the one of the only restaurant in the city that serves Japanese "Wagyu" top-graded premium beef, as well as US Kobe beef.
With your meal, we have selections of Wine, Sake, Shochu and original cocktails you can pair.
"I love Gyu-Kaku for its happy hour deals and food. But I mourn the loss of bone-in galbi as none of the other meats (including another "galbi") taste the same. The kimchi bibimbap is also not good--it's more egg and rice than kimchi, and is largely tasteless and colorless (you know it's tasteless if kimchi bibimbap isn't even red). But willing to give the restaurant one more shot b/c it's always been so good."

"Where do I begin? WE LOVE THIS PLACE!! From our romantic date nights to our fun family nights we always have a good time and the food is never a disappointment. We frequent this place at least once a month or every other month because not only are the waitresses great but the fact that they remember us is even better. From the friendly wait staff to the promptness in seating I would have to say this is a stellar place. The food can get pricey but as others have mentioned you can always go during happy hour. :-)"

"We went during Happy Hour, and found the food was a good deal for the price and quantity. The Tofu Salad was good, as was the shrimp dumpling. The BBQ meats are small in quantity. Service was great."

"Gyu-Kaku is always fun and always good. We took our grandchildren there (ages 6 and 8) and it was perfect for them. Cooking your own food is always a good idea. And the choices are vast and the quality of the food is excelent."

"Waiters were nice and very understanding when told that I was not ready to order since my husband was still out circling around the blocks trying to find a parking spot on a Saturday 3pm.You are not stuck with only one waiter / any waiters are stopping by and ready to help out.Nice window seats with city view."

"Have been here a few times, always a fun interactive eating experience for groups and couples in a nice environment. Food is easy to cook on the table bbq and always tasty, a must is finisihing off the meal melting marshmallows for the s'mores. Only slight issue was drinks orders were pretty slow on this visit which is unusal from past experience. All in a great night."

"First of all the service was amazing the staff checked on us to see if everything was okay, And It was because even the manager came! I've been here many times about 50 and I still get the same great service. Now about the food,They have a great variety of food it is very hard to choose what to eat. Everything is so fresh and good from salads to noodles and to fresh meats. The atmosphere is very exotic and you really feel like you are in Japan eating the worlds greatest food. The noise was okay because you don't really hear it when you are eating the best food. The popularity of this restraunt is crazy especially on a Friday night when it is totally packed. When you plan to go to this restraunt Make a reservation if not it is a 1 hour wait."

"This Gyukaku Midtown is cheaper than the one in St. Mark's, but not by that much. It has more vibrant than the more in St. Mark's. The lunch special menu is different than the one in St. Mark's but it is some of the items on the menu is different like in St. Mark's they have the bento n=bowes, while in Midtown they have the noodle & rice dishes."

"Food great, service confused. Had to ask for incidentals multiple times (rice, soy sauce, beer, check), multiple waiters come bye, not sure who to deal with. As a result the service was slow, and really, since you're doing the cooking, their jon isn't that hard. You bring a plate of sliced raw meet. Their "chefs" just cut up raw meat, how hard is that?"

"I was at Gyu-Kaku for a casual business lunch. It was a little noisy, but not so much that we couldn't hear each other. The food was tasty and the wait staff friendly and attentive. Overall a good experience."

"Great experience. You cook the beef yourself! The Bistro Harami is by far the best. It's a well marinated dish with cuts of beef that you cook yourself. I've been probably 20 times. Great value, and it's one of my favorite neighborhood restaurants."

"A real shame because there are a few good items on the menu but overall the service at the bar and in the restaurant is not hospitable in any way. Someone should wash the windows as they are stained with drips and it is extremely unappetizing. The place didn't fulfill it's potential. I just can't go back. Unfriendly and unkind with lots of attitude from the hostesses all the way up through to management."

"I like their happy hour menu here. There is a lot of varieties to choose from, and it's a good deal. Their food is good, and seems fresh. The BBQ items are a bit paltry in quality, but is more worth it during happy hour."

"It was very tasty and the service was pretty good. However, we waited a bit too long for the meat to come. We finished drinking the beer and almost finished the appetizer and finally the meat arrived. We were hoping to eat the meat while drinking beer."

"For a Japanese restaurants, they had very poor Sashimi and Sushi choices outside of the hibachi meats. It was a little too trendy and not very focus on the food."

"Everything was amazing other than refilling water. I was there with my dad, mom and grandma celebrating my mom's birthday. My mom and I had cold water and my dad and grandma had tea. Being that the cup was black, they 1. couldn't tell the difference and 2. never saw that it was empty. I had to ask for it to be refilled multiple times. Not a big hassle but it would be easier without having to do that."

"That was fun! The grill in the table was not smoky at all. The quality of the meats and shellfish were all very good. The food from the kitchen was also very good -- we ordered a second round of garlic noodles.
Our waitress, Cynthia, was always there to answer questions, change the grill, get more drinks -- a perfect escort for our group of 5 adults."
