"I have been here about four times now. The first time Margarita was our waitress and she did an amazing job servicing our table. This past time was the worst experience i've ever had at brunch. Came here with a medium sized group. We had to ask 3 people to get refills on our all you can drink drinks and the waiter kept bringing us the same drink without asking if we wanted to switch. The whole 1 1/2 hours were slow serviced and at the end before our time was up we were bought the bill. They told us they could not accept all of our debit and credit cards and that we should tip more to cover the credit card fees. When finished paying they told us another table had arrived and that we needed to leave even though the whole restaurant was empty."

"We had a fun time at Fonda which has good appetizers and well made cocktails. Overall the food and service were great. I found the prices a little high for Mexican food, but it was upscale. I would definitely go back when I am in the neighborhood."

"My only gripe is that even though we made a reservation we had to wait about 15 minutes to be seated. The food is good - not fantastic, but good. The cocktails are amazing!"

"Tucked away on Avenue B in the East Village, Fonda is a great find for this area. Restaurant has great decor and ambiance, we went on early on Friday night and had plenty of time to have a drink of the bar and still get a high top table in the front. We were not rushed, the service was great and the food & drinks were even better! Definitely want to go back here soon!"

"The East Village Fonda lacks the delightful backyard garden of its Brooklyn twin, but the food is the same gourmet Mexican fare. The appetizers are superb and while I enjoyed the delicious Yucatan shrimp, the green rice and black bean sauce that accompanied them lacked flavor and arrived lukewarm. My husband enjoyed the spareribs, which were a special that night."

"We read a review about Fonda in the Boston Globe the week we were visiting New York and decided to try the restaurant located on Ave B in the East Village. We weren't disappointed. Service was very attentive and prompt. We really enjoyed our Enchiladas Suizas and Chilies Rellenos. Everything had a very fresh, zesty taste. The brownies for dessert were the best. We would definitely return to Fonda again."

"I went there for dinner with my wife and 2 kids, waiter took the order, didn't have to wait long for the food, margaritas were very good, staff were very pleasing, food was delicious and we all had a great time, went there on a Sat. Night @ 7:00."

"Get the pork shoulder meal with the tortillas on the side. Awesome! I am Puerto Rican, so I know good pork and this was pulled pork mexican spices style. Very good. We also had the enchiladas with the black mole sauce. This was a lil sweet for me, not too sweet, but on the borderline of sweet, almost chocolaty or coffeeish in flavor. I didn't think it went well with the well portioned chicken inside but if that sounds like your thing, it was very well prepared."

"Everything we ate was delicious! Probably the best Mexican I've had in a long time. Even the rice was amazing. You know how Mexican rice is usually dry? Their rice was so moist and awesome. Highly recommend the Fonda Burger, guac and chicken enchiladas."

"Been three times. Excellently prepared, all tasty, not a scrap left on the plate of any of the seven of us. Regional cusines represented. Noise level in the back room where we sat made it impossible to here someone at the other end of our table. Service was disjointed, then again it was the day before Cinco de Mayo and the bar area was packed."

"Food seemed quite good; patrons less so - decibel level off the charts. Will try another time when it's not so close to Cinco de Mayo and not a Friday night. Overall rating would be better if I could have heard the conversation at the table."

"I came here with a friend and had a really nice time. We used a Blackboard Eats special here and received free margaritas and guacamole for the table as a result. We came at 8pm on a Friday and the restaurant was full and quite loud. We were still able to hear each other, but it was definitely a loud atmosphere. The guacamole was excellent and served with chips and warm tortillas. I ordered the grilled shrimp and my friend ordered the vegetarian enchiladas. My shrimp were seasonal well and came with spicey green rice and black beans and small salad. I enjoyed mine very much. My friend asked about the heat of the salsa and was told it was mild/medium. When it arrived it was very hot. Overall good and would come back."

"Thoroughly enjoyed my experience at Fonda. We arrived a bit early for our 7 pm reservation and were happy to get our delicious frozen margaritas at happy hour prices. Service was excellent. Quacamole appetizer was fantastic. Loved our entrees also. We will be back"

"The food and margaritas were delicious. I will say though, on date night, my fiance and I like to stay for a while and have a couple drinks, and I did feel somewhat rushed / judged by the waitress of the time frame we stayed. Which is odd, considering we'd have to pay for it all!"

"Food was very good. Margherita is an excellent server! The margaritas are excellent, made w/ fresh juices and fresh ingredients. It is a little on the expensive side for Mexican, but it's worth it."

"Had a BBE code for a free guac and margita per person - both were excellent! the portions are very small for the price, but quality was good. overall, was worth the price due to the coupon code. otherwise i would consider the food good but overpriced."

"We had a reservation for 9:30. We got there and the hostess told us our table would be ready in 15 minutes. I asked whether that was realistic because if not we would take a walk and come back. She said absolutely realistic. They sat us 45 minutes later. I get that they want people to hang out at the bar so they can make money off of alcohol sales. But really we just felt lied to and annoyed. The food was delicious, but I left with a pretty bad taste in my mouth."

"In a city that lacks decent Mexican or TexMex, Fonda is pretty good. The enchiladas were delicious, the tomatillos sauce was really great. I think the best part of the meal was the guacamole! Delicious. I wish they had more chips and salsa, though.
There was an extremely loud and obnoxious group in the corner bothering everyone and the management did not ask them to be more respectful. I would have stayed for another drink, were it not for their obnoxiousness."

"Food was excellent! Would definitely eat there again, however I would request to sit at a table in the back. My husband and I arrived for our reservation while happy hour was still goin on (until 8) and were seated at a table near the bar. It was crowded, and loud, and people standing all around near our table. For $100 meal, we would've preferred to feel like we were in a restaurant more than a bar, and the tables near the back would've provided that experience I think. Aside from that, the service was great, the pod was great, and so were the cocktails!"

"Music was playing too loud, even in the back. We had to ask them to turn it down - which they did. Otherwise we like this place a lot, the food is great. We normally get deliveries from them because the scene is a bit rowdy for our taste. But again, the food is always good. The tortilla soup is fantastic."

"This is my favorite neighborhood restaurant. Best for brunch or dinner, try the PASILLA sauce, the bloody mary at brunch and the pina margarita for dinner (all only if you like spicy). The waitstaff is very nice and the food is ALWAYS DELICIOUS. There are vegetarian options and the food is very clean and fresh. When someone from out of town visits I always take them to Fonda."

"Food was pretty good. Since it was our first visit, I don't know if the problems they were having with the dining room were unique or par for the course. Our 8:45pm reservation (which we were warned would not be honored if we were more than 15 minutes late) turned into a 45 minute wait at the bar."

"It was Froday night. Crowded. We had Ressie for 930 and were sat at 1000. Food was bland - everything needed salt. Both hostess and bartender were in a rush."

"Not very friendly from beginning to end...seemed more concerned about turning tables than providing any degree of hospitality (understanding this is East Village/Alphabet City). Since there are lots of choices in NYC....I would not go back or recommend."

"Fantastic Food and the Service was wonderful! We are from out of town and got lost finding our way from the subway and the hostess could not have been nicer to us when we arrived 30 minutes late for our reservation. We loved the food here and our server Margarita was terrific!"

"Every dish a winner! From the melted cheese/chorizo and the duck zarape appetizers, through the brisket, cod or shrimp entrees, right through the hot chocolate and chocolate pudding. Waiter suggested Riazul Anejo tequila which was fantastic."
