Since Rafael Palomino—Sonora’s Executive Chef and Proprietor—opened the doors to this, his flagship Latin-fusion restaurant, he has received accolades from a broad customer base, including an “Excellent” from the New York Times. This creative, Colombian-born (Queens-raised) chef and author of five cookbooks, has since opened 8 more restaurants that span three states (New York, Connecticut and Pennsylvania). Sonora, like Palomino’s other restaurants, boasts excellent service and mouth-watering dishes, paired with an extensive wine list and cocktail offerings. "Does everyone go to Sonora? It seems so justifiably so. Packed with all ages, all types with everyone having a great time, it has to be a “do not miss stop”. Of course the draw is the intensely flavored food, and cheerful wonderful service. You mustn’t’ pass it up."

"We went there for our anniversary. Got seated quickly. Service was very good. The drinks were excellent. Both appetizers were very good. My wife had squirt steak and I coffee rubbed had rib eye for dinner. Mine was good except it was more on the medium cooked side although I ordered medium rare. Otherwise, they were very good."

"Huge chunks of lobster; quinoa as "rice" in the veggie dish a nice touch.
Disappointing special ceviche appetizer, which was more liquid than shrimp. But yummy tasting. And these guys were so nice, they gave us a dessert to share! No idea why except that we were having a great time and really enjoying the food."

"My husband, kids and I dined at Sonora on Cinqo de Mayo to celebrate my husband's birthday.
We had several items from the tapas menu all of which were delectable. My husband and I had cocktails which were equally delicious. The service was great; the waiters and waitress were very attentive without being overwhelming. Sonora's a little pricey, but worth every penny. We would return in a heartbeat!"

"Started with guacamole (we asked for medium spice but needed more) and three different ceviche (two tasted the same) they were all good. Meals included pork, chicken and steak which were all perfectly cooked and tasty. Sides of sweet plantains and rice and beans (needed more seasoning). Dessert standard chocolate lava cake. Mojito's were tasty and the white sangria refreshing. The meal presentations were great and the service was professional. We will return."

"Had a 8pm reservation (resturant called to confirm) and arrived 5 min early. Waited almost 20 min for table as hostess apologized as resturant was overbooked. Service was attentive and food was very good. Ordered $40 bottle of wine and when bill came we were charged $125. Maitre'D apologized and adjusted bill. Overall a good experience."

"It was restaurant week and my birthday dinner with my wife and 3 close friends. We had drinks at the bar waiting for our reserved table. My mojito was very good. I saw our table was ready though no one came over to tell us. We approached the young hostess. She made us wait which was awkward. Then she asked if we had reservations which was out of line since we'd been greeted and shown to the bar. She gave us menus. When I asked, "where's the restaurant week menu,?" she pointed to items on the regular menu before I made her understand she hadn't given it to us. The special entree I wanted had been replaced. The food was nothing to remember. The acoustic guitarist somewhat made up for the shortcomings. I was expecting better."

"I took my family (6 people) to Sonora the first day Restaurant Week (Westchester). We had a great meal at Sonora. We had never been to Sonora before but the menu was enticing and offered many selections. When we first looked at the building, we kind of wondered if we had made a mistake. Once we walked in however, the entire atmosphere changed and the ambiance of the restaurant was noticeable.
It was nicely decorated and the restaurant although filled, was quiet and inviting. We sat in the first dining room (I think they have 3 different sections). The wait staff was excellent and very attentive to our party. It was as though we were the only guests in the room. We highly recommend all of the dishes and we are coming back."

"Went on a whim looking for a place near work with a good menu for a quiet dinner with a friend. The service was outstanding - the staff is very well mannered and appropriately attired. The bar is small, but adequately stocked and professionally tended. Crisp white tablecloths on all the tables. A mix of modern and classic latin pop music permeated the air without being too loud.
The food was outstanding - perfectly prepared, seasoned and presented - I was very impressed. And as delicious as it looked. Portions were appropriately sized, yet I still managed to take some of the main course home for afters. Wine menu was more extensive than expected, but not overly so.
I will certainly return!"

"I think I liked Sonora better a few years ago .. the menu then had more small plates so you could sample a variety of dishes. But still like the food (hard to find good dining that isn't Italian around here) adn service has always been good. Appricieate the wide variety of Gluten free choices."

"It was restaurent week so I ordered from that menu. The empanadas were excellent as well as the paella. The cheesecake was exceptional. My husband had the tapas from the regular menu - coconut shrimp and skirt steak on flatbread, both wonderful.
The drinks were good too.
Will be back again."

"Have been dining here since they opened and have never has a bad meal. Menu is constantly changing so there is always something new to try. My only complaint is that while dining here during Restaurant Week we were not offered the special Restaurant Week menu until we specifically asked for it. We observed the same thing happening at other tables as well."

"I decided to try this restaurant for Restaurant Week for the 1st time. I made an EXCELLENT choice!! I was very glad that I selected this place! the ambiance was very nice, we were the first ones there, the service was fantastic and we never really had to ask the waiters for anything as they were always around to ask "if we needed anything." I gave this place 5 stars just for the service alone. The food and drinks were great as well especially the skirt steak appetizers, the free range chicken dinner and seafood paella. I will definitely be coming here again!"

"We had a party of 8 in a corner table during Restaurant Week. We started with two pitchers of white sangria which was lovely. The appetizers were just the right size, tasty and creative. My paella was not warm enough and needed a kick but I shared a chicken dish with spinach mashed potatoes that was divine. The deserts were a rich, flourless cake that was gooey and good and delightfully fresh sorbets. The cheesecake was reported to be excellent. The staff was very helpful and attentive. It is a warm, friendly atmosphere and I cannot wait to share the experience with other friends."

"We went for Hudson Valley Restaurant week. The appetizers were great, mini lamb chops with chimichurri sauce and short rib empanadas. The pork tenderloin was excellent and the Rib Eye both very flavorful. The desserts of warm flourless chocolate cake and cheesecake were both great. We will return."

"This is a Spanish / Latin style restaurant with a Tapas menu and entrees. Those who had the tapas were very pleased. I had the filet and it was excellent. I recently had the vegetarian paella and my wife had the seafood paella they both were great. The wine list is well design with some unknow but great wines and the service was vey attentive. Prices were reasonable. We will definitely return."

"My husband and I chose to pay a return visit during Restaurant Week and found the choices, altho limited, to be excellent. From the terrific classic mojitos, the delectable beet salad and shrimp ceviche, the skirt steak, salmon and ending with the the luscious flourless chocolate cake, we were once again absolutely delighted with the experience. It was a slow Monday so there were a limited number of fellow diners, and the setting was serence and romantic. On weekends and a full house the noise level is naturally considerably higher. Sonora has been and will continue to be one of our top 3 go-to restaurants. (On other occasions instead of having an entree, we've ordered their delicious and imaginative tapas.)"

"Yes its sonora,right off the bat you would think "mexican food"... well its not, as the waiter explain it modern latin food,and by far the food its amazing...i wouold highly recomend the shrimp and sea scallops with a chipotle sauce and the guac to start. my wife had the salmon and she love it and so did I.we would defenely go back to try the restg of the food."
