When a family owned restaurant has been in business for almost 40 years, they must be doing something right. Recently expanded with a beautiful patio, the Blue Bonnet has become an institution in Denver. Handmade chips and salsa, chimi changas, award-winning margaritas, flautas, chile rellenos, pollo adovado, fish tacos, and carnitas are just a few items made from scratch along with many traditional favorites. Locals, tourists, and celebrities line up for some of the freshest and best tasting Mexican food in Denver. Casual atmosphere with friendly service. If you can't go South of the border... at least head South of Alameda.
"I have to commend their business savvy, a special menu designed to provide quick service and basic selection. The restaurant was very busy and they handled it quite well. That being said I wish I had asked for the regular menu as the selections on the special menu were just so so. However that will not stop me from being a repeat customer."

"Booked this for a casual business lunch since I knew the men coming would be in jeans. I arrived early and asked for a table in the covered patio and they accommodated us by the time all parties arrived. Waiter was attentive and fun. Food was plentiful and good. The fish salad was delicious and the enchiladas looked great. The entire group enjoyed the meal. Both owners stopped by to check on us and were visible in the restaurant the entire time. Would definitely go back for a casual Mexican meal."

"We had a great time as always at Blue Bonnet. It is a Denver staple. We went wit the whole family and my 1 year old fit in just fine running around the restaurant. The mango margaritas was awesome and the food was good as always."

"This is a fun place with great food. Inventive recipes which tantalize the taste buds - lots of fire! We liked the sampler size option, especially considering the spiciness of some of the choices. Overall a great experience."

"Our group included 22 individuals for an employee recognition luncheon and we were put in the Banquet Room in a secluded area. Because we were there by 11:15, our luncheon was well underway by the time the main luncheon crowd began to filter in. Our service was great and everybody enjoyed the luncheon in that atmosphere. I would certainly not hesitate to recommend the Blue Bonnet to others."

"Blue Bonnet is a serviceable Mexican restaurant. It's not great, it's not awful, just average Mexican food. Had a wonderful server who was the bright spot of our evening. Probably our own fault for going on the Saturday night before St Patrick's Day. We had a choice of sitting next to a group of 30 and a group of 20 or sitting next to the bar when the loudspeaker was blasting whenever a table opened up."

"We always enjoy the Bonnet because it's just good. Our server was effecient but not particularly fun or friendly. He actually was rude at times. If you can't converse with your guests and be a tad friendly, why take such a job?
The margaritas and our dinner were great. We were a party of 8 and were put in the large room on the far east of the building. The table was a large folding table...not particularly nice/fancy. That room feels like a makeshift area for overflow. We had a reservation so we definetely shouldn't be considered overflow. I'd suggest putting a little money into that room (which they obviously need and use) and upgrading the tables/decor."

"It was our first time dining there. Loved it! We will be back. Only complaint is that when we got there, they did not have a reservation for us. The staff was wonderful and got us right in."

"We held our annual staff lunch at Blue Bonnet. Several people had never been there. They enjoyed the food. Commented on how it was great to be able talk with each other. A great experience. I have been assured people will return on their own to the Blue Bonnet! That is a great recommendation!"

"The food was great! Best tortilla soup I've had! Parking is a but cramped, but if the food is good, that's a small price to pay. Should be GREAT in the summer!"

"It had been quite some time (maybe 10 years) since I'd been to Blue Bonnet, and I always remembered that they had pretty good food. This time around, I noticed they retooled the menu and added some really great options. The food was really fresh, well made and tasty as heck. The service was awesome. Waiter was super friendly and right on top of everything we needed. This was a great way for me and my family to celebrate my wife's birthday. Would definitely recommend!"

"While most of the time I think of a restaurant requiring a reservation as a little more upscale, the Blue Bonnet sure isn't that. The food was tasty and the waiter very good (he got a 25% tip), but don't go thinking you'll have a conversational dining experience. Lots of plain tables in a crowded room with a bar full of patrons a couple feet from my elbow and music a bit too loud brings down the rating. The Margs were good, but served in deceptively thick glasses not fitting of a $7.50 price tag for an El presendente upgraded version. The con queso fundito ( or some name like that) was a tasty appetizer."
