The newest restaurant from Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group, North End Grill is an exuberantly reimagined American bar and grill located in lower Manhattan’s thriving Battery Park City. North End Grill showcases a market-driven, seafood-centric menu that emphasizes a variety of grilling techniques, complimented by an inspiring wine and cocktail list, and a bar with over 100 scotches. The restaurant marks the exciting return of Chef Floyd Cardoz, following his win on season 3 of Bravo’s Top Chef Masters. "I went to New York for a special Mother's Day visit and had the best meal I could ever imagine. Their Bloody Mary's are made from scratch from San Marzano tomatoes. We all ordered different meals so we could share and their was not one disappointment only raves from the entire table. The service was impeccable and so pleasant. It is on the top of my list for NYC.

"Made a reservation here for Mothers Day, knowing they'd be slammed like most restaurants on the day and expecting a good-but-not-great experience as a result. Pleasantly surprised that, after a bit of a wait for menus, the service was friendly, not at all harried and very professional. Excellent cocktails- tamarind margaritas and a 'bilberry bitter' of vodka, blueberry juice and bitter lemon soda. Apps included a pleasantly spicy crab salad and exceptional scrambled eggs with ramps and mushrooms. Mains were halibut and soft-shell crabs, both surprisingly spiced (not hot but very flavorful). Don't miss the huge butterscotch pot de creme if it's on the dessert menu, but pass on espresso, which has an unpleasantly bitter lemony bite."

"We arrived a bit late but they bent over backwards to get us a table for Mother's Day and were attentive throughout the meal. Food was good. my soft shell crabs were excellent but the egg dishes didn't garner as much approval fron the other guests. I've always had excellent meals there, perhaps it was the volume of crowds that made not give it 5 stars this time. Enjoyable it was though, and I'm definitely going back to this little gem."

"After reading Danny Meyer's book "Setting the Table", I was very anxious to dine at one of his establishments and the North End Grill was the first. The expert service that was touted in the book and has come to be expected at any of Danny Meyer's entities was certainly not part of my experience. The North End Grill has a very cool vibe and has all the right people and plenty of energy. Unfortunately the food was hit and miss and the service was average at best. There were moments of brilliance in some of the menu items while others feel completely flat in their execution and flavors, the butterscotch pot de creme was slightly thicker than heavy cream straight out of the bottle. Still my biggest disappointment was the average service."

"We did not have a great experience here. The atmosphere is lovely and the menu is great..but the service and timing of food was very poor. We waited over 30 minutes between our starter and main dish. The quality of the food was great..but for a business lunch crowd they need to work on service and timing."

"I've had half a dozen meals happily at North End Grill since it opened. But prices are up, and though dinner there is as good as it has always been, it's no better for the increased cost. The tab, for me, is now higher than the experience warrants, and I won't return in a hurry."

"The former brilliance behind Tabla has brought his unique sense of flavors and textures to this lovely spot way downtown amidst the glittering new construction on the edge of the Hudson. This time it's a reinvention of American fare for the most part, but his signature style flavors every dish. Must try the pea shoot salad, which they will cut the shoots for when you order. "The first time we went it was so good that we couldn't wait to go back. A month or so later, on a Sun night, it was somewhat disappointing. It just seemed that the seasoning was all off that night. The staek tartare had no flavor, the skate had too much, the same with the other meals at the table. So I hope the consistency comes back because the place is so nice"

"North End is a welcome addition to the neighborhood and we have been there on no less than 20 times since it opened. This was only our second dinner (the first one didn't leave much of a desire to return). Unfortunately, this trip was even worse. While we'll certainly be back for everything else that North End does right - brunch, the cocktails/bar and bar food, we will not return for dinner. Three items completely lacked flavor & complexity, two were completely undercooked, and one dish (the halibut) was so doused in spices that it tasted like a straight up habenero. Even the most fearless curry fan would have passed on it. Everything else is wonderful at North End grill, but the dinner menu REALLY needs help."

"I had very high expectations for the North End Grill, but left very disappointed. Though the service was good, it did not make up for the mediocre food and intolerable noise level. It never ceases to amaze me how new-age parents think its completely acceptable to bring screaming infants out to dinner (as they obliviously sipped martinis). In the late evening, you would think this would be an adult restaurant not Chuck E Cheeses. Invest in a baby sitter! I will never return."

"A new favorite for me in NYC. I liked Floyd Cardoz when I saw him on Top Chef and I thought his food and flavors looked interesting. That's what you can expect to get at North End Grill. I ended up having a 3 course brunch because the menu was full of great choices. I love his version of shrimp and grits. It may look refined but it certainly was not lacking in flavor. Service was excellent and despite it being busy, the ambiance was still very relaxed and unhurried. Great way to start a weekend."

"Very interesting food in a modern atmosphere. Across from the Irish famine monument that, although a tibute to a sad event, is a really cool and transporting spot to visit on the way in. Had a salad that was sanguine. Fish over a lentals with pomegranite seed broth was inspired. Comfortable, energetic buzz during lunch. Service was efficient and unobtrusive. Had a very creative spin on chocolate cake for desert with small dollops of ice cream and mounds of flakes chocolate. Went with a serious foodie. We were both impressed. "This place takes Wall Street back to the halcyon pre-2008 days of free-spending diners. The place bubbles over with enthusiasm, and for good reason: the food is excellent, the wait staff is professional and accommodating, and the wine list is varied and well-chosen, at all price levels. "The design of the restaurant is very chic and modern. For those who like to watch the action in the kitchen, its right there for all to see, The food is simple yet still interesting and very flavourful. The food is definitely the highlight. For example my husband had the whole sea bass. It was simple and unadorned and perfectly done! The wine list is extensive and very reasonable. The service is attentive and friendly. No pretensions or attitude at all. Overall it was a great meal and evening."

"I found the food a bit puzzling. I ordered the dish with Coddled Egg with Crab and Bacon. I was not a fan of the consistency. It was very liquid-y and it made it very difficult to distinguish any of the ingredients' flavors beyond the smokiness of the bacon. I didn't care for the flavor. I also ordered the sashimi appetizer which I thought was fine.
Strangely, the best thing I ate was a small scoop of coconut-thai basil ice cream that accompanied my key lime cheesecake.
The service was good and I liked the decor. However, the food would prevent me from coming back. I should note that my colleague did like the Buccatini with the pulled pork."

"I organized several people for a farewell lunch for a colleague on Good Friday, and none of the other three had been to the restaurant. All were very impressed with the quality and preparation of the food, the ambiance and the service, so not only did they (and particularly our departing friend) enjoy themselves, but I was happy with the result.

"It was our third time here, and we very much appreciated how the restaurant has settled in. The food was not only excellent but very interesting, the wine good, the service very attentive, and we really like the decor of the restaurant. The ambiance was nice even though there were relatively few people there, because we were early. We passed by again after the movie, and the place was hopping."

"I appreciate that the servers ask during lunch if it is a rushed lunch or not but even if it isn't the service should not be as slow as it is. getting bread delivered was difficult and my main dish was lukewarm."

"I find innovative, interesting dishes and cocktails each time I go to North End Grill. This time, it was the Passover menu, a holdover from Chef Cardoz's "Unleavened Bread Bar" and communal Seder, which was held at Tabla for five years. The Goan-spiced brisket tops my own and my mom's, and that's high praise for sure.
You just can't go wrong with a meal here!"

"My husband and I were in NYC for the 1/2 marathon and wanted a nice dinner downtown the night before. What a fabulous experience! From impeccable service to unique menu options, everything was wonderful. Loved that there was an "egg" course, which we hadn't seen before. My husband ordered sardines (not my thing, but he said they were "melt in your mouth" good), coddled eggs, lobster and grits (interesting flavor/texture) and skate. I had 5 grain salad (citrusy - yum!) and halibut (nicely done but a bit salty). Caramel pot de creme completed the night. Oh, and try the Mother's Milk beer - Amazing!"

"We were a party of 6 with mixed success with out menu choices. Most of the food was excellent but 3 of us had a tuna entree which was supposed to be prepared medium rare and it was, instead, VERY well done which made it dry and virtually tastless. We did not return it because it was a business group and the rest of the table had their entrees and were already eating. We did mention it to the waiter who apologized profusely but that was it! I definitely felt something more should have been done as it was a major part of the meal for 3 people and costing in the low $30's a rather expensive miss. This pretty major mis-preparation did put a damper on the evenings experience and, yes, I did write to the restaurant but received no reply."
