"We've eaten there before & enjoyed the food (& service); but Tuesday night we could barely hear each other across a small table, & moved once for less overbearing acoustics (which later deteriorated as well). Find out when they're not so jammed & dine there then!"

"We were late for our reservation due to a time mix-up within our group of 3, plus a baby. The hostess and manager were very cool about it and still seated us with the understanding that our time was more limited since we were late and another group would need our table in an hour. We were very appreciative and I loved their flexibility and honesty.
The Guac was perfect and the "Divorced Eggs" were delicious. Also, all brunch entrees come with a mimosa, which is always a plus.
The space is small and felt cramped. It seemed like there were several bus boys and food runners, but not enough waiters. Maybe they were short staffed on this particular day, but it led to the experience being more chaotic. Maybe better for an intimate dinner?"

"Fonda is my favorite Mexican restaurant, but it's not your average tacos and burritos spot. The food is more upscale without being "out there" or expensive. Guacamole is excellent. I frequently order their delicious Pork Adobado, but this time I went with a dish of grilled shrimp - yum. They usually have good specials too, and several tasty seafood dishes.
They have a nice choice of margaritas (I usually have the Rosalinda with hibiscus) and they're only $800 or $9.00 - a bargain for Park Slope!
On the down side you usually have a long wait for a table, and it's really noisy and packed inside. The back garden is great, and the service is always friendly."

"I love Fonda. The food was fresh, yummy and the drinks were good. Only two things: our appetizers came out close to the time of the main entrée and the rice and beans portions were small especially since two of us had ordered and they combined it. One more thing...the reservationist was rude on the phone when I booked and when I came in."

"Sadly the quality of food has gone down while the service remains top notch. Rice is undercooked and chewy, tortillas are dry and hard on edges. Shame as this use to be a major strength. Also it is very loud, even at 2:30 in the afternoon. Looking forward to the summer when they open the back patio to give this place one more chance."

"If you're going for happy hour, you have to sit at the bar. Which was unfortunate, because I wanted happy hour and they won't allow it at a table. That was a bit of an upset and kind of obnoxious, but the food was absolutely fantastic, as was the atmosphere."

"Brilliant, high cuisine Mexican food (and this from a Californian who turns his nose up at the largely feeble NYC attempts at the genre). Fresh, truly excellent, and with distinctly modern touch. This is not your mom's gloppy frijoles place! Only downside is that the place is rock concert loud.
Notwithstanding the generally spicy and "new Mexican" take, there seemed to be a lot of happy kids at our relatively early dining time."

"Food is very good, service is quick. Place is small so we felt a bit like they were trying to rush us out after we ate...but that is understandable as they are busy and successful. Drinks were a bit small and too sweet...mojitos should NOT be served in a rock glass! This was our second visit and we would go again!!"

"We had such a great dinner at Fonda! The drinks were delicious, everything we had from the cheese melted with chorizo to the enchiladas, and then moving on the the Mexican hot chocolate and budin de banana was outstanding! The service was top notch with a very friendly staff. We will be coming back often!"

"The food at Fonda was amazing. Modern Mexican with a lot of flavor and subtlety. Filling without being heavy. We had a reservation and still had to wait 10-15 minutes, although the people coming in behind us were getting estimates of 1.5 - 2 hours. (Friday night, 8:30pm.) I would definitely recommend making a reservation. Service was good too. Waiters and busboys were efficient and unobtrusive. Prices make it not for everyday, but I would certainly go again."

"The food was delicious.. I enjoyed it very much. My only issue was space. It was very tight and crowded. Overall it was a very good experience, I would definitely go back."

"After about 45 minutes, it was so clear that the waiter needed our table that I asked him whether he needed the table and he said he did. The restaurant was half empty but there was a group of 6 waiting and he wanted to push our table together with another to make seating for six. If he had just asked whether we would mind moving to another table, I would have happily agreed. But, by the time we realized what was happening, he had rushed us through our main courses and delivered our check with dessert."

"Hands down the best Mexican restaurant (including its sister restaurant in the East Village) in NYC and that pretty much means anywhere in the US. I can't believe I didn't discover it earlier. And for that matter - this is one of the best restaurant in NYC and I have been to a lot of the great ones. The food is simply delicious. I understand that the owner-chef is the former Executive Chef from Rosa Mexicano years back before it became rather terrible average as it chained out. The menu is quite similar to Rosa Mexicano's circa 2002...but even far better in terms of taste. I cannot recommend any restaurant to a higher degree...(its loud and busy however). The mole is insane smokey yummy and delicious. yay!"

"My Californian friend said it was the best Mexican that he's had in NYC so far, a real compliment from someone who knows! I've lived in the area for three years and Fonda is now my number one pick!"
