"Maplewood fills an often overlooked niche, catering families and older clientele. It's crafty cozy decor and lower than average noise level make it a comfortable neighborhood hangout. The gang at the piano bar seemed to be having an enjoyable evening. The food was good, though missed the mark on execution. For example, the horseradish crusted steak really wasn't crusted. It was still good though."

"Nice neighborhood place, but I wanted to like it more than I did. The dishes felt like they came another era: heavy, overly complex sauces, and in some cases--calamari fried to a burnt, dark-brown color--not well-executed. (Table next to us ordered medium-rare steak but got it well-done instead.) The shrimp poppers, however, lived up to their star billing. Wine list had some decent, fairly-priced offerings by the glass that thankfully went beyond the usual Chard/Cab/Merlots. Despite our experience, I have to point out that the place was very busy on this Mother's Day Sunday, so it does have a following. With some updating of the menu, and a bit more care in the kitchen, this could qualify as a neighborhood gem."

"This is 'our place' when in the area. My wife and I came for Mother's Day (actually, the Saturday night before) and were, once again, very surprised at the quality of the food and service. Its location in a strip mall with and Elevation Burger and a grocery store isn't walker-friendly, and parking can be somewhat squished, but once inside the creators of this establishment clearly understand the difference between a 'restaurant' and a 'dining experience' - falling heavily on the experience side. Great wines from Spain to Australia. A specials menu that is truly special - i.e. off the bone lamb shanks with local baby carrots, native mango-guava mousse cake with one of the best espressos on the continent (and I am picky!), overall an A+."

"At the last minute, we needed a special place for 5 for lunch--we got closed out of a few notable spots, and Maplewood Grill had a spot for us! The service was very attentive without being TOO much and the restaurant was very nice and comfortable for a larger group while maintaining a cosy feel. It had a nice bar area but since it was lunch, it was not busy. The food was really good...I had the crab and corn soup and a Goat Cheese salad. both really good. The group was very happy and we stayed for 3 hours!"

"I went here two weeks in a row. My first visit, I went with my whole family, including two young children. I thought the food was outstanding!! The salads were amazing, the mahi mahi cooked perfectly, with a delicious sauce on top. Every single bite I put in my mouth that night was delicious. I couldn't believe I found such a great place in my neighborhood, and I couldn't wait to go back. Even my kids loved the place, with a nice children's menu. The second time I went back, wasn't quite as perfect as the first, perhaps because my expectations were so high. Once again, the salads were amazing...the warm goat cheese salad, is oh my gosh, worth the trip alone. My main course was good this night, but not as amazing as the week prior."

"Little has changed since Le Canard became Maplewood Grill. Ownership changed hands from father to son, but the place has the same look and feel. They still have the piano bar. They still serve some excellent selections at reasonable prices. The customer base appears more dressed-down. I saw few sport jackets.

"We made a reservation for Valentine's Day. We're two men together for over 20 years. While we don't expect roses where we go, it's good business sense for the owner of an establishment sitting at the hostess desk to receive customers a little more warmly - "hello and welcome" is a enough - especially when we've purchased a prix fixe dinner for two for $140.
The salad and soup was interesting and gave us hope. The main course was a confused concoction of "surf and turf." Mystery crab and reasonably good beef, though spoiled by a heavy sauce. Chocolate cake to finish helped redeem the meal.
Oddly, we passed on the included champagne only to be charged for soda water. Petty. The server tried hard and was sweet, but the busers were bad."

"This was our second time at Maplewood Grill. Food was very good and the specials were a good variety......something for everyone. Unlike the first time we were there, it was quite noisy since there was a large group that seemed to be having a great time. Overall, a great experience!"

"We took advantage of Restaurant Week to visit for the first time. Our appetizers and desserts were outstanding, with creative and careful presentations. Our entrees were uninspired and quite disappointing. When this restarent used to be the Le Canard, you could be assured of getting high quality French food, consistent with the pricing. It was a place we frequented for special occasions. The Maplewood Grill features eclectic American choices--spotty in quality and overpriced, we thought. Perhaps the entertainment in the bar area justifies the prices."

"I have often dined at Maplewood Grill and each occasion has been enjoyable in terms of food quality, ambiance and service. This occasion was a birthday lunch for my elderly mother. The staff were considerate and helpful as to her walker, attentive in service and quietly arranged with me a candle in their wonderful gluten-free Chocolate Mousse cake. Re the cake, let me mention that I did not get it because it was gluten-free, but because it is delicious--pure tasty chocolate with a side garnish of good whipped cream, berries and raspberry sauce. They made the occasion so special."

"I was pleasantly surprised. It has a hole in the wall look, but once you step in you are just a part of the neighborhood. I couldn't believe how much food I got for the cost. I look forward to going back soon!!"

"We enjoy Maplewood Grill about 3-4 times/yr. The food is consistently good as is the service (generally). During our last visit, however, the server was a little less attentive to our table than we are used to at this restaurant. We kept having to ask the bus person to locate our waitress to get her attention. Although she was prompt after being requested, we generally find the wait staff here to be more available and provide service directly without having to request it.
We will give it another try and hope that this was a one-off experience."

"Why is it when two women come into a restaurant they seat you in a corner at the smallest table there? Very irritating when many open tables were there.
And they place a plant that droops into your face because your sitting in a corner.
Food is always good but this treatment irks me."
