Taverna 750
Taverna 750 is the best of old school Italian with a contemporary flair. Paul D. Cannella's was inspired by Grandfather Paul J. Loverde's and Uncle Chuckie Abruzzini's classic Italian recipes from their restaurant on Grand Avenue from the 40's to the 60's. All of the entrees will be small plates, meant for sharing at the table. Most are less than $10 and the martinis include a sidecar. Bottom line is that Taverna is an extremely great value.

"If you're looking for a fun, boozy brunch, this place is perfect. I was really impressed with the great brunch special that includes 2 courses, mimosas and martinis. The drinks were strong and delicious and the food was delicious and beautifully presented. Service was friendly and awesome although a bit slow (which was perfect because we wanted to relax and enjoy, but I might not go here if I was in a rush). I would definitely recommend it for brunch! I haven't yet tried it for dinner but I hope to."

"I've heard about this place from a few friends and finally tried it. The cocktails with sidecars were fabulous. The service was awesome. We were catching up with a friend and never felt intruded or rushed through dinner. The orchiette (sp) was delicious and we ordered two. The Sweet Potato Bread Pudding was a knockout- not too sweet and very flavorful."

"OK, talk about one heck of a deal! For $25 you get two courses, two martinis, AND bottomless Mimosas?! I took my mom here for Mothers Day and we had a blast. Everyone is super friendly, the drinks are great and it was just a fun time. I haven't been for dinner, but I will definitely be back for brunch without a doubt."

"We sat forever to be told they were already out of a few items on a limited menu, after ordering told again one of those items was now out. Salad was literally a few scattereds of arugula and then we didn't see another plate for almost 25 minutes. When the food came it was bland and was always just off. When asked by the waiter how was everything, the waiter was shocked when we said "only ok". No apology, no question what about what we didn't enjoy or what coulf have been mproved, the waiter only remarked "that's it". The restaurant is resting on image."

"This restaurant was fantastic. I made a reservation for my boyfriend's birthday and they were more than helpful making sure everything went perfectly. I was able to give them a cake to hide and then bring it out at the end of the meal to surprise my guy. They were more than happy to take it. Absolutely no problems. The staff was very nice and recommending what food they thought was perfect for that evening's dinner."

"We returned to Taverna 750 for post-theatre light meal. The special chicken wing picatta was a great concept and delicious execution! The BBQ chicken flatbread was a bit too cheesy. The Tuna Confit was quite good and beautifully plated. Our server was great as usual. The tequila cocktail was generous and tasty. The by-the-glass wine selection was overpriced for the quality of the claret. Overall, it's a great place in the 'hood - highly recommended! PS - Too bad the owners are stingy and don't give Open Table points on Friday night reservations."

"This is quite a nice little place. The food we had was pretty good-- beef short ribs with a lovely polenta and an onion gravy, and a pear and pancetta mini pizza, both of which were garnished with arugula for a nice, fresh touch. But what really stood out were the cocktails-- I had the Sibling Rivalry, which was truly excellent, and had a tequila base, which is kind of uncommon for artful cocktails. My fiance had the '50s Fashion, a take on an old fashioned, which he enjoyed. And with every cocktail, you get a sidecar that basically amounts to a second serving-- not a bad deal. We finished up with the brown butter cake, which was similar to a refined strawberry shortcake."

"We went to celebrate my husband's birthday and had a fabulous evening. The staff was super friendly - everyone wished him a happy birthday - and helpful. Our waiter, Chris, made great drink and food recommendations. We had the pesto/goat cheese bruschetta, tuscan mac & cheese, mushroom risotto and scallops. The only one that wasn't totally amazing was the scallops, and since Chris had suggested that one he comped dessert for us when we said we didn't really love it. I'm so glad we live in the neighborhood - we will definitely be back soon!"

"Taverna is a gem in Lakeview. There aren't many fine dining options and this is a great one. It's not "first date" material because it's pretty loud and cramped. But otherwise, I highly recommend it. The braised short ribs were amazing!"

"This was our second time at Taverna 750 and we were as happy with our experience this time as the first. The service is a stand out and the food is great. If I really wanted to nit pick, I would want the plates to be smaller-not the portions, the plates themselves! We wanted to have ask our shared plates on the table at the same time but the plates were so big, things got cramped. Nonetheless, we love having Taverna in the neighborhood."

"A group of 8 of us went there for brunch on Sunday. This is a relatively small place so be patient waiting for a table even if you have a reservation. The good news is, they keep you filled with mimosas. The food was simply spectacular. Every morsel of food that came to our table was exceptional. The cocktails and martinis were equally as impressive and creative.
Service was a bit spotty but friendly. On a busy Sunday morning we had to wait a while for our reservation but they were gracious about the wait. Frankly, the outstanding food made up for any small lapses in service."

"This is my second visit to Taverna 750. The food and atmosphere brought me back a second time. Living in the neighborhood, this place stands out for the quality of food, variety, and the overall vibe of the place. This visit was less satisfying than the first. It took close to 20 minutes for our server to approach the table. We were thirsty and a simple filling of water glasses would have been welcomed. We almost left when our waiter wandered over. This was surprising given the fact we were one of the first 4-5 tables filled in the entire restaurant and their full staff appeared to be wandering near the bar. Nonetheless, once he appeared, he was very friendly and helpful. The food was delicious - nice portion sizes to share."

"I absolutely love this restaurant. The small plates are perfect for sharing, the staff are attentive and brilliant at making recommendations, and the ambiance somehow manages to be urban and unpretentious at the same time. "We had the roasted califlower pasta dish, the papardalle with lamb sausage, and the pizza with pear and pancetta on it. Everything was delicious but my favorite was the roasted cauliflower pasta. It was so flavorful, and not too heavy. The pizza was also great! A sweet and savory combination.
For drinks, I had the Pera and the Papal States. Pera was definitely my favorite. It was refreshing, not sweet."

"Definitely the table to have Sunday brunches - make a reservation in advance else you will be waiting an hour or more and not guaranteed a table. Creative martini & champagne combination options with your 2-course menu makes this an innovative (and FUN) brunch option and the crowds are a testament. If you want Grade A+++ service, ask for no other server than Mika - she is probably one of the most gracious, elegant, engaging, beautiful, and talented servers in all the restaurants I have been to around the U.S. and traveling abroad. The core of a Sunday brunch is to have fun and relax and enjoy good food & libations, and she is the trusted guardian on that front. Kudos to Mika and to Taverna 750 for having her on your side."

"Overall a very good experience. My girlfriend is not a big foodie unlike myself and this place was excellent for introducing her to awesome cuisine. The waiter was very knowledgeable about the menu and helpful. Food was good, but I felt the shallots may have been a tad under-cooked? I'm not sure since I rarely eat them, but they seemed to weigh heavily on my stomach.
The noise level started off nicely, but as people were drinking more and more the volume of the restaurant got a bit too loud for my tastes, though it was still a good experience. The groupon was great value as well."
