"I love this restaurant, its fresh food, delightful menu options and ambience. However, our waitress was awful. She had no patience, no sense of humor. She seemed to be put out that she had to wait on a group - though we were only 6 adults and a child, so perfectly manageable. She was impatient while taking our order, never checked on us or our meals, and then was present as we left only to accuse us of not signing all our credit card card slips. We had, of course. There were simply two tucked together in one Axe postcard. It's too bad that her attitude makes me not want to go back or recommend to friends. Vet your staff and make sure they're actually okay with waiting tables instead of wanting to be somewhere else."

"I've been there for lunch and really enjoyed the bowl I got. I went for dinner order the chicken couscous, which the waitress said was one of her favorites...it tasted like something they would have eaten in the 1800s...slop like, with NO taste at all. They gave me this sauce to season it with, it was disgusting. After asking if I could try something else, I was told that you can't exchange food there, but that they would grill veggies and potatoes to me to add to the slop.You can't send food back? What kind of customer service is that!!!?? The veggies didn't help at all. We passed my plate around for the entire table to try since I couldn't send it back, everyone I was with agreed my food was simply disgusting. Really horrible experience."

"This was my second time at Axe and I was seriously disappointed. If a restaurant is going to charge what they charge for food (and I TOTALLY understand that the food is fresh, local, and organic which is why we went there), then please, make an effort to provide some customer service. The hostess was rude and our server was clueless to our needs. If you are eating at a place like Axe with such top quality ingredients and beautiful ambiance, you expect the service team to have pride in what they are serving or at least appear interested in their clientele. I would go again for lunch if I was hungry and in the area, but we will no longer be returned to Axe as a destination restaurant."

"I think we had bad luck with our waiter. For our table of 5, 3 of us were a few minutes early for our reservation, and 2 of us were a few minutes late. We were seated, but the waiter refused to get us an appetizer until everyone was there. We were starving by then, and letting us share a salad or two would not have changed the time we were at the table at all. Once the food really did start arriving, it was well worth the wait, but the waiter continued to be weird and inattentive."

"We were a party of nine celebrating a friend's birthday, and that included three kids between 6 and 11. Axe gave us a big table, helped us find off-menu things for the littlest ones to eat, and did everything they could to accommodate us. The birthday girl texted me the next day and said it was the best birthday she'd had in a long time. I've been going to Axe since it was on Ocean Avenue in Santa Monica, and the food has always been delicious without being precious, and the staff is excellent."

"Super delicious food, great ambiance, and awesome location on Abbot Kinney. Service was a little slow, and the server was not super accommodating of my friend who needed his dish dairy-free (shouldn't be that big of an ask for a farm-to-table restaurant). But otherwise, we had a great time and would certainly go back."

"This last experience at Axe was not pleasant. We have had enjoyed great meals in the past there, so this was new. I don't think this was an "off-night"; but rather a greater issue with poor morale which would seem to be a trickle-down effect from the sour look on the owner/manager's face and overall affect of the staff. Everyone seemed dispirited or just downright depressed. The food itself was so-so; our server was rather dismal: poorly informed as to the availibility of several items on the food and wine menus, slow to respond to requests, and overall appearing harried and disorganized. Not to mention having to ask for the check 3 times. Axe's lost its mojo. Too bad, it once was a special place."
