III Forks is an award-winning steakhouse, located on Lavaca Street at Cesar Chavez, in downtown Austin. Considered the Crown Jewel of American Dining, III Forks serves USDA Prime steaks, fresh fish and cold-water lobster. "My wife and I went to 3 Forks for our 1 year anniversary. I had done a little research before so I was aware of the costs, but since my wife and I had a gift card there we decided to give it a try. First off, My wife and I are a young couple with not a whole lot of money and it was pretty obvious that we were out of our element, but not once did the staff make us feel that way! We were treated like everyone else, and the manager even brought over a complementary dessert! I must admit I did not think that the food would be worth the price, but it came out just the way we ordered it and it tasted fantastic!"

(If you are a frozen Margarita fan, you might go for something else. Their frozen margaritas separate really fast, and frank;y, even with Patron, are not as good as Chuy's. )"

"What a great place! The wine list is exceptionally varied and extensive, offering "better to best" wines for all types of foods. Dinners were presented in a timely manner, with all guests being served at the same time. Food was definitely straight from from the grill or pan - the cooking team must be well choreographed. Once you've dined here, you'll be back for more."

"The service at Three Forks was poor. Salad was ordered with the dressing on the side and served with the dressing slathered over the salad. The pork loin was superbly prepared and then mired in a viscous brown gravy and anointed with a brown goo. The menu is deceptive as the meat dishes appear to be a la carts, but come with several sides making an order of side dished is unnecessary."

"Live music was great. Food was good not great for the price. I think you would do better food wise at Ruth's Chris. But it wasn't crazy over priced but I would say a little over priced. Wine list is superb. We had the Luca Malbec 2010. Service was really poor. Waiter was totally casual and inattentive. Very disappointed in that aspect. I expected much more for an establishment of this caliber."

Caesar salad was good, III Forks salad had a too-sweet sauce (couldn't really call it a dressing) that was tasty but left me feeling like I had just had dessert,
Steaks were excellent, but no choice of sides, so you had better like mashed potatoes, snow peas, and creamed corn. I really would have appreciated the choice of a baked potato or some other vegetables.
Service was excellent, other than twice our conversation was interrupted by an overly-lengthy scraping of bread crumbs off of the table, once when the entrees were served, and again afterwards. I would rather talk with my date than watch every last crumb be removed."

"This was the 8th or 9th time we've made III Forks our choice for special occasion dining. We've been to many similar restaurants in Austin as well as in San Antonio and we really love coming back here. The atmosphere, the service, the wine list, but especially the food is exceptional. As long as we're living near Austin, this will be our choice for any anniversary, birthday, or any other special occasion."

"The ambience was terrific and everyone was exceptionally nice. The NY strip was not as flavorful or juicy as what I've experienced at a few other high-end steakhouses. The Chilean Sea Bass was terrific, however. A bit disappointing that the sides are standard and come with the meal. The mashed potatoes were just okay and the mushroom gravy was not well received at our table. Overall, it was very good, but I think the steaks were just a slight notch below a few other places."

"I made special request to be near band, and they had us in a perfect spot. Waiters very attentive, but not intrsive; very knowledgable. Food was presented beautifully, and cooked perfectly. Bar could be somewhat romantic if you need a upscale place to take your date, and fun if you want to take a few friends as well. The Jazz band was excellent. This is now my favorite steakhouse in Austin (Sea bass was superb as well.)"

"I took a friend for her birthday. It was a nice evening. The only complaint I would have is that we were left looong periods of time between the server coming back to our table. She was really nice and all the servers with water and packaging our food was nice also. The baileys for the birthday toast was an exceptional and unexpected touch we really enjoyed. Also comping her bday dessert was very thoughtful. I did learn that well done at III Forks is WELL done on the bone in steak. It was delicious but I should have ordered it medium well.
I will be back!"

"A very fine restaurant primarily geared toward beef eaters. Three in my party chose the filet (all were marvelous and cooked perfectly to order). I chose the Chilean Sea Bass - it was the largest portion of fish I have ever been served! Moist and so delicious. The asparagus side, the sauteed spinach and the mushrooms rounded out the meal to perfection. The interior is a little dark for my liking. We ate quite early, so only one other table when we arrived. By the time our dinner was complete, there were several tables full - many were larger parties. The waiter, Tommy, was extremely knowledgeable of the menu items and the wine. I highly recommend this for a special occassion!"

"Less than desirable experience. They were 35 minutes late seating our party. From the time we were sat down, it took 15 minutes for the order to be taken, another 20 minutes for the salads to arrive and another hour before our entrées arrived. Although the food was good, the service was horrible. We only had a party of 5 and to add insult to injury, they self imposed a gratuity on the ticket. Nowhere on the menu does it say that gratuity will be included for parties of 5 or more. My thought is, the service was so horrible that the server knew he would not obtain a strong gratuity therefore, he placed it on the ticket to ensure his gratuity would be good. There are too many high-end restaurants in Austin Texas to spend your money here!"

"I have eaten at III Forks several times, and the food, and service has been consistently excellent, and comes with the additional bonus of location, being only steps away from ACL Live. This particular night, I had Wedge Salad, and shared a filet mignon, which came with several vegetables, plus an additional order of asparagus, which we ordered as a side. The Wedge would have been enough for me; very generous serving of well-crisped lettuce, with a huge slice of tomato steak, and generous amounts of cheese in the dressing. The steak arrived perfectly as "medium rare", all the sides were excellent, as was the house-made crispy bread."

"We chose 3 different wines off of their wine list and they didn't have any of them, finally the waiter brought us a wine that we didn't choose and said he would give it to us for a discounted price of we liked t. This was disappointing because as a steak house you would hope the wine selection is superb. The food comes out on a country kitchen type of plate and the presentation wasn't impressive, every meal comes with mashed potatoes, split peas, and cream of corn...a lil too country kitchen buffet style for my taste. The steak was ok, I had the filet, I think Ruth's Chris is much better. Overall it was ok but it wouldn't be my first choice to return to, there are much better options when it comes to steak restaurants. Service was great!"
