On Sunday mornings, follow the scent of fresh waffles to a Sunday Brunch unlike any other. Power lunch Monday-Friday where top executives have been making deals since 1951. Rekindle romance with a 5 course wine tasting dinner, followed by dancing in the adjoining Lounge. No matter what brings you to Grant Grill, we guarantee a remarkable dining experience. From the sumptuous surroundings and attentive service, to the fresh California cuisine, Grant Grill carries a tradition of excellence throughout. Renowned for shaking up some of the nation’s best cocktails, the adjoining Lounge boasts a unique Gaslamp Quarter nightlife experience. The stars of the menu are Grant Grill’s signature, hand crafted cocktails which include their very own 100 Day Barrel Aged Centennial Manhattan and a rotating collection of seasonal concoctions like the holiday’s “Smashing Pumpkin” (as featured on The Food Network).
"There are better known more expensive restaurants in San Diego but you cannot go wrong with the Grant Grill, which is better than most of the others. The hotel is elegant and restaurant very tasteful without being pretentious. The food is presented beautifully and tastes as good as it looks. The only caveat is that the portions, particularly on the tasting menu, can be small to moderate -- they are more European in size rather than catering to the all too often American emphasis on quantity versus quality. The upside is that if you order a first course and a main course, you may have room for dessert and for the prix fixe you may want to order four courses if you're very hungry or have a large appetite. But then the bread is also good."

"A creative menu is expertly executed, and is accompanied by a wide ranging wine list, served in a comfortable club-like setting in the historic US Grant hotel. I enjoyed a starter of risotto, generously laced with crab, and moved on to bergamot nuanced duck breast. The servers are a very helpful and friendly bunch, and there's none of the intimidition or "tude" that sometimes is associated with a restaurant of this formality and recognition. Despite their youth, they are knowledgeable about both kitchen and the cellar. There's also a small classic old hotel bar adjacent to the dining room, so if a meal here is not in the cards, this would be a good stop for the perfect martini."

"Wonderful restaurant in a classic downtown hotel. We visited from out of state and found it through Open Table. It was a great evening and we will be back."

"A nice place. Great decor and service. Food was quite nice but when it comes to seasoning my wife and I agreed the chef needs to take more risk. Nothing was bad, but a bit bland. A nice looking platw which needed some personality to go with it."

"I made reservations for 6:00. I made it clear that we were going to the theater for a 7:30 curtain, and I also told the hostess and the waiter. We were on time and sat at 6:07 after waiting at the desk for 10 minutes. 6:45 we still had not received our cocktails. Someone came by and asked for our patience as they were "chilling the glasses". 7:10, still no food. The check and the dinner arrived at 7:15, so we ate in 5 minutes and scurried to the Civic Center across the street. Grant Grill comped the cocktails...which arrived with the dinner. You would think after 100 years they would have had a chance to get it together. I won't go back."

"Good Ceaser salad. That's it! Service was so so bad that I hardly remember or care to anything else.Food took forever. Mistakes on my bill, took forever to get fixed. Dumb waitress! No management ANYWHERE. No apologies. Stupid people working for ??? Very very disappointing. If I had more time before having to catch a play, I would of found the manager (?) & fought the entire check."

"The food was excellent and service was good. Our only complaint was the waiter took a little too long getting our dessert to us even though we told him we were attending the opera that night. After 20 minutes we were going to cancel and asked for the check but then he brought it to us right away."

"Once in a while one finds a dining experience that far exceeds any rating system. Our dinner at Grant grill was one of those times. My wife stated it was probably one of the greatest evenings of her life. No special occasion, however the service and the music made it a special occasion. I would encourage any and all to make this one for your bucket list."

"This rating is based on my dinner experience only, because the several breakfasts and the one lunch I had there were very disappointing. For breakfast, the fruit was sour, the oatmeal was like soup, the toast was burned on the edges, the eggs were dry, the hashbrowns were undercooked. It was generally terrible, although the salmon and bagel were good. My repeat visits for breakfast were due to them being included with my hotel package. For lunch, the flatbread "pizza" had a terrible sauce that tasted like unseasoned canned tomato paste and the chicken was dry and poorly cut for the presentation. Dinner was an amazing surprise. The crab risotto was perfection and the duck had a nice flavor, although it was quite tough."

"San Diegans know the US Grant is a fabulous old hotel. So much history there. Grant Grill was renovated since I last ate there. In short it has become a more trendy atmosphere with expensive dishes of upscale character. Where you pay alot and don't get much food but it is spread around on the plates in a fancy fashion. So you think you are getting something really amazing but you are still hungry and wonder where your money went.Dinner for 3 with wine, dessert, tip exceeded $200. Service was very attentive but I could have received much more value for my money at other elegant downtown San Diego eateries, especially where you don't mind spending more than the norm for a nice meal. Not going back."

"Food is excellent and the service is attentive. The booths are large, however the tables are a bit large for the booths. We sat in an "oval" booth which was a little more comfortable. We wish they had more tables away from the bar versus these odd booths, but this is not a show stopper. This is the best restaurant that offers convenient parking and is within walking distance when we go to the opera."

"The Grant Grill isn't a typical hotel dining room. The food is incredible and the service is amazing with great attention to detail. The chef's tasting menu is the best option to try many things without having tons of food to take home."

"My husband and I came here for a Sat night date. We had a last minute reservation and were seated at a very nice table. However, 10 minutes after we sat down, a family with 2 loud children sat down just across from us. I had the farmers greens salad, filet mignon, and we split 2 of the desserts. My husband got the salmon. His portion was too small for the price. My entree was memorable. The desserts were not. We had a very nice bottle of red to go with it. There was live music. Due to the problem with the kids making so much noise all through our dinner, we took our desserts and coffees and moved closer to the live music. Probably would come back for a special occasion as it is very expensive."

"My husband absolutely loved it. The food was great but I think our server made the experience so pleasurable. I am kicking myself because I can't remember her name but she was great . She had such excellent tips on entrees and accompanying wines. When we return, I sure hope we get her again"

"Ate at the Grant pre-concert, as we often do. Fine food and great service in a formal, but not stuffy setting. Both the mock turtle soup and pork cheeks were very good as we're my wife's scallops. a downtown winner."

"An elegant dining room, comfortable seating, live jazz and a petite dance floor; these elements add up to create a memorable evening. We enjoyed the wine paired tasting menu; a great choice as it is recreated every five days. We were most impressed to learn that the hotel rooftop garden is the chef's preferred local source for vegetables and herbs. Courses arrived at an unhurried pace. The able staff know the right time to clear and present. Whenever I am in San Diego I make a point of dining at this stellar gem."

"Wonderful experience as always. Exceptionally tasty cocktail from Jeff Josenhans (Holiday in Cambodia), plus their famous delicious focaccia. Salad was very tasty and big enough to share. Albacore dish is very tasty but I wish there were more sides on it than onions. Very gracious and pleasant service. My favorite restaurant!"

"My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the dining experience, for our anniversary, at the Grant Grill. The low lighting, décor and space between tables (not sitting on top of one another) made for a romantic evening. The staff, including Sergio our server and Alberto the manager, were attentive, pleasant and provided great recommendations throughout the night. As for the cuisine, our albacore and pork cheek entrees were absolutely delicious and the Tahitian squash cake with amaretto ice cream finished the evening nicely. Being new to the area, this was our first visit but it will not be our last."

"Great food, wonderful presentation, served by mostly friendly staff. Everything was delicious , creative and thr meal was paced leisurely. The Grant as always been a beautiful hotel and their valet is the perfect answer to shortage of parking, but, at a price. Dinner parking with vslidation, along with a tip, shall cost you $15 for a short visit. The room itself was lovely although we shall not return until they replace those god awful too high tables and back breaking seat cushions un those booths."
