Black Cat
Black Cat Farm Table Bistro serves inspired, organic cuisine based on the just-picked produce from its own 130 acre farm. By day, Chef-Farmer Eric Skokan cares for the vegetables out in his fields. Each evening finds him in the kitchen crafting dishes on his daily changing menu.
The restaurant's wine list places the great wines of the world side-by-side with small, off-the-beaten-path producers from lesser-known regions. Daily pairing menus give our sommeliers ample opportunity to dip into the 400+ selection cellar, and vary in focus from Northern Italy to organic wines of the Pacific Northwest. Hand-crafted, seasonal cocktails featuring artisanal spirits and local ingredients show the talent of our professional mixologists who make our bar spring to life. The Black Cat has a lively, warm atmosphere in its intimate dining room.

"The Black Cat is great for special occasions and lives up to the high-quality standard that it promises. It is quite pricey, but if planning on celebrating and spending more than usual, there aren't many places that come close. They offer a 6 course dinner of the chef's selection, where the chef chooses the meals you receive (they do take into account preferences and allergies). This is a great way to go if you like anything and are interested in exposing your palate to different tastes. On the other hand, you can spend a little less and still get a great single course, which doesn't take quite as long. The food is terrific and of the highest quality one can find in Colorado."

"In the number one foodie town in America, this restaurant deserves highest honors. The food was incredible. This chef is a genius. The way he can blend flavors all based on that day's crop. The restaurant primarily uses ingredients from the owner's organic farm and creates a menu daily based off of that day's harvest. I recommend instead of choosing your own meal, order the 6-course meal planned by the chef. It was to die for! The wine and beer list is as good as the food. The atmosphere is wonderful. You are dining at one of the nicest restaurants in the world, yet it doesn't have a snobby feel. Tables in the front offer comfortable love seats on one side, making a special romantic dinner even more romantic. Go to Black Cat!"

"I was immediately impressed when I walked into Black Cat. The ambience is great, with gorgeously sophisticated chandeliers yes a warm and welcoming, cosy feel. We were seated right next to the kitchen and enjoyed watching the chefs prepare meals that made our mouths water. I would definitely return! The Chef's Tasting Menu made for one of the best dinners I have ever had in my life! My favorite dish was the scallop over celery puree, while my boyfriend loved the beef. Honestly, I could have gone for round two! Each dish came out at the perfect time, the waiters were all very friendly, and the food was amazing."

"We had a fantastic dinner at Black Cat. The chef/owners have four farms and raise their own veggies, poultry, pigs and lambs. Even though we were there in early spring before the crops came in, the selection and quality of the food was outstanding. The chefs "tasting menu" was 6 courses, each outstanding. The wine pairings were great, with some unique wines that I haven't had the chance to try before. Highly recommended!"

"5 Star Review (If I could give it 6 I would.) Last night Micki and I celebrated our 17th Wedding Anniversary, 18 years together.
We opted for the 7 course meal with premium wine parings which allowed the Chef to surprise us with each dish. The sommelier introduced each wine with descriptions that would have made any connoisseur and linguist proud. The restaurant team worked together with such dedication and finesse that they looked as if they were performing a ballet as opposed to taking care of guest.
Needless to say the food was spectacular.
A Standing Ovation For All Who Were Involved!
Expect to spend some time here to do this right. Our dinner was about 2 hours 45 minutes, like Europe where dinner is the evening."

"Whenever friends come into town, there are several local treasures we love to share with them including the majesty of Rocky Mountain National Park, the quirky ambiance of the Pearl Street Mall, and the delicious experience of The Black Cat. "Quite truthfully the best meal of my entire life! The food was delicious, seasonal and local and the wine pairings literally took my breath away. The service was fantastic, never interrupted a single conversation and I feel like that was a point of pride among the staff. "Opted for their devine tasting menu. They were able to accommodate my dietary request & gave me 8 small plates of surprises. Highlights were smoked trout, roasted wild salmon, passion fruit sorbet & a plate of 3 different desserts. The chocolate mousse & cinnamon mascarpone beignet were all delicious but the coffee in-an-espresso-cup ice cream complete with foam was heavenly. I would order the tasting plate again just to see (& taste) the chef's imagination."

"The carnivores in our group loved this place and every morsel that hit our plates. The vegetarians in our group were frustrated by the lack of choice. Our group of six tried a combined ten different items and each one was memorable. "Black Cat is now a neighbor, raising their own pigs and other animals just down the street. So, for a celebration we thought we'd finally go. Best pig I've ever had. Tenderloin, loin, and head cheese selections with veggies and polenta. Quite good. My wife had a vegetarian plate of root vegetables, black garbanzos, and other goodies. Excellent. Wine was perfect. Quiet Tuesday night."

"We decided to order from the dinner menu. I ordered the duck and my husband ordered the pork. It took 45 minutes to get our dinner (although they prepare the duck when ordered and it takes a while to cook). I have a VERY strict diet and the waiter and chef were fantastic about ensuring that my diet was honored! They, also made a dessert for me-which was comped due to our long wait time for dinner! I think the frustrations with the restaurant was:
-run down atmosphere
-no check in after 35 minute wait time for food
-pork was fatty and overcooked
-small portions
-side dishes didn't compliment the meat (lentils, mushrooms, carrots, sauteed greens-REALLY, for a high class restaurant?)"

"I really like Black Cat. The food is creative without being fussy and it has a great vibe. There are couches lined up against the walls with curtains that separate the tables, which makes for a very clubby atmosphere. My only complaint is the wine list. The girls and I were looking for a guzzle-able chardonnay. Nothing fancy just drinkable. The cheapest bottle was $56! I think that's pretty absurd. There were glasses for $15 and up... I wish they would expand their wine list and offer a few more affordable wines."

When food was delivered, each entree was briefly described to assure order was correct. "Black Cat never disappoints. The wait staff are courteous and attentive without being overly solicitous; the food is seasonal, local, fresh and interesting. The wines are outstanding. We had a lovely family celebration recently (adult children, not young kids) and had a great time at a quiet spot in the room the restaurant shares with their "bar" next door. Everything about the evening was wonderful."

"Wonderful resturant with a very great staff. Food was Very Good and we found the entire experience to be wonderful. This is a farm to table resturant and one where the menu is limited and controlled by the Chef pretty closely so I would recommend going on website to check out what he is serving prior to going to make sure that you will enjoy what he is cooking.
Overall it was just a wonderful resturant and one that we will definitely go to again."

"Decided to try Black Cat during Denver Restaurant week. It turned out to be a great decision as the food was excellent. It is always risky dining during Restaurant Week as some restaurants tend to feature their cheapest proteins and shrink the size of each course. In fact, we dined at one restaurant where a magnifying glass would have been helpful to see the salad. Both the kale and the beet salads were excellent. We couldn't decide who had the best entree, my pork or my dining companions brandade wrapped cod.
The only downside was that we were seated right by the door which when opened let in a wintery blast. We would suggest that Black Cat find a better solution to the cold by using a much heavier curtain between the entry and table"
