Husband and Wife team Jacob and Alicia Sessoms have returned to the area from New York City where they trained in the restaurant business. They have created a truly "market-driven seasonal New American" restaurant here in downtown Asheville. With the help of several local artisans, they have created a rustically modern and hip atmosphere in their open, store-front space with bold colors and striking wood and steel contrasts.
Jacob has been classically trained in French Pastry and Culinary Arts. He is joined in the open kitchen by another classically trained chef, Matthew Dawes. Alicia will be managing the formal yet comfortable service of the dining room, bar and wine list.
Sit down at the mahogany and maple bar or one of the hand-made maple tabletops and watch Jacob and Matt's sagacious yet simple food fill the dining room.
With a daily written moderately priced dinner menu and a $26 to $300 "Old-World" heavy wine list all the bases are covered for fine dining style cuisine.
"We were enticed to Table by a friend's recommendation and anticipated a great dinner from the varied and innovative menu. We arrived on time for our 7 PM reservation and ordered an appetizer which arrived 20 minutes later. We ordered our entrees (Beef Coulottes and Scallops in a Moroccan Sauce) and they finally arrived 50 minutes after the appetizer. As she was serving us, our waitress told us that the chef had recently broken his ankle and the kitchen was short-handed. The beef dish was cold (it was supposed to be hot) and the scallops were overdone. The food at Table should not cost what it does and diners should be warned about impending delays before they happen. We will not return."

"World class cuisine with a top notch wait and kitchen staff. You are bound to see things on the menu that you've not seen before. Go ahead and try something new from the list. Inventive, eclectic and daring but not just for the sake of being different, Table takes you new and tasty places on the food map. The menu isn't just what's for dinner. It's a magic carpet."

"Table is the best restaurant in Asheville for people who appreciate exquisite ingredients and superb preparation. Attention is paid to all details. Even the "house wine" is excellent."

"Our party of 4 tried several appetizers including the bone marrow, shrimp, charcuterie, and escargot, and got different entrees: the duck, scallops, tuna, and lamb. Everything was expertly cooked and delicious. Hard not to want to try everything since their menu changes frequently to offer the freshest local-as-possible ingredients. Staff was friendly, attentive, and professional. Tried one pastry dessert for the table that was excellent as well. A bit on the fancy (you get what you pay for!) side, so save room in the budget for a trip to this awesome restaurant."

"wonderful food and relaxed but efficient service in a very casual dining room. The hanger steak was the best I have had; waitress attributed it to cooking "sous vide". Whatever, it was great. Everyone in the restaurant looked to be having a great time and we were too."

"One of the very best in Asheville. The menu is interesting and creative. The preparations are well done and quality outstanding. We have been to Table before and it has never disappointed. When in Asheville, make arrangements to go to Table. It is well worth it."

"The chef clearly likes to experiment with the dishes he creates. We tried a variety of dishes; some were great and a few were not. We don't really want to knock the chef for his creativity; we just think some of his dishes may not appeal to everyone's tastes. The dish we enjoyed the most was the NC shrimp & cornbread dumplings appetizer. It was delicious and was a generous serving that can be shared. My husband loved the hanger steak. I had the scallops which were cooked perfectly; however, I didn't care for the sides served with it. If you don't like to experiment, this may not be the place for you. Otherwise, we recommend Table for a unique and enjoyable dining experience. It is pricey but that seems to be the norm in Asheville."

"Table produced some of the most flavorful and best prepared food I have ever had the pleasure of eating. My only regret was that we overindulged on appetizers and entrees, and had no room to try dessert. Table sets the bar high for all other Asheville restaurants and many others failed to live up to the expectation. We can't wait to return to see what the menu has in store."

"I was disappointed that the chef refused to substitute potatoes for something else; it seems like it would have been a minor adjustment, and the restaurant isnt that large. Otherwise the meal was decent and the service was fine. Not sure I would race back, however."

"Table was a great choice for brunch. The food was prepared well and the portion size was perfect. The customer service was awesome, they handled a situation that could have gone wrong perfectly. I would definitely return back again maybe at a different time to try lunch or dinner."

"This restaurant was fantastic!!! Of the two that I chose from Open Table, the concierge liked this one the least. I decided to try both and this was by far the better of the two! Unique food but not so far out that it was in any way off putting. REALLY enjoyed this dining experience."

"I went here for dinner last weekend and my fiancé and I loved the other restaurants we went to in asheville. Table's menu was unimaginetive and boring. So it took us a while to order. Once we did the food came out way too quick, like 7 minutes after we ordered. The pork and flounder had no color and flavor. We always get different things so that we can try more dishes. Neither one of us shared bc they were awful. There was no contrasting flavors, it all tasted the same. If you are in asheville for a great meal don't waste your money on a table at table."

"The menu was small but offerings were diverse and were created with great care and very high quality ingredients. Be sure to ask the wait staff questions about the menu items...they are very knowledgable and obviously excited about what they serve. The service was attentive and friendly. Try some of their unusual appetizers!
My husband's cowboy rib eye was the best cut of meat he'd had in ages. And my seafood stew was spiced just right...very Cajun! Wish we'd had room for dessert. The wine list was good, but pretty pricey."

"Appetizer was okay, not great. Salad was ok, nothing special. The main course was OUT OF THIS WORLD....Perfect in every way. Problem I have is that EVERYTHING should be amazing. I know that not everyone will like everything. It just seems like not alot of attention was put into the tastes or appetizers."

"Food was good, fresh, inventive. Open kitchen was cool, although diners can only see it when entering or if sat at the chef's bar. Service was adequate but far from warm and welcoming. Did not appear to be a popular spot as it was half empty at brunch on Easter Sunday. I will not be returning- too many great restaurants in Asheville with better service than we received at Table."

"The food and the service were a huge disappointment! There were four of us and none of us thought our dish was good. And our waitress had an attitude and then disappeared. And it isn't an inexpensive place. We were on vacation and so bummed our big night out turned out to be such a bummer. I was surprised because the website looked and sounded so good."

"The food was great. The appetizer and second courses came out great and then there was a long lag before the entree came out and our server did not keep us up to date on what was happening and why the wait was so long. The restaurant was very busy, but our server just wasn't as attentive as she could have been. It's kind of crowded. If they took a few tables out then you might not feel like you were sitting on top of the table next to you. Overall the experience was good, but I won't rush back."

"My wife and I dined here last week for the first time. Overall, the experience was ok, not great. Prior to booking, I read the hype from previous diners and had high expectations. First, kudos to the restaurant for accommodating my request for a choice table. The charcuterie plate was plentiful and delicious. We split the Maine lobster appetizer and both loved it. The entrees were disappointingly, however. I ordered the quail, which was ok but themenu says the dish includes country ham, but there was none. Our server said it was cooked with the greens. My wife ordered the tombo tuna, but didn't realize "tombo" refers to ahi, or raw, in Hawaii. Menu could be more clear for those unfamiliar with it. We will dine here again but not right away."

"The crudo was fantastic - layers of flavor and complexed while refreshing. The olives were suburb; however the charcuterie plate left much to be desired: The pickled turnip was unsettling and the cherries were overpowering. The cheeses and cured meats were just ok. The flan was great and the shortbread accompaniment was delightful. The wait staff were friendly and knowledgeable. On the Wednesday night we dined the restaurant was quiet, quaint, and romantic.
We only had starters, appetizers, and dessert. Judging from the crudo (appetizer) I would think the entrees would add much to your dining experience. From what we saw, the entrees looked delicious. Try the entrees; avoid the charcuterie."

"Out of all the restaurants we went to in Asheville, Table was the best. My boyfriend and I are big food lovers, and we fell inlove with this place. With every bite, it was hard not to reenact the scene from What About Bob, when Bill Murray is moaning while he eats. The cocktails were creative and well made, which made it hard to decide which one to order first. The menu was very local, seasonal and displays great flavor combinations. I would deffinatly recommend this restaurant to people who really appreciate food."

"Our favorite restaurant in Asheville for years. It never disappoints. In fact, it always surprises on the upside, including the last.two nights. We were in town for the SoCon basketball tournament and dined early evening before a game and late evening with a larger group after a game. Between the two evenings the menu changed enough to tempt my wife and me into trying four different appetizers and entres. Blown away with just how great the chef can make his food offerings taste. Then, there was the service. Stuart was our waiter the first night. We requested him and were rewarded with his most pleasant, professional, and thoroughly knowledgable service the second evening. The service that we received could not be bettered anywhere."

"Just about a decent enough foodie spot. I could tell that the 3 dishes I tried were using quality product, but the execution was a felt uninspired, if not off. I'd say the place as a whole is worth a try in almost any other city, but Asheville has so many options just as good if not better. It was also much more expensive than it should have been for how things were executed and how other comparable restaurants in the area are priced -- I almost forgot about that and that takes it down another notch. Yeah, go somewhere else for food and stop here for a cocktail (those are quite good)."

"The food is excellent as always. The steak tartare appetizer was tangy with just the right amount of salt. The striped bass was cooked to perfection. The veal scallapini was delicious, very schnitzel like. Before sitting down for dinner, we went up to the new bar area. It's fantastic and the bartender knows how to make great drinks; in particular the "bourbon cask aged" Negroni's were smashing. He's also very friendly and answered all our questions regarding the drink menu etc.."
