Acadia
The sophisticated, elegant space of Acadia provides a perfect house for the simultaneously contemporary and classic cuisine from Chef McCaskey. Divided into a lounge space, dining room and private dining room, Acadia is comfortable and inviting, with natural elements throughout. Soaring ceilings and colors of warm neutrals, cool grays, chocolate and sage are peppered throughout the minimal space. An open kitchen and wine room reinforce the fact that Acadia is first and foremost about great food and wine, and attention to detail paid to both. A la carte and tasting menus are available, featuring McCaskey's contemporary take on Classic American cuisine. Attentive service, contemporary-classic cocktails and a global wine list round out the offerings.

"Outrageously expensive for the very small amounts of food. The ingredients and service are top notch, but presentation takes center stage. Everything is too precious. From the home made lemongrass tonic for a gin and tonic, to the mini whoopee pies, the experience is about show.
The location is in south Chicago and is adjacent to a weedy lot. I wouldn't want to walk around there. Once inside, the room is very plain. Very few tables occupied when we were there.
Won't be back unless someone else is paying. Save your money and go to TRU instead."

"Excellent! Best new restaurant I have tried in Chicago in 2013 and the best meal I have had locally this year. The food is wonderful and is combined with an attentive wait staff. I made a small comment about it being chilly at our table and wishing I had not left my sports coat in the car, before long my coat magically appeared. We had the tasting menu with the lobster supplement and it was a delight. If you visit make sure and have a cocktail at the bar. The cocktail list is innovative and tasty, in fact you could dine at the bar (different menu) and have a great time."

"This was our second experience and it did not go well. The timing between courses was too long. We had a starter, entree, and one dessert for our party of four and it took two and a half hours for dinner. Relaxing and enjoying a meal is fine, but not at this length; especially when some of the portions were exceptionally smal this time. We are not sure when if ever we will return."

"Food at Acadia was excellent. We realy enjoyed the tasting menu and the wine pairing our very knowledgeable sommelier Jason picked for us. Cocktails were excellent as well, especially Smashin'. The only comment we had was about the view to the empty field, but our server informed us it will be taken care of soon. Very good experience overall."

"Acadia is located on a quiet little stretch of South Wabash and is highly worth a trip to dine there. The Chef's tasting menu is a series of flavor filled dishes, each very different from the last, but taken as a whole offer a wonderful arc of pleasure and taste. A very fine wine menu will complement most anything you order at Acadia. The service is superb, and friendly. While the food may be "fancy", the ambience is never stuffy...very down-to-earth."

"If you don't mind spending $400 on dinner for two, this place is for you. I have never experienced food the way I did in Acadia. We had the chef's testing menu. Every Lille plate was perfectly presented and every single thing on the plate has a reason to be there. Every bite is like a taste of heaven, so delicate and delicious. Service was impeccable You should be adventurous if you want to enjoy this place to the fullest since they would serve bone marrow, rabbit, fois gras etc.

"Acadia was recommended by a friend, and specifically for the burger. I went with a date, and was very disappointed in the atmosphere. It feel very bright, stuffy, and formal. We were seated in the dining room and asked to be moved to the bar to try to dispel the formality a bit, which helped. The burger was very good, but came with 4 stacked french fries. Overall, the atmosphere was much too reserved and it's not a place I'd go back to."

"The 7 course tasting menu was a wonderful experience. My wife is a vegetarian and they were able to create an amazing 7 course menu for her as well. Service was excellent and very friendly. The service was wonderful as well. Classic but still relaxed. Very sweet to a 7-month pregnant woman!

"Made reservations online and had mentioned it was for wife's birthday. Hosts and all wait staff were aware and wished her making her feel special. The Chef also had a hand signed card presented to her. The wait staff were very attentive. We had some wine suggested by the Sommelier and I also tried the much recommended house gin and tonic with cucumber ice cubes. We had the tasting menu (Hamachi, Mushroom soup, Tagliatelle - probably the best we have had, Lobster in a chai froth, Bone Marrow with veal, Lamb and Ile Flottante. The kitchen accommodated our special dietary needs. Allow a good 2.5 hours to enjoy the meal! Would recommend this for a special occasion."

"I have been to this restaurant a few times and I love there unique cocktail selection. It is by far the best bar in the South Loop. Very low key appearance outside but this is a true gem inside. The dining room is very nice but the view outside to an empty lot leaves much to be desired. The service and food although are worth the trip and experience. The restaurant makes you feel as if you are in a fine dining and bar in downtown Chicago. Beware tho if you want a burger that you must be seated at the bar. FYI the burger is a must try."

"The Acadia Burger having been designated best burger in Chicago by Timeout Chicago magazine recently, this very ambitious fine dining establishment ironically now must cater to the burger-consuming public. The burger is not served in the fine dining room, but only at the bar, which gives the place a distincit split personality, patrons of haute cuisine in back, and a somewhat less elite crowd in front. The lack of a sign outside makes it easy to overlook as one drives by, searching for the place. The burger is quite good. The bar has a very interesting esoteric selection and studiously avoids the more conventional."

"We went for chef week and both got the prix fixe menu. Decor was nice but a little too minimal for my tastes. Food presentation was top-notch but as expected, portions were on the smaller side — we ended up getting cheese and a second dessert at the bar after dinner. "This place is a hidden gem! From the outside it actually gives the appearance of an office space as there is no signage, but then you walk in to a typical low ceiling and then once you pass through the bar area the place opens up as if you went through the small door in Alice in Wonderland. The staff is polite and personable, the food is amazing and pleasing to the palatte! The cocktails are quite impressive, I had a Bellinimo which had a fruit/juice type ice cube to add gradual flavor to the drink. Quite creative and inspiring! We may just go back to sit at the bar and try the other cocktails on the list!"

"This was our second visit to Acadia. The first was when the restaurant had just opened. Our experience was mixed both times. The creative dishes are very well prepared with the freshest of ingredients no doubt and also presented beautifully.
Unfortunately on both occcasions serving portions are far from adequate. This time my husband had chosen to try the tasting menu. The soup was fine. The entree while being tasty, was just a tease portion wise.
The other three entree portions were small too.
We eat out almost three times a week, often at very fancy places which i am using as comparables. As a well wisher who wants a creative chef to succeed, I would suggest they add on to the portions."

"I had a friend in from out of town, so thought we should try Acadia.
We arrived and the table was not ready so we had a glass of red at the bar. We were both very hungry when we were seated and were astonished at the size of each course. The salad was thimble size the main dish was two ice cube sized pieces of chicken. The room had a screaming baby and we left hungry and rather annoyed.
The flavors were very good and the service was fantastic, but the serving sizes are ridiculous. Also maybe they need a crying baby room!"

"My wife and I went there to celebrate her bithday. The food was awesome! Pleasantly surprised at how good the tasting menu was. The wine pairings were also excellent. I like the ambiance better than Alinea. We would definitely go back."

"I like the minimalist clean space. The tables are spaced far enough apart that you aren't dining with your neighbor or listening to their conversation, but I wouldn't exactly call it intimate dining either.
The food was spectacular, solid yet playful without any serious chemistry set leanings like some other places.
The wait staff was an awkward combination of humorless pretension and ineptitude, which left something to be desired."

"This is a Michelin 1-star. After dinner there, we wondered what they would have to do to get promoted to a 2-star rating - we couldn't figure out what they could do better. We started with bizarre and fabulous cocktails and then ordered the tasting menu. The waiter was coy and ambiguous.. He explained that he wanted us to be pleasantly surprised. We were.
A highlight - mushroom "soup" - a mix of raw mushrooms, mushroom "bacon" and an remarkable broth - came with a Inman Pinot Noir that was simply the best wine paring with food that I have ever tasted. I won't spoil the rest, but every single plate was filled with subtle, complex flavors."

"Food was innovative, well presented, and very delicious. We weren't sure what to expect, since the tasting menu courses were not published, but we were pleasantly surprised by the entirety of the meal. The service was amazing. The waitstaff were attentive while still being unobtrusive. We never had to ask for a refill, as they anticipated our needs. They even provided purse hooks! The place is hard to find, as there is no exterior signs, and the street does not have much else on it. The interior is very nicely done, however."

"Do not check your coat. They will loose it. You will wait 15minutes while they threaten to take every coat out of the room. You and your party will wait and watch the drama. Not needed or wanted. No offer of a drink while you wait. No offer of anything to make up for this unprofessional behavior. They are trying so hard to be so cool. What a failure. This is an example why most customers will not return. "an ounce of pretension is worth a pond of manure.""

"The food at Acadia is fantastic and the service is wonderful--attentive but not pretentious or stuffy. The only problem is finding the plave. There is no sign out front. You have to know where it is. Once you find it and get inside, everyone is very welcoming, but finding the place is a real hassle."

"Maybe we made a bad choice by first trying this restaurant on Valentine's Day. The price was inflated: $140 per person, plus drinks, tax & tip. Our total was $460. Neither our meal nor our experience was worth anywhere near that. The portions were ridiculously small...we left hungry. One dish completely failed and was inedible (scallop noodle?!) There was nothing particularly innovative, decorative, or delicious that was offered to us, with the notable exception of the very tasty hot salted buttermilk biscuit bite. But all we got was one bite. The atmosphere was bland. However our service was excellent. We enjoyed our server, and that ALL servers greeted us as we passed. Still, we won't return and feel like we wasted a paycheck for nothing."
