"Nick Ryan's remain popular. TOO popular. It was crowded (we couldn't get an outside table, even with reservations) and noisy, and our server, though quite competent, was obviously rushed. Daily special (beans and rice) was mediocre at best."

"Wonderful evening with my husband and son. Wine special and beer selections were great; soup, salads, bread, butter:), fries, mussels, pork chops & polenta, and dessert were all amazing. Though my salad came w/o a dressing (I ordered it on the side), it was quickly provided. Our water glasses we frequently filled...a nice service.Our waiter was young, but really nice, attentive and fun. We LOVE Nick Ryan's and take out-of-town guests often!! Kudos!!"

"Was disappointed in the food quality. The wonton shrimp appetizer was tasty, but really tough. I ordered the squash ravioli I think the pasta was homemade, but it was tough...maybe not cooked enough. And the squash stuffing was very unusual. Some might like it, but because of the odd seasoning, I did not enjoy it at all. They replaced it with the salmon, which was much better, but very salty.
A friend got the hot brown and said it was very bland.
For dessert we got a salted-caramel brownie. The brownie came, but did not have any caramel on it or in it that we could tell. ???
We were there early, so things should have run a bit smoother....
Overall, not a great experience."

"The location was easy to find and just a bit off the beaten trail so it felt like going someplace really different. The greeting was cordial. We were seated in the bar area, which was perfect for two friends to feel comfortable just catching up and eating a bite. Our waiter was friendly and helpful. I had a glass of 2010 Kendall Jackson Reserve Chardonnay. Not fancy, but a good, consistent white wine perfect for lunch. The crab cake also was good. Living now on the coast of Georgia, I couldn't give it an excellent rating because it was more breaded and crustier than I prefer, but it was served beautifully on asparagus with an excellent sauce around the curve of the plate. An extremely good experience and I would definitely go back."

"I visited early on a friday evening with two friends. I made a reservation on-line (a little confusing at first as the web page did not load properly at first), which was convenient. I didn't find a number to call if I had questions or wanted to make reservations in person.
The restaurant has a nice vibe, inside and out. The rehabilitation of Jefferson St. is well on its way!
We had a nice selection of microbrewery beers. Bread arrived after a bit of a wait.The server assured us that if we were going to an event (which we were), that he would speed things up for us. We tried the catfish breaded in cornmeal (very tender) and the grouper (delicious), and enjoyable desserts.
Overall a relaxed, pleasant experience with time to spare."

"Our second visit to this wonderful restaurant reinforced our enthusiasm. Although two weeks had passed since our last visit to this bustling place, the serving staff remembered us and even remembered the wine that we had liked on our previous visit, making special effort to find us another excellent vintage. Every dish was delicious and well presented; however the greatest surprise came at the end of our meal. We would have paid far more than the very reasonable charge for our party of four that it asked. Another nice feature is that the wide variety of menu offerings and specials means that we'll have many new choices for our future meals."

"My husband and I had eaten dinner several time and found it really good, so we invited friends to go for lunch. The food was good but not as tasty as the dinners had been. One friend said their chicken salad was bland, lacking spice to make it really good. The service was somewhat slow but we figured it was because we were really between lunch and dinner (2:30) and staff may be less during this time. I would still recommend especially for dinner as it was excellent and will give it another try for lunch."

"I hesitate to say it, but our waiter didn't seem to listen when we ordered. For instance, 2 of us ordered Pinot Grigio and he brought Pinot Noir - he only heard the first word of our request and assumed we wanted the "noir"; then one person ordered the goat cheese/beet side salad and the ravioli, but he only heard "goat cheese/beet salad" and put the order in as an entree salad and not the ravioli.

"We definitely enjoyed our first visit to this wonderful restaurant. Although we worried that a restaurant with this name might be a light-weight culinary compromise, our visit revealed this as an exquisite fine dining experience. We had an impromptu late night celebratory dinner for our 10th wedding anniversary & we mentioned this to our server. Minutes later we were surprised by complimentary flutes of champagne! The attention & care provided by our server was matched by the remarkable flavors of our excellent meals. In addition, her wine suggestion proved a "find" that we'll drink again. The interior of this restaurant was well decorated with nice art & we enjoyed our meals in a refined and relaxing place."

"This was the 10th, or so, time to be at this restaurant. We find a nice atmosphere, and generally a fun place to be. However, often the food is too slow getting to the table. That was the case this time. It was a UK basketball night, but we had reservations at 6:00 for an 8:00 ballgame. Yet it was close to 7:45 before we could leave the restaurant. Our server apologized for the slow service. The food is "just ok". This trip I had the catfish filet, and the breading (I thought) was too thick and crusty. I think the menu suggests it is "lightly breaded". But, it was not. It was "heavily breaded" ....hard crust."
