The Tomato Bistro
The Tomato Bistro's intention is to serve its clientele with a mix of popular Couch Tomato Café favorites and a dynamic clutch of "small plate" menu options. The desire to further pander to customers palates is facilitated by the fully stocked bar, touting a rotating list of featured wines and craft beers. A few of the most salient points carried upstairs from the café below are the continuation of moderate prices, the ingenious combinations of quality ingredients, and the premium placed on the customer experience. The Bistro creates a forum for family and friends to relax and mingle amidst an impeccably chosen array of food and drink. The Bistro can accommodate parties of most any size or disposition, and the time spent inside its cozy environs will hardly be reflected with the waiter's final stop at the table.

"This was about our 8th time at Tomato Bistro. We originally went there with another couple before a concert because it had Gluten Free options on the menu (I have Celiac's Disease). Since then we've gone back alone and with our kids. The food is amazing every time! The service is always outstanding! Every server is friendly, knowledgable and attentive. They have the BEST GF Pizza we've ever had. I'm going to start ordering 2 so I can take one home. They have a variety on the menu so there is something for everyone. We will definitely be back soon :)"

"The whole wheat crust was better than expected with a glass of Merlot. The pizza is absolutely delicious with fresh ingredients and full of flavor. My guest really enjoyed the pot pie, as a real foodie would you consider using puff pastry and chucks of lobster on top for a variation? Great for local date night!"

"My husband is gluten intolerant and it is very difficult to find a restaurant that serves gf foods besides rice and meats. I can't even begin to tell you how wonderful the experience was at the Tomato Bistro. Great service, nice ambience and the best gluten free pizza we have ever had. I ordered the regular pizza and compared it to the gf, and there wasn't a difference. In addition, we had the option of gf bread on our sliders (which were yummy). It was awesome seeing the big grin on my Roman (yes, from Rome) husband's face during our entire meal. Thank you Tomato Bistro...oh and the salads are really something too. We will be back at least once a month ( we live an hour away)."

"We recently took our son and 9 of his friends here to celebrate his 18th birthday and it was perfect in every way. Not outrageously priced for such a large group, but top notch food and service while still being cool enough for an 18 yr. old and his friends. Not just a pizza place by any means, apps were all incredible, everyone loved it!"

"Love this restaurant! I have been several times and have not been disappointed. A special treat is the sample of tomato bisque that you get at the beginning of the meal. Perfect restaurant if you are looking for great food and consistency. The goat cheese salad is a favorite and if you do happen to have kids over the age of say 9, the pizza is perfect for them. Can get a bit noisy depending on where you are sitting and what time you are there."

"Overall, the food and service were quite good. We loved the pork sliders as well as our prosciutto pizza. There was a good selection of beers and wines by the glass. The one thing we weren't crazy about was the mussels. Although the mussels were nice and tender, the beer and bacon sauce was not to our liking. The spices and bits of bacon did not add much flavor, so the taste was mostly that of warm beer. If we order the mussels again, we will go with a different sauce. But again, the overall experience was positive and we will likely return."

"I love taking new people to The Tomato. Between the great food, attentive friendly service, ambiance and free valet parking, they are always hooked. The cheese fondu is very good with just a hint of seasoning and I have not had a pizza that I didn't like. My friend took the left overs and declared them just as good cold. Another great meal! "Manayunk is overrun with pretentious, overpriced, pseudo-fancy eateries, which makes it intimidating to try and find a place with reasonable prices and interesting yet accessible fare. The Tomato Bistro is such a gem. It shares a building and motif with the casual Couch Tomato Cafe, but that's where the similarities end. Like the aforementioned restaurants, they serve small plates, pizzas (more like flatbreads), salads, wine... But the casual atmosphere is such that you could bring a date *or* your mother *or* a small group. My wife and I shared the chicken and waffles, cheesesteak bites, and grilled shrimp salad. The first two were gussied up just a tad, but not enough to distract from their comfort-food purpose. Very good, would recommend"

"We were a group of seven celebrating a 30th birthday. When my daughter said the tomato cafe, I thought pizza, wraps and such, but then she told me no they have a bistro on the second and third floor. We as a table ordered numerous appetizers and small plates, and all were fantastic, but the short rib was out of this world. Service was great, just enough, but not in your face, and everyone had a great time!"

"My family dined at this establishment on Wednesday May 1st. As it was my first time there I questioned the our waitress Heather on the size of small plates and pizza. She explained the menu great and left to fill our drink orders - $4 wine and half off draft beers on Wednesday was a nice surprise! We ordered 2 small plates and 2 pizzas for four adults. Risotto balls were amazing, steak wrap was just fair but the pizza was delish! Thin crust and well done just the way my family and I like it. While I was not stuffed I was content. So glad I made the reservation as by the time we left the place was packed. Definitely will return!"

"Most notably the service was sub-par. I believe that could be down to the individual waitress who served us. It didn't seem exceptionally busy so I was disappointed. On the other hand, she food was very good and the beer list was a nice compliment to the food available. This isn't a special occasion type of restaurant by any means, but it could certainly be used as a nice change of pace or a staple in a Manayunk restaurant rotation. The complimentary sample of tomato bisque was a nice touch. The food was delicious but the portions were smaller than I'd have expected; however, the pricing was just right. I recommend The Tomato Bistro unhesitatingly"

"The Tomato Cafe staff goes out of their way to accommodate their guests. From the free (yes...that says free) valet parking which is a god send in Manayunk to the attentive staff members who will clear plates at tables they aren't even serving, this is evident. The food is fabulous and perfectly portioned. I highly recommend the pretzel fondue and grilled salmon salad. The citrus dressing is light and very flavorful. They also make some inventive pizzas as well. The fig is one of my favorites."

"We were surprised to see that Tomato Bistro is much more than what you see when you are passing by. There are three floors of restaurant, nicely decorated and with natural light coming from the roof. If you like (or even if you don't) like beer try the sampler. Great collection of beers. The pizzas were great and creative, gourmet style. If you bring kids, though, go with simpler pizza choices as kids can be less adventurous. Besides the pizza, we tried and liked the quinoa salad. Everything looked great. It is a bit noisy and it took a while to have our order but we went for early Sunday dinner and the place was really busy."

However. The service was very slow, waited over 45 minute to get our food. Once our food did come, it came out of order:pizza first, then appetizers. That is the only negative about his place. I will return because the food was that great."

"This a great restaurant and pizza place. The food is excellent, as are the service and atmosphere. The menu even caters to vegetarian and gluten free foodies. To top it off this place even has its own loyalty rewards program. All around awesome!"

"Been here a few times and wanted a nice but relaxed meal for my gfs birthday after a day of activity. Food was great, tomato bisque comes complimentary but is so good il order a full portion next time. We had a small plate of mussels which were huge, a couple of sliders which although are good are a bit pricey compared to a small plate and then 2 pizzas...This was our only mistake as we definitely only needed 1! We had the duck and hot and honey chicken which were both good tho maybe not together.
Overall we had another really good experience with good food and excellent service. We will be back!"

"The Tomato Bistro has amazing pizzas. Simple yet fancy ingredients provide a great blend of tastes together. I have yet to find a pizza I do not like, and their lunch buffet provides the perfect sampling. Their dinner and other a la carte items are also delicious."

"We had 7 people and they accommodated us immediately. We had the small plates which were great. I really loved the chicken and waffles. We ordered 4 pizzas. Each one was better than the other. They even made a speacial pizza for my friend who can not eat cheese. If you're a beer drinker which I am not you're are going to love the selection. I did manager to have a cider beer that I loved. I would definitely recommend trying this cute neighborhood establishment."

"The food was delicious, but our waitress was not attentive and we only saw her twice in our whole dining experience. The other waitresses were paying much more attention to their tables and ours was not interested in us, and snickered when I placed changed with the receipt to make the check easier for her. The food was outstanding and the free valet was convenient and a great plus on a cold crowded Manayunk night. The only downside was our waitress but I will gladly return as all the other wait staff seemed charming and the food was top notch."

"Have been their a couple times. The food is good - specifically appetizers and pizza. Went for valentines day and they cramped a few more tables in than usual and it was a bit uncomfortable hearing other peoples conversations.

"We have eaten at Tomato Bistro before and the food is tasty, but sadly the Valentine's meal was a huge disappointment.The advertisements for this meal were incredibly deceptive and made it sound like a great deal for the money with a few courses, dessert and champagne. It was not! All courses were to be shared, the dessert consisted of 2 chocolate strawberries, and the champagne was filled only a third of the way in cheap plastic flutes. We felt ripped off for the price.To top it off the valet parking does NOT work there! We waited exactly 30 minutes to get our car. They had all kinds of excuses and one of the attendants gave us attitude when we expressed our frustration after the first 20 minutes of waiting. Not good!"
