The Sons of Essex menu is a reflection of the diverse melting pot of cultures within the Lower East Side. The old school 'Bowery Boys' atmosphere and 'Gangs of New York' vibe pay homage to the history of the Lower East Side, fusing a traditional american comfort food menu with a range of spices from LES immigrants of the past and local ingredients including Essex Street Market fruits & vegetables. Grub on!
"This restaurant was a recommendation from a friend and it didn't disappoint. The service was impeccable and the food was very good. It was a little loud but as the evening progressed we got accustomed to the atmosphere. Pack on a Friday night!"

"went here for Mother's Day with my mother and family. The brunch menu was very good. Tried to order desert and was told it wasn't being served during brunch. that is the only thing i didn't like. I was not informed about it."

"This is the 2nd time I've been - food is fantastic (great for sharing). The ambience wasn't quite what it was previously, though it was a Monday night. Ate the truffle mushroom pizza, kale cesar and lamb. All fantastic!"

"Great bar scene but food was awful. I went with 5 friends. We ordered 5 appetizers to share that were just ok. Then we ordered 5 entrees that were terrible. Drinks did not seem to contain any alcohol and servicer was a little rude. Cool setting and vibe. I would stick to wine and beer only."

"By far my favorite brunch spot in the city for food and drinks. I got the Mac and Cheese Omelette, and my friend got the Truffle Grilled Cheese. Both were so good. And they offer $20 bottomless mimosas. I went for my birthday, and it was great with a group of 10, as well. I've also gone for dinner and had the Lobster Pot Pie. I've never been disappointed here."

"Everything excellent, except for portion sizes (especially for the price). Delicious food should come in a slightly bigger portion. But no complains about the taste, ambiance and service.
We were there for brunch on Saturday, a Knicks game was on, and the atmosphere is quite cool - some people at tables enjoying cuisine, others gathered around the screen, others at the bar. It's a gem this place. Just more food next time!! :)"

"The food was absolutely amazing and our server was super helpful. I didn't like that they changed the dessert chef/menu just a week prior to us going but the online menu still hadn't changed."

"Such delicious food and great service! We came for Sunday brunch and everything we ordered was fantastic (mushroom flatbread, mac n'cheese omelet, eggs benedictowitz). Will definitely come back here again."

"The wait was long but with the exception of one rude hostess, service was good. We got one of the round booths which was ideal for our group and avoided the crowded tables. The food was decent (normal brunch fare) but the bloody marys were above average. I would go back, especially for drinks or dinner. I mught go back for brunch but there too many other places in that neighborhood left to try!"

"The music was much too loud. I could not hear a word my boyfriend was saying and he was sitting right across from me; it was beyond frustrating. Food was fantastic."

"Started with the Reuben Dip (awesome!) and the Bacon Avocado (Not taste, returned it). Followed by the Apple Cinnamon Pork Chop (Excellent!) with Sweet Potato side (a must!). Finished with banana beignets (good, not great). The service was top notch."

"This is quickly becoming one of my favorite restaurants in NY. It has the perfect vibe to start off the night (love the music) and the food is amazing. We ordered a ton and each item was more delicious than the last. Some highlights include the skirt steak (so so so good), truffle mac and cheese, fried pickles, brussel sprouts, and most of the cocktails. I highly recommend this place for young groups."

"The experience was ok but our group of four felt rushed by the waitress and bus staff. The food was creative but just ok. Most notable - TV Dinner, Lobster Pot Pie, and the ice cream sandwich. Btw... It's not cheap."

"This was one of the greatest dining experiences I have had in awhile. Not only was the service, drinks and food on point but the DJ was spinning some serious jams which made dinner so much fun. I definitely recommend Sons of Essex for groups, probably not a first date but definitely a good date spot. I will definitely be going back, mostly for the fried chicken, mac and cheese and Biggie Smalls mashups! A++"

"I took my boyfriend here for his birthday- and it was perfect. The food is great, the atmosphere is awesome and the drinks are fantastic! Save room for dessert! Definitely looking forward to going back and diving into the rest of that menu or just to go back to the bar. If you have a small party you may end up sitting in very close proximity to another group, some of the tables are practically on top of one another but if you're not fussy about those things than it doesn't matter and if that's REALLY not your style than there are plenty of free standing tables with plenty of breathing room."

"Do not come here for dinner if you are trying to catch up with friends, music is too loud for comfortable dinner conversation. Space is great, but food was pretty bad, especially for the price. We got the Chinese New Year special make your own baos app, that was actually pretty good! For main, scallops were undercooked, and the risotto was overcooked. The homemade twinkies were terrible! Cake was so dry!! Waiter was inattentive and it wasn't even busy..."

"Good food, good bar but not accommodating to bday people, put us in a corner. A little attention to the details with their guest would go along way and respect! I'll be back! Thanks for a good time. :)"
