Dick & Jenny's
One block uptown from the corner of Napoleon and Tchoupitoulas, where century old live oaks shadow the famous music club Tipitina's, sits a mid-nineteenth century barge board cottage with burgundy clap boards and yellow shutters. Dinner plates line the walls and bear the names of Dick and Jenny's founding customers. Originally a grocery store, and later a po-boy shop, this funky New Orleans original is a gathering place for those who seek fine dining cuisine in a casual, comfortable and affordable setting. A small hand painted sign on the building hangs above the flower baskets and simply says "Dick & Jenny's."

"We attended dinner on Saturday eve for a mother's day celebration with 4 altogether. While we waited for 10 min for a table, the staff was friendly and prompt. Our waiter was a bit busy but very friendly and knowledgeable about our gluten intolerance. We very much enjoyed our delicious food and lively atmosphere. Highly recommended."

"Great restaurant and while a bit out of the way, one of the best in New Orleans. A good mix of classics and new dishes to try at every visit. Fried oysters, fresh fish served in inventive ways plus meat for the carnivores. We actually had a vegan in our party and the chef couldn't have been nicer."

"FROGLEGS! Everything was good, but this was tops. If they are in season, get them. They were something special and one of the best tasting things we have eaten anywhere.
We also had the sweetbreads and these were the most flavorful of the three sweatbreads we ordered during our trip (they are cooked with a heavy batter similar to hush puppies.) They beat out Iris and Dominiques sweatbreads. The escargot were good and very garlicky as expected. A bit on the rich side for my palate.
We have eaten at most of the top eateries in the city over our 15 trips to Nola, and this was our first time at D&J. Great food and service, even during Jazzfest. Casual dress and laid back environment. We will definitely return."

"We arrived early and were seated right away. We were "warned" there would be a large party in the same room. OK. We asked our server about two wines. He had to leave and ask someone about them. The meal was very good. Our server was lackluster. He seemed more focused on the 8-top."

The Abita braised beef short ribs were out of this world!! BUT, then I tried the dish my husband ordered.
It was a dinner special, not on the menu: green curry, coconut soft shell crab....I thought that I had died and gone to heaven.
Everything was GREAT! Food, service, background music. We had great meals while we were in town for NOJF. But, THIS one was the most memorable. THANK YOU!"

"We absolutely loved our time here. The service was wonderful as our server was helpful and friendly. He explained specials to us in great detail. The food was amazing. "Restuarant was off the beaten path where cab drivers obviously fear to tred. Waited an hour plus for a cab with little or no assistance from the staff. Wine menu was very limited with most brands unknown. Food was good, but the surly manager, disinterested staff and lack of transportation to the Quarter made for a less than enjoyable evening. Wouldn't recommend this one."

"we really wanted to try this restaurant but it seemed that all the forces were against us in our travels to get there that night---i called them to say that we were having travel issues and they said "no problem---we don't close until 10:30 and we'll make sure we hold your table for you"---we finally arrived by 10pm and they couldn't have been any nicer---they treated us to cocktails because of all the trouble we went to in getting there and never rushed us---the server was super nice the entire time even though the whole place had pretty much emptied out---the food was absolutely delicious---the corn bread was to die for, the beef short rib was yummy and the calamari in my bouillabaisse was the most tender i have ever had"

"This is a great restaurant for people who enjoy small, well thought-out menus. The food is absolutely delicious! "I have lived in New Orleans for five years and eaten at many of the city’s top restaurants and this may have just become my favorite. Not one person in my party had a dish that was not incredibly. Perhaps what stood out for me the most was the quality of everything the accompanied the dishes. The sides complemented the courses extremely well and were very flavorful. Excellent restaurant, good price, down to earth New Orleans atmosphere."

"it was great. server an-jell (not sure the spelling) was awesome. she handled gluten free requirement masterfully. the only small, very minor hiccup was the escargot was presented with the bread in the center. we reminded the server that we needed gluten free and he grabbed the bread out of the dish, and looked at us like "that's fine, right?". when we balked and asked for a redo, he took it away slightly annoyed. you guys quickly made it right, but we were surprised at how he handled it. it's why the service was not rated "outstanding"."

"Was so impressed that the host wished my husband a happy birthday when we walked in! They actually read the reservation notes! Food was all fresh and delicious and my 9 and 11 year old kids loved it too! Service was excellent. Overall, great experience."
