Circa 1922
Circa 1922 is home to tapas-style dining and wine bar in historic downtown Wilmington. Regionally-themed sharing platters are a popular new addition to the menu allowing guests to sample several tapas offerings.
A 12-bottle custom cruvinet keeps our wines by the glass consistently fresh and true to taste or choose from an eclectic international selection of wines by the bottle. After-work tapas specials, weekly sushi specials and a 3-course prix Fixe menu make Circa 1922 a popular downtown destination.

"This place has been here for a very long time and I have never been impressed with their food but decided to give it a try again. First visit back was Easter and food was very good, hoping that wasn't a fluke tried it again and found the same consistency. Food was very good and service was great. I hope this trend continues and I'll keep coming back along with telling other people to do the same."

"The sword fish entree was tasteless, it need salt + pepper + flavor. It felt like eating a plain fish that was charged expansively. I would like them to improve on your taste of food on the "special dinner meals" in the future.. The place smell nice and looked lovely, but I really did not like calamari flavor because it was so bitter in the sauce that it was covered in."

"The staff placed me & my mother in the back in the midst of 2 large groups. We asked to be moved, because there were plenty of open tables, & were told we could not because the tables were for people who had reservations. I responded that we had reservations, too. They told us we could dine upstairs, but my mother has a bad leg, & they said she could use the elevator. My mother asked if it was quieter upstairs & the woman said it was, but in an incredibly rude tone. We dined upstairs & our waitress/food was delightful, but the downstairs "service" we received, specifically from the hostess, was absolutely horrendous. They made us seem like we were an inconvenience & our reservation & money did not matter because there were only 2 of us."

"Great find, and would highly recommend this to anyone looking to dine in style and make your stomach happy! Wine list was pretty solid. Server was new but was the first one to admit that he was learning (three days in). Was very pleased with everything and will definitely be back when in the area. Highly suggest the spinach salad, as well as the sushi."

"Prom night...so crazy busy. We had a mature waiter who really knew the menu and preparations, he gave us the best service he could (which was very good) considering the huge prom tables with separate checks, etc. Food was very good. Hubby had the lamb, I had the scallops, we shared the spinach salad and spring rolls. And we shared dessert...key lime pie....YUM EEE all in all."

"I had made dinner reservations here for my husband's birthday (we were visiting from out of town). The staff was friendly. The food tasted good, but nothing spectacular and we got hardly any food for the price of our entrées. My husband's steak was the smallest I've ever seen at a restaurant. We were sat at a very small table in the middle of the room that was very close to others, and so small that barely our drinks and appetizer alone fit on the table."

"My husband and I visited circa to celebrate his birthday. Overall I'm happy we went but we won't go again. The food was good (small portions, thank god we ordered a lot) however it was more than a 30min wait from when we finished our tapas and appetizer to when our entrees arriving.Most of rewiews stated this was a great restaurant with a nice setting for a romantic dinner, unfortunately it was so loud and the tables are on top of each other . We usually celebrate all of our special occasions at Ruth Chris and I was expecting the same if not better in reference to the ambience and I was disappointed.

"This was our first visit to Circa 1922 and we went for dinner. The food was excellent and the service was very attentive. My wife had the gnocchi with wild mushrooms and I had the fresh local shrimp with grits. She loved her dish and I loved mine. The shrimp tasted like nothing you get from the supermarket, these were plump and sweet, and the dish had a subtle smoked flavor...wonderful. Both plates were perfectly portioned and not over-priced. The restaurant is easy to find in historic downtown, and public parking is around the corner & is very reasonably priced so don't waste your time trying to find street parking. Should we return to Wilmington, we will return to this restaurant. We give Circa 1922 the highest marks."

"The restaurant is nice and has an immediate comfort effect with it's dark colored wood inside but its very very dark. Several tables were using their phones to read the menu - we were even offered a flashlight by the waiter (hint! Its too dark!). The menu looked good and I was ready for the Trigger fish but, they were out of Trigger fish! And this was Saturday night at 7PM and they were already out of a menu item.
The waiter was efficient but had zero personality.
The crispy calamari appetizer was very GOOD and 'crispy'. The martini's I'd go back for any day of the week but for dinner - I don't think I'll go back.

"I have been to circa multiple times over the past 4 years and unfortunately this was the first time i was a little let down. I think their needs a refresher since it has been the same for several years now. The kitchen may have gotten comfy but my eggplant was very dry. My fiancee got scallops and they were nicely cooked and the flavor was nice. Ive always been very impressed and this time it was just mildly disappointing. Staff here is always a pleasure and you cant beat the ambiance. We will return but i think that Circa needs to spice it up a little."

"Second time going to Circa. It was wonderful the first time, but it was even BETTER this time. We had a little issue with service at first, but by the time we left, we were placated by the amazing eats! I can't recommend it highly enough!"

"The last time I was at Circa 1922 was back in 2007. I jumped at the opportunity to dine there this weekend while I was in Wilmington. It was absolutely delicious! The chocolate sushi is exactly how I remembered it and could possibly be one of the best desserts I have every had!"

"The menu lacked cohesion--tapas and appetizers and entrees and sushi, instead of being all tapas, which we had expected. However, the food was quite good, with little surprises and twists, like a boursin cheese-filled hushpuppy (be still my heart) on the side of the salad and tempura battered veggie sushi.
Obviously a place to be in downtown Wilmington. We were there Sat. night and it was jammed--a bit too loud for an evening out with friends for conversation. Staff is friendly and for the most part quite professional."

"This restaurant is to die for as far as service, price and food quality! The food is top notch and the atmosphere would be romantic if you can catch it on a night that is not crowded. I do not know if this is possible for this restaurant or not as we had our meal on Valentine's Day weekend. Open table is recommended if you want the seating that you want and it was no problem getting the seating we wanted with open table booking.
We were treated like royalty! This restaurant has made it to our top ten list in the 4 star dining category and that is not an easy task as we have eaten at restaurants all over the world and rate accordingly."

"NE lobster dish was not presented as promised. Only four small pieces of meat and more like a side dish of rosotto with a lobster flavor. Presented complaint to waitress and she laughed and said,"oh there is never enough lobster" and walked away laughing.Very odd reaction. Complained again to waitress and asked to speak to manager. Waitress returned and said the entree was deleted off bill. Main courses were brought to our table when we were 1/2 way through our salads. The food was placed along side our salads. Unprofessional to rush us, serve us more food when we haven't finished the prior dishes of food. We addressed the issue but the server said,"well it is hot now". Coffees arrive late, long after desserts served and finished."
