"We were glad to have a reservation on our Friday night visit. The place seemed full - but there is a back room that we didn't see and people were being escorted there after we were seated in the front. There's an excellent wine list, bottles from $20 to $50, half-price on Tuesdays. The menus is supplemented with specials. We enjoyed arctic char and grouper, both excellent. Our appetizers were also very good - fried oysters and bacon-wrapped prunes. Homemade deserts were delightful."

"Mixed review from the food perspective. We asked the waitress what the house specialty was & she recommended the buffalo oysters; fried oysters with buffalo sauce and blue cheese. we ordered them as our appetizer. It was evident that the grease was old and not hot enough because they were just not good. they oysters were, but the breading. then we ordered entrees, we had mixed reviews here. the bread that came before dinner was really delicious, then dinner. I had the special, grouper & saffron risotto which was fantastic. my husband had the fish and chips, it was a very big beautiful piece of fish, but as the grease was nasty, so was his meal. Finally the atmosphere, this was very much a local's place & VERY loud. Uncomfortable!"

"This place has to be the BEST place in Cambridge!! The food is so fresh and not over priced like some other restaurants in the town. The staff is so friendly and attentive. Been here several times and have not ever been disappointed. Seems to be a real locals hot spot!"

"I had the chicken and waffles with very high hopes but it fell flat for me - it was too savory/rich and needed something acidic or vinegary to cut the fattiness/richness, and it needed some crunch. my companion had the fish over succotash and loved it. I would go back."

"We had a few glitches, and the appetizer didn't come before our meal (the original appetizer was not available), but the waitress made sure that adjustments were made, and sent us home with an awesome dessert, as well. We love this restaurant and will be back!"

"The High Spot is certainly a highlight of the downtown Cambridge area. The menu lives up to its "gastro-pub" claims, providing an array of choices from classic fish and chips to beer-braised short ribs and a mouth-watering, upscale take on chicken and waffles. The beer and wine selection were sufficient for the menu and the desserts were well-portioned and clearly homemade. Our waitress was friendly, energetic, and attentive. My single complaint would be the noise level; at one point during the evening our table of four had to lean in like we were telling secrets just to talk. However, we had a party of about 14 behind us, which may have lent to the higher noise levels. Overall the experience was thoroughly enjoyable!"

"Everything I've had lately at the High Spot has been excellent and the wait staff has been really professional. I had the chicken pot pie which was really tasty as was the onion soup. They had a special vegetable which was brussel sprouts with bacon and balsamic which is three of my favorite things and it did not disappoint."

"Our server never told us about the speacials. Buffalo oyster apitizer was cold. Moules and frites were horrible. 6 mussles were spoiled, 6 never opened which made us leary of finishing the dish. My wife had the "vegetarian risotto" which was the equivalent of canned mixed veggies in risotto. Considering the quality of food combined with apathetic service. My wife and I found it to be way overated and over-hyped."

"My husband and I had a great brunch with both sets of our parents. The omlettes were divine and my mother in law ordered "the best french toast I've ever had!". Homemade hot chocolate was sinfully rich and the local coffee was robust!"
