"Herons is a wonderful place to celebrate a special occasion or have a sophisticated dinner with friends or colleagues. The service is very professional but also warm and friendly. I especially like how they pair wines to each dish. Every dish is presented in a unique and beautiful way and as yummy as they are attractive. The ambiance is formal but very comfortable and inviting. I will go back to try the seasonal menus as well as the chef's selections and will always get the wine pairings as they are exquisitely matched with the dishes served."

"We had been to Heron's before and this did not measure up to previous meals there. My cream of sunchoke soup was bland. My brother's steak was excellent but tiny. I tried my mother's seafood terrine and we both found it to have little flavor except a lingering, oily, fishy aftertaste. The dessert selections sounded boring so we just had coffee. When my brother had first arrived, he'd mentioned our mother's birthday and been told there would be something special for her but apparently they forgot. As we were about to leave after paying the bill, my brother inquired about the birthday and then they brought out some chocolates for her which was nice, but by then we had finished our coffee and been waiting quite a while. It took too long."

"The food at Heron's was marvelous. Almost every dish was delicious in a surprising way. In addition to the courses I ordered, I was given several small additional dishes, including some chocolates to take home. The service was attentive and personallized. "We are foodies who have dined in the Triangle for decades, so I'm comparing to favorites like Panciuto, Nana's, Lantern, etc. Herons easily had the fanciest environment - warm, modern, sophisticated. The 5 course tasting menu with wine pairing runs $150 per person before tip. The amuse bouche and 3 of 5 courses were exquisite and unparalleled anywhere. Flavors were delicate, exciting and unexpected. 2 courses were disappointing - tilefish was overcooked and jasmine cake was over crusted with sugar and unintegrated molecular gastronomy flourishes. Would definitely try again anyway to see what else they can do. Service was perfect, we especially love the custom-printed souvenir menu with our names and occasion for souvenir."

"We were very disappointed!! The scallops were very good, but a baby lettuce salad was fair to poor. The striped bass had the skin on, and when that was removed, the fish had no sear or crispy exterior on either side. Desserts were very limited for gluten sensitive diners. "Every attention was paid to us. Our waiter, Derek, was one of the best we've ever had anywhere. Our food was excellent. The snow "storm" the morning we were there added to the ambiance. It was like a winter wonderland. We almost didn't make the drive from Durham, but were so glad that we did."
