"My wife and I dined at The St. Paul Grill for our 17th Wedding Anniversary. We were very pleased with the excellent service, food, wine, and atmosphere of the restaurant. "The "Grill" is a great place to eat prior to an Ordway performance. The food is good, the ambience is upbeat, though the service may get a little rushed if people do not show up on time for their reservations. We always leave for the show in an positive mood thanks to our lunch at the Grill."

"I spent mothers day with my special lady at this establishment for dinner before attending an evening at the Ordway, while this was only my second time visiting (a first for dinner) I felt that there would be better service. First our wait person brought the soup which was cold but didn't bother to return to check if anything was wrong (we had to ask another wait person for assistance). Secondly, after the meal was served we were never given a courtesy follow-up "how's everything" or would you like something else, and thirdly we had to ask the bus person to find the wait person so we could pay for the meal."

"I have been to the St. Paul Grill many times. The last 2 times I left feeling unsatisfied with my experience. My steak was overcooked, which I understand happens - but typically not when you pay $54 for it. Our service was marginal, which happens, but should not at this level."

"When I think of a special event, I think of the St. Paul Grille. It always reminds me of Tadich grill in San Francisco. It is elegant and of old world charm. It is a step above in every aspect, befitting of the St. Paul Hotel. I also like the location next to Rice park, the Ordway and Landmark center. A true gem."

"Usually St. Paul Grill knocks it out of the park. This recent visit was just ok. We ordered our food and it literally arrived in less than 5 minutes. Cheese sampler (burnt bread) and Wallye. The food was so-so. Again, usually it is amazing! Also, we were celebrating a 70th birthday and nothing was offered for that. It was mentioned by the server, so she knew about it- but nothing done to acknowledge it- and we chose St. Paul Grill BECASUE of the special occasion. Over all, not that pleased and won't be back soon- and it's been a favorite place of ours for years!"

"Welcome to the St. Paul Grill, the premier restaurant in downtown St. Paul, Minnesota. I don't work for the Grill but like going there and typically do a few times a month. The restaurant is in my opinion, one of the top restaurants in Minnesota. The lunches are excellent and the dinners are even better. The interior is done in a classic dark wood finish which is really warm and inviting. The menu is a bit pricy, especially for dinner but it is absolutely worth it. The chefs here know how to cook a steak and do it correctly."

"The food was delicious: beef bites, wild rice soup, walleye, shrimp scampi and broccolini. Loved the chocolate molten lava cake and Winter Carnival dessert drink. The service was impeccable. We usually love this place as an upscale celebration dinner destination...not so much Sunday evening when Fleetwood Mac was in town for a concert. The noise level was so high we couldn't carry on a conversation. We were disappointed to see many diners in jeans, shorts and T shirts. Clientele dummied this restaurant down and spoiled the ambience. Next time, we'll come during the week."

"My wife and I came here for a date night on a Thursday. We shared the wedge salad as a starter, which was great. I had the scallops and she had the swordfish. Both entrees were fantastic. I had a barrel-aged Manhattan, which I would order again. One of the better Manhattan cocktails I have had in recent history. Overall, the restaurant was 4 out of 5 stars in my opinion. Great food and attentive service. Hostess could have been more friendly and the valet service could have been more organized, but those are minor complaints. On a previous visit, I enjoyed the bar area a little more. The restaurant was a little too quiet for my tastes on this visit and was what I would expect from any high end steak house that I have visited in the U.S."

"It was ok. Nice historic spot. Tempting menu items but the high prices weren't justified. I don't mind paying such high prices if the food is fantastic but it was just ok. Nice wine selection. Some of the Seafood was over cooked. Scallops were nicely done but no sear to them. Just ok all around but fancy ambiance. I'd recommend to non foodies looking for a fancy (and overly priced) evening out, but there are better restaurants at cheaper prices in MPLS-StP area."

"We went here for the first time for a special birthday celebration. Our server was pleasant and food was good. We had steak and walleye both prepared perfectly. Pasta dish was OK. Augratin potatoes nothing great, i would skip those next time. Brought in our own cake and server brought out with candles and chose not to charge the cutting fee, which was nice. Asked at reservation for nice table with view of park and got just that! Overall nice evening and although pricey would go back!"

I belive our waitress gave us poor service because we are younger than the average clientele and she did not think she would receive a decent tip. "We had an outstanding experience at the St. Paul Grill and Bar. There was an April prix fixe menu which was a really good bargain. I had lamb for the appetizer, the ribeye with mushrooms for the main course, and a very rich chocolate cake with ice cream and caramel for dessert all for only $50. My wife had delicious trout with asparagus. The noise was moderate -- not subdued, but not overwhelmingly loud either. We were in the far end of the restaurant, though, and closer to the front near the bar was louder and more energetic. Our service was prompt and courteous. Overall we were extremely please with our experience."

"When i have gone for lunch i have really enjoyed the experience; reasonably priced, good food and good service.I made dinner reservations expecting it to be fantastic but was disappointed.
We had a dinner for 4 and the food was not good. My husband ordered a Rigatoni dish with no mushrooms. It came WITH mushrooms and the server took it back, but when the dish came corrected the noodles were under-cooked. When you are dropping $300 on a dinner out, these sorts of things should NEVER happen. My salmon was perfectly cooked with a side of spinach and should have been good,but it was drowning in a sauce that completely ruined the dish. Overall, I will visit again for a lunch meeting. Next time i want to have a good dinner, i'll go elsewhere."

"We really enjoy the St Paul Grill. The food and service is always outstanding. This past visit the parking situation was a little rough. The St Paul Grill does not have any accessible attached parking, so we due to the very wet weather of Sunday we were quite soaked by the time we got into the restaurant. My husband is in a wheelchair and drives an accessible van so valet parking is not an option either (?) because his van has no driver seat since his wheel chair locks into that place. Never the less once we got into the building we forgot about the wetness and had a lovely anniversary dinner. Thanks."

"We waited 15 minutes after our reservation time to get seated even though we could see empty tables. As we waited, a couple came out and thanked the hostess for getting them in without a reservation. I spoke with the manager and he promised us excellent service as compensation. I expect excellent service anyway so this was hardly compensation. And the service was only average. Even though our food was served quickly, we felt rushed for our theatre reservations. Next time I think we will arrive 15 minutes late and see if we can get seated immediately."

"we always enjoy coming here before the opera. On this occasion, we did not get caramel rolls like we usuallly get, but got sweet rolls instead. we looked around and the place was packed, so we understood, that they can be out of things.our table was in a crowded place, but again, everything else was filled. The food was very good, cajun shrimp benedict. this was a first for us as a selection."

"For a romantic night, request a seat facing Rice Park and consider their prix fixe menu offering with wine pairings. The night we went, we chose the French Onion soup paired with a Syrah for our first course, a tenderloin and a sea bass paired with a chardonnay for our second, and burnt crème paired with a 10-year old port for our third course. All the flavors were fresh and complemented each other well, and the portions were just right.
We will be visiting again to see what items they will offer next time we visit."
