A trip to Italy is as close as the North Shore of Long Island! Glen Cove welcomes its newest Italian eatery and it has already drummed up a loyal fan base. Tappo, which means cork in Italian, opened its doors October of 2011 and the wine has been flowing steadily ever since. Tappo is the joint venture of long-time friends Paula Gagliardi and Francesco Di Maio. Francesco, born and raised in Sorrento, just off the majestic Amalfi Coast of Italy, has always treasured the cultural offerings of his home country – the food, wine, the language and the lifestyle. He insists that a great gastronomic experience is only as good as the company with whom it is shared. Many diners will recognize him from his post In Great Neck where after 16 years of gracing patrons with his infectious charm, he has managed to develop a loyal following of loyal customer-compares. The vino-centric restaurant was inspired by the duo’s shared passion for food, family, friends and of course…wine.
"This is my 2nd trip since late February. I drive here from Brooklyn? On my first trip I loved the food and service, and noticed some other items on the menu that I wanted to try. The eggplant croquets were fantastic, as is the "Linguine Nero". I actually asked that they serve the seafood I ordered over the Linguine. No problem...and delicious! My girlfriend had the Ravioli filled w/ beets, she loved them! I can't comment on the wine list, as I had the drive back to Brooklyn, though judging on all the corks they have there, I'd say the list is pretty extensive. They are very attentive here, prices are fair, and portions generous. I look forward to my third visit, and hope to bring a few more of my Brooklyn friends with me.

"My husband and I had a very enjoyable dining experience at Tappo. At first we were a little concerned because there were two big groups and our table for 2 on a Tuesday night during Restaurant Week. When I heard everyone speaking Italian, I knew the food wasn't going to disappoint. The owner was very involved and hospitable, and we were attended to like we were frequent guests there. The tomato sauce on the vegetable lasagna was delicious -- I can't wait to go back and order something with that sauce. My husband had the chicken which he enjoyed. The end of the meal was the best with chocolate molten cake, chocolate gelato, a cappuccino and a limoncello. So excited we found Tappo!"

"We had a great experience at Tappo. The food, service and ambience were all exceptional. It's very refreshing to be able to carry on a conversation in a packed restaurant without having to shout. Thank you and looking forward to returning over and over again."

"After an extensive search for someplace new to go to for an early Saturday evening dinner, I stumbled upon Tappo. Tappo is an unpretentious neighborhood restaurant that doesn't break the bank and is suitable for family dining. There were many families present. Francesco the maitre'd is attentive and pleasant. The food was delicious, although the pasta was served too al dente for my taste and I had to send it back. They replaced it quickly and pleasantly."

"Tappo is a welcome addition to our restaurant list here in Glen Cove. Beautiful decor, soft lighting and music welcome you as does the owner Francesco. The menu changes seasonally always ask about the evening specials, they are not to be missed! We have dined several times now and are always pleased. Well done!!"

"Decided to come here for our daughter's 15th birthday party we had a large group and the experience was fantastic. Excellent appetizers -the artichokes were to die for. They also make a very good Caesar salad. The entrées including the nightly specials were delicious. We were a party of 10 so there were various orders and all of them got rave reviews. We will continue to visit this restaurant it's a great neighborhood place and the decor is beautiful too! Good wine list and house wines good too."

"The food was excellent. The black linquine with lobster is great because the sauce is not over the top. We also had the bolognese sauce with rigatoni, which was also great. They had a white bean soup special, which was very good as well."

"Always great service and top quality food at Tappo. Nice wine selection leaning more to Italian vintages. They have a nice wine offer when you dine on Mondays and Tuesdays any wine under $100 is half off. Deserts are nice also. Nice place where you can not go wrong."

"We were disappointed with our experience. While service was initially attentive (we were the only table), as other tables were seated, attention dwindled. A maximum total of 6 tables were being served dinner on the Friday evening while we were there. Salads ordered included Caesar & wedge. Caesar dressing bland. Food selections were limited & portions were extremely small including black pasta dish ordered based on a prior recommendation. Usually, pasta for $28.00 is served in a portion size that allows you to bring home leftovers good for at least one or 2 more meals. The short ribs sounded spectacular but here, again the seasoning was bland. Went in expecting a wonderful experience - have to say it was less than average."

"Took a chance on this restaurant and I am glad I did. I was with a group of 6 people. We started out at the bar with cocktails and then had a delicious dinner. I am Italian and the food as well as the decor made me feel like I was in Italy. That and the fact that they had the Italian news channel on at the bar. I am definitely going back. Delish"

"This was our first visit here, and we're happy we found it (we accidently walked into the place next door!). It is set back from the street, so don't make the same mistake we did. I ordered the "cozze"...very tasty! Also, one of my favorites "Black" Linguine (made with squid ink...not many places serve this) was on the menu. It was served with lobster. It was fantastic. My girlfriend had the Pollo Paula, which was also very good. The service was excellent, and they are very friendly. Though a long way from Brooklyn, I will be back!
