Restaurant Mitsunobu opened its doors in Menlo Park, California in October 2011 with our passion to offer a unique dining experience with a heart of Japanese hospitality “omotenashi”. Owner chef Mitsunobu and executive chef Aoki jointly develop an outstanding menu expressing our inspiration of traditional Japanese cuisine inspired by California. Our menu consists of a Kaiseki Tasting course and an array of a la carte items based on the freshest carefully chosen seasonal ingredients from local producers as well as selected Japanese producers. Our experienced and knowledgeable servers will be here to assist you in creating your own course menu combined with special selections from our sashimi bar and premium list of wine and sake. Please visit our website for more details. We guarantee you will be gratified!
"The hostess called me in advance to talk about my vegetarian options and they created a separate menu for us. The waitress was SO friendly too. Service doesn't get better than this!"

"We've come a few times for lunch and dinner since it changed names from Kaygetsu, and we're still fans. Indeed, the food and service are exemplary. The sashimi moriawase was so good that it brought tears to my eyes. Incredibly fresh. The restaurant doesn't have quite the high polish in either overall food or service that Kaygetsu consistently offered, which used to easily rival our favorite top restaurants in Japan, but this is still a truly outstanding and totally satisfying experience. Highly recommended."

"The 8 course kaiseki menu is very good if somewhat pricey. You might want to save that for a special occasion. Waiter was good, but it was a bit difficult to understand his English. Fish was super fresh and each course was a work of art."

"We went for an anniversary dinner. As always, the food was wonderful and the staff very attentive. One of us ordered the multicourse kaisekei menu and the other ala cart. They were very successful in timing the courses to dovetail. The last (dessert) course was served in a box, with a custom message in the lid, written in Japanese with green tea powder. The food and the experience are well-worth the money."

"Delicious! Sashimi was outstanding. Uni was yummy. Everything was artfully presented. Service was polite and unobtrusive, yet available and attentive. Every dish was delicious. Dessert box commemorated the occasion."

"Very expensive and the CHEF will not budge on changing his mind if you want to swap out a certain kind of fish. For example, I do not like EEL. When I asked for No EEL, the waitress said the CHEF decides what he wants to put on the plate. you don't have input."

"Food was done to perfection. Flavors were balanced and light. Fish was done to the right degree, not raw nor overcooked. Because I have numerous food allergies (including shellfish), they were very careful about the ingredients used in each dish, checked with me before ordering and serving, and made sure I had a wonderful dining experience. A definite do-again place!"

"Food was very good clean food. I found nothing spectacular but everything we had was high quality and yummy. The menu lacks true specials and some of the signature dishes that Kaygetsu used to have."

"We enjoyed our late lunch. The sushi was fresh and proportioned nicely (rather than American style slabs of cold fish on too much rice), but the rolls could have been a bit tighter. We had our 11-month old with us and they were very nice to him. We will come again."

"We always love the food and quality of food whenever we eat here. The chef has a unique spin on traditional Japanese dishes and everything is always of the highest quality of anywhere in the bay area."

"The food was just outstanding with exception of the Filet Mignon, very nice presentation, one of the most expensive items, but the taste was just average and didn't belongs to the rest of the menu, The fish and sushi was just phenomenal and to die for!
We leave in Silicon Valley and we have been waiting for a Japanese place like this for more than 12 years!. (The place is only 14 months old)"
