"Easily changed reservation from 6-10 during reminder phone call - some of the dishes and wines were unavailable but the selection was still quite good! The menu was a bit limited but good and the price was great @ $26 for appie, entree and dessert. Great location and we had a great table at back for our larger party. Good vegetarian selection too!"

"The petit bouche of canneloni stuffed with cheeses was wonderful, if rich. The breads were superb too. Service was excellent.
There was a lot of cream in the arancini appetizer. Maybe combine one arancino piece with some fruit or vegetable.
For our main course, the ciopino, the fish were delicious (shrimp, mussels and halibut), but the broth has too much clam nectar. Maybe try 3/4 fish broth and 1/4 clam nectar. The excess clam nectar detracted from the broth. My friend could not drink it."

"Back then there was always a head chef who supervised the diners. As a result, the food and service was good. Not this time around. Service was bad. The waitress attitude was good. However she was not attentive and forgot to give us our utensils after each course. Food quality has decreased. Overall as the economy worsens, the restaurant quality parallels its decrease."

"My friends and I enjoyed a lovely meal of seafood and duck with very good white wine. The chocolate mousse dessert was simply divine. This was my third visit to the restaurant and as previously, I was most delighted with the menu. The only drawback at times was the noise level from fellow patrons at nearby tables, however, that in itself was not enough to diminish a fabulous dining experience."

"My husband and I went there for our 5th year anniversary. The students were nice and very helpful and the food was fantastic. The view from the restaurant was amazing. They topped up a nice lunch with a few hand made chocolates with a chocolate written note that said "happy 5th anniversary". It was a nice touch."

"The young servers are a little shaky, but their heart is really into good service, so one has to be tolerant. The food was excellent. My only VERY minor complaint was that I prefer fish to be more or less rare; the halibut was a trifle dry.
The restaurant itself is attractive and free of the too loud music that keeps me away from many other restaurants. I did not check it out but I noticed what seems to be a really neat retail bakery at the front entrance.
I'm coming back again next week, so that is my vote of confidence."

The students (being the staff) were very attentive. we enjoyed discussing their culinary program and future career aspirations with them. Good ambiance looking over the Granville Island marina. I would not hesitate to return to Bistro One or to recommend to foodies."

"Environment - excellent
Service - average, our server didn't pay full attention to us while taking our order or getting our bill. She was checking her phone
Food - average, didn't blow me away, but acceptable
Overall - just average, wouldn't come back for food but maybe for the view. Also, check your bill. We came here on a Wednesday and the wine was supposed to be half price. When I got home, I realize the bottle of white wine that we ordered was charged full price. Was in a hurry to go somewhere else and didn't review the bill. Not please with it.

"We went here to celebrate our anniversary. The room is lovely. Particularly nice is the fact that the tables are far enough apart to allow private conversations. The lighting is right, allowing you to see the menu well but hiding the wrinkles!
. The bar is nice with comfortable seats around it. What is particularly fun is that you can see into the kitchens so you get to see all the apprentices at work.
The food is very well presented and tastes lovely. The deserts are particularly beautiful to gaze upon.
Definitely worth a visit."

"This is a culinary TRAINING school so Bistro 101 must be evaluated on that basis. The food - choices, preperation, presentation are outstanding and can compete with any 3 star Michelin restaurant. Everything looks beautiful and tastes wonderful. Artful garnishes are a specialty. Service is "iffy" as students find their way dealing with the public. Overall, Bistro 101 is a hidden GEM, not to be missed if you are in Vancouver. Reservations are a must as the prices for such excellent food are a genuine bargain. Sugar free dessert was graciously prepared upon request. Adoining bakery has luscious breads, treats to take out.Other diners appeared to be very pleased with the extensive wine list."

Fairly dimly lit with a nice view of Granville island

"Atmosphere was pleasant, meal was unhurried, staff pleasant, one somewhat nervous.
Overall food presentation was very good. Enjoyed most the ahi tuna carpaccio and the small taste serving of the ceviche. Trout and shrimp dish - lacked moisture, bland, underseasoned and overcooked for my taste, shrimp small and somewhat tasteless. Sprouts and carrots dry and overcooked. Necessary for me to ask for lemon wedges, salt, pepper [I like course black pepper]. Pasta reasonably cooked, sauce vibrant visually however lacked flavour. Dessert was so, so, lemon flavour undiscernable [for my taste]. Raspberry coulis vibrant visually, taste so, so. I really like sauces, amount served not enough for me. Good coffee. Really enjoyed the bread samples.

"Food was exceptional. All ingredients were very fresh and the presentation was wonderful. I had the cream of spinach and mushroom soup which, although very fresh, lacked flavour. Otherwise, everything was fantastic. I had the quail with Thai brown rice and seasonal vegetables. For dessert, I had the cheesecake with a chocolate macaroon. The cheesecake was much lighter than typical and the chocolate sauce was to die for. Probably the best cheesecake dessert I have ever had in a restaurant. Our server was pleasant but timi. I think she was new in the role. As this is a culinary school we did not mind that she was not experienced. She did her best to answer our questions, but noticeably lacked confidence. Will definitely return."

"The food for the most part was delicious. Two out of my three course meal were not as good as I had expected. Conversely, my partner's three courses were outstanding! The service was wonderful, and very welcoming. However, by the time ~9:30pm struck we were one of the only tables left and the staff started moving things around for the next morning and being rather loud in the back rooms. That dimmed our excitement with the place. Regardless, I would definitely recommend this restaurant and will be coming back, maybe just aim for a sooner dinner and ask the staff what they would recommend to eat."

"Lunch at DineOutVancouver. Expected & was very happy with the quality of the food & was very pleasantly surprised by the quantity - before appetizer order arrived we also unexpectedly received a couple of pop-in-your-mouth green parmesan puree-filled not quite crispy baked "cups", very tasty & a nice variety & quantity of bread in the basket. The appetizer (crab cake) was a very good size & if I wasn't hungry, this could have been a light entree in itself. The seafood "soup" with pasta bow-ties was very good, not a lot of the soup but just enough to enjoy & dip more bread. As lunch ran late, we had to take the pear/tart to go - the kitchen did not include the ginger ice cream, which I would have liked to try as well."

"Good service considering the servers are mostly students. Excellent food, well presented and attractively priced. I guess desserts are a bit on the sweet side for most Asians like myself. Surprisingly quiet restaurant for 70% full. Overall it was a very memorable experience for my friend and me."

"Our waiter, Leo was attentive, helpful, pleasant, friendly, well mannered and was very kind to offer us a view of the kitchen and teaching areas. That was great PR for the public to take interest in registering for day courses. He was very knowledgeable and informal, taking the time to show us around. The students in the kitchen were very socialable and friendly. Jen, the phone receptionist was very friendly and helpful on the phone."
