"I now know why we were able to get a last minute reservation for Father's Day. This place isn't very good. My Eggs Benedict was cold, they forgot half of the side items that were to go with my food, and the food itself wasn't very plated in a very appealing manner. Our service was so-so. I won't be back and I expect many other people feel that way after eating there once, hence all the empty tables. There are so many great restaurants in Birmingham I really don't know why anyone would bother with Village Tavern."

"We chose the Village Tavern for our reunion luncheon with a classmate who we had not seen in 40 years. We were able to sit in a quiet corner and talk, talk, talk. We were promptly seated upon arrival at 11 a.m. The food was wonderful. Every member of our party was commenting positively about it. We had a great couple of hours and really enjoyed our time there. Highly recommend it!"

"I'd heard great things but was unfortunately disappointed. Our server was nice, but disappeared for long periods of time. I inquired about the seasonal vegetable and she replied, "Oh, it's the same every day. It's always green beans." I ordered the scallops dinner, a speciality of the restaurant. The flavor of the scallops was completely overcome by the very heavy garlic butter that formed a crust on the outside of the scallop. It was incredibly salty, also masking the natural seafood flavor. The mashed potatoes and green beans were quite good, though very buttery and salty. My husband ordered the pork chop dinner and found his to be very salty, also. We didn't send our food back because it would've ruined our anniversary evening."

"I have been to Village Tavern several times over the years, but recently went for their Sunday Brunch and it was outstanding and quite reasonably priced. My wife and I returned there last week to celebrate our anniversary and again had a wonderful meal and excellent service. Would highly recommend it!"

"I keep trying every six months hoping they'll get it just right. It has a great atmosphere and very good service, but I always seem to have trouble with the dinner's being hot. Both the meatloaf and the chicken colorado were okay, nothing to write home about.
I loved the salad wedge and the blue cheese was excellent.
It was very active, lots of people there, small waiting line on Friday night With our reservation our table was ready on time when we walked in.
What's up with valet parking? Lots of empty spaces all reserved for valet, if you don't use valet you'll have a long walk."

"I had received a gift card for this restaurant and took another couple with us for a night out. We were seated in a booth in the back, adjacent to a party of 25 people on a long table, there for a graduation party it seemed. The table was so loud we were not able to talk at our table without shouting. It was not nice.
Our waiter, Lance, was excellent, checking on us constantly.
We had crab dip for appetizer and we did not think it was as good as it had been in the past. I ordered Fish & Chips with sweet potato fries - good flavor but they forgot my coleslaw. (2) Pizzas were ordered, one thought the crust was chewy and the other got a thumbs up. Shrimp & Grits was ordered by another at the table and got a thumbs up."

Menu has little to differentiate from other restaurants in this price range, but the items we had (salmon and steak au poivre) were very well-executed. "Our experience got off to a somewhat rocky start as our table was given away for being 7 minutes late for our 7:15 reservation. That was a bit much as most restaurants give a 15 minute leniency. Regardless, it was a busy night and we were accomodated in a reasonable amount of time. The food was delicious and atmosphere lively and sophisticated."

"The Restaurant was very crowded, we had a wait to be seated although our reservation was made in advance. We waited for our initial service and the entrees were less than the desired temperature. However. We were very pleased with the response, service and courtesy of the entire Staff. Our entrees were taken care of quickly and we completely enjoyed the rest of our evening, the food, and especially the service. This was our second time to enjoy this restaurant snd will definitely be back."

"Service was outstanding! I believe Chris is the manager and he is super observant and ready to assist. He noticed me struggling to setup our baby seat and offered to help. He waiting on us while the server was away. I guess he thought the waiter had been gone too long but we didn't know the waiter's absence, just the kindness of the manager. He the saw us leaving and waited by the door until the valet pulled up our car and then he opened the door for my family. By far the best manager I have seen in action. The food was very good as well. We will be back."
