Port Land Grille has progressive American regional cuisine masterfully executed by chef owner Shawn Wellersdick in a casually elegant coastal setting since November 2000.
"We had the best meal we've ever eaten in Wilmington. I loved the pear and gorgonazola salad and the ahi main course and my husband said the beef tenderloin melted in his mouth. Save room for dessert, because a plate of multiple desserts is the way to go and they are all wonderful, especially the coconut cake, even though I'm rarely a coconut fan. The special touch of anniversary confetti on our table surrounding the elegant single yellow rose to help us celebrate was a thoughtful gesture. The service was impeccable and everything was timed perfectly from the kitchen!"

"We have come to celebrate all our special occasions at the Port Land Grille. This time is it was our choice for celebrating my wife's birthday. The folks who own it have a way of showing they appreciate your business and the food is always prepared perfectly. When friends visit, we also recommend they have at least one meal there while they are in town. Wilmington is a town full of really good restaurants, but after years of "trying them all" the Port Land Grille stands out as the best in my book."

"The service was great here and the outdoor seeting was lovely by the pond. We only had the small plates...they were big portions and very rich. I was satisified with the food but it wasn't really that awesome. We ordered the coconut cake for dessert. The cake was stale/dry and did not have nearly enough sauce or cream with it. The piece was huge though...9 layers I think. If we went back I think we would only get one "small plate" as they are like appetizers not tapas style and get an entree to try."

"Great good and even better service. Our server recommended both of our meals and she was right no point. When my friend suggested a well done steak the server changed her mind to MW instead, great call. It couldn't have been better. Thanks"

"We showed up and Portland Grille did not have our reservation for 6 which I had booked weeks prior. Glad that we did not have to wait long for our table. Not sure why open table wasn't linked to Portland's books."

"While I live in Washington, DC, my friends and I were gathering in the Wilmington area to celebrate the Azalea festival. I made the reservation to celebrate my friend's birthday. At the last moment, we needed to amend out reservation from 5 people to 8 people, and the restaurant was more than accommodating. The service was stellar. But the real star of the night was the food.
From the roasted chicken, to the salmon tartar, to the redneck egg rolls (amazing pulled pork!), to the side of lima beans - everything I tasted was fantastic. All the food was cooked to order and everyone seemed really please with the steak entrees. The only complaint from the table was the the sweet potato mash was too sweet. Amazing Night!"

"The service was extremely slow, they used the excuse the resturant was crowded- dugh, it was a Saturday night. Waited long time to get something and a long time in between. Food was ok, nothing special for the price. Wait staff not very friendly to anyone. Not a good experience."

"I found that the food in my opinion was average for a restaurant of this caliber. The reviews I read did not match the quality. I was disappointed, but had a wonderful evening. The service was somewhat attentive and could have been better. The food as far as the time intervals between courses could have been better."

"My wife and I returned to PG after several several months of other restaurants and again enjoyed our "dining out" evening. As always, the service is of the highest standard and the atmosphere is inviting.
Just a comment... the service and atmosphere far exceeded the entree I had. The ribeye plate came with hugh portions but was all brown. The meat was brown, the potatoes were brown, and the mushrooms were brown. No vegetables were served and the idea of "presentation" was completely missed."

"We were really looking forward to our dinner at Port Land Grille. The cheese appetizer was quite good, but both entrees were unenjoyable. The veal tenderloin at $39 was the biggest disappointment as the meat was not tender and too many other flavors overwhelmed the palate. The duck entree .... well aside from the occasional tender piece of duck meat, again the other flavors were much too strong and rich. Overall disappointed with our dining experience."

"Our dinner at Portland Grill was great! The filet was one of the best I've had anywhere and the lobster rolls were amazing. I would have given 5 stars for food but we found shells in both the lobster roll and crabcake. Other than that everything was superb! Our server was very informative and attentive but we did wait almost 10 minute for the initial greeting. It was a busy Saturday night and we understood the wait. We look forward to returning!"

"This fine restaurant always turns out delicious meals made from fresh premium ingredients. The seared duck breast served with cherry sauce over coconut flavored black forbidden rice was phenomenal. The steak tartare appetizer was more than ample for two. It contain coarse chopped filet mignon garnished with pickled okra and gherkins, capers, onions, mustard and sharp cheese with a more than ample supply of crostinis. The filet mignon was perfectly cooked medium rare and almost fork tender. The restaurant has an excellent wine list, augmented by an extensive and very intriguing dessert liquor menu, including, single malt scotches, brandies, ports and dessert wines. All top shelf!"

"No one manned the entrance and we were kept waiting for 10-15 minutes although we had a reservation. Everyone on the staff seemed distracted. As requested, we were given a quiet table, but then a group of four men were seated next to us. They talked so loudly and constantly that we could not converse. The waiter was inattentive and often absent. He forgot one drink order and had to ask us again what we wanted. The food was OK, but not worth the exorbitant prices, especially the $39 veal dish. The pate was good."

"We've been going to Port Land Grille for several years now and it is always a pleasant experience. The staff is very friendly, courteous and professional. The food is phenominal and there is something on the menu for everyone's particular tastes. The atmosphere and decor' is very nice; semi-casual, comfortable and relaxed. We very much enjoy going to Port Land Grille and highly recommend it to fellow residents or anyone who frequents the area."

"The food was excellent. Very Unique. The only issue is that we specifically went to try their lamb chops and after we ordered the appetizers, they told us they had everything EXCEPT lamb.
The drinks were great as well as the wine selection.
Seating is not very "Romantic" because there is not booth seating and it's a little open, but they seem to make it work. This is a great place for dinner any night of the week."

"Everything we tasted was amazing. Our server made sure everything came out with excellent timing as well so the table wasn't crowded with food getting cold.
The service was still fast even though they were slammed for Valentine's Day. I was really impressed.
Once again, the food is the best I have had in Wilmington. It's better than Ruth's Chris and Port City Chop House, both of which I have frequented.
Port Land Grille is perfect for a nice date night or special occasion- I will be returning very soon."

"Our Valentine's Day dinner was our first visit to Port Land Grille. Viewing the website, reviewing the menu and reading the reviews gave us a pretty good idea of what to expect but it turned out that the Port Land Grille exceeded our expectations in every way! The service is exceptional and attentive without being intrusive. The food is top notch all the way. I highly recommend the lobster sliders. My taste buds are still somewhere in coastal Bar Harbor, Maine! Check this restaurant out. I promise you will be glad you did!"

"Port Land never disappoints. Their service and food selection and quality always rank at the very top of our restaurant list.
The most exceptional feature of the place is their constant outstanding level of service and food; superior is their norm. I am always amazed at this very welcome feature.
This is by far the best restaurant in Wilmington and is competitive with the finest that major cities have to offer."

"I don't like to complain or send back anythng, but her is the honest opinion of our evening. The host/owner maybe was very cordial and energetic. Great first impression. The server that poured our water about soaked me. Her head was somewhere else and not focussing on pouring a simple glass of water. Our regular server was very snobbish. No personality. Sometimes you don't know who you are waiting on or who owns what, but if my staff acted the way they did the door would hit them hard on the way out. Still tipped over 20% but not deserving. The food was tasteful. I had the pork chops and they were a bit over powering with the glaze. The steak was great and seafood delicious. I would recommend only if they had a better staff."

"Food was not as good as prior visits. Grilled fish was poorly seasoned (tasted nothing but smoke) but scallop appetizer was OK as long as we didn't use a very salty au poivre sauce that our server wisely had served on the side because of prior complaints from other diners."

"Wonderful tuna, just rare enough & tender. The spinach was delicious, not over cooked or swimming in butter or oil. We had the potato chips to start with & they are addictive. Since it was my birthday I had the coconut cake. The filling was too cream cheesy and the cake was dry & a bit tough. The portions are a good size but I wouldn't order too many side dishes. The ambiance was marred by a very loud foursome next to the window. Our server - wish I had gotten her name -- was the best. My husband wasn't feeling well so she packed up what we hadn't eaten quickly. She was friendly & attentive. The hostess was overbearing. Before we could even get seated she asked us did we want water, bottled or from the tap several times."

"Making the reservation and food-wise the Port Land Grille was fine. We just didn't care for our waiter. Not attentive and really made us feel like we were a nuisance to him. He did mention to us that there were two things on the menu that they were out of, and there was another one but he forgot what it was. So, after spending time looking over the menu, we were ready to order and what I had choose they were out of. I guess that was the third thing he forgot to mention. I would say it is a restaurant for a special occasion because it is pricey. We probably would not go back. Too many other places that are better."
