"Took a group of colleagues to dinner here. This place was recommened by a family member as excellent food at a good price. It was just that. The spanish-style cuisine was excellent as each of us had something different. The roasted corn soup was very creamy and tasty. I had the almond encrusted red snapper and it was prepared perfectly. The salads all looked good as well. The wine selection included a favorite spanish wine at a reasonable price. It was very quiet and just a few other tables with guests. Not sure if this was a typical night (Wednesday @ 8pm)"

"Great evening. Started with Bourbon sour that was custom crafted. Texas Goat Cheese crapes were excellent. Amberjack fish was full of flavor and cooked just right. End your dinner with the moose and Coffee Boom Boom."

"This is an all-around great place! I'd be back more often if Houston didn't have so many wonderful places to eat! I guess I'll just have to work out a little bit more and make the effort to visit more frequently because the food is fantastic and the portions incredible! Remember, it's ok to share."

"On a Friday night, we were one of only 5 tables at this Midtown spot strategically located on the MetroRail on Main at Alabama. We had a mostly good experience with mostly good food. Starters included a very tasty black bean soup and a trio of empanaditas [chicken, bean and ground beef] that were a little too doughy for my tastes. Entrees were the outstanding [and bountiful] snapper and the chimichuri sauced pork tenderloin. I'm not sure whether it was the chimichuri, the sauteed spinach or the maduros that created a pool of butter in the middle of the plate, but it was a little bit much. Still a tasty dish all in all.
Only real disappointment wasa reduction in the wine list.-- now only 5 bottles of white -- way less than the website."

"This was a return visit after a very long time. Had the opotunity to ride the train from the medical center on a lark. Appetizers fried oysters and ceviche were outstanding. Plantain crusted snap-per wnderful and large enough portion to share."

"My only comment is that the chairs are not very comfortable. However the food, service, atmosphere, drinks, and overall experience keeps me coming back again and again! But the chairs make it hard to stay too long."

"We were headed to the theatre and needed prompt service. The service and food was excellent. We made it to the show at the Ensemble Theatre (across the street) in record time."

"Had an early lunch with 2 colleagues. Tortilla soup was unremarkable. The lobster bisque was tasty, but a little heavy on the cream. Ordered salad with raspberry vinaigrette dressing. Dressing very thick and heavy, was not pourable. Goat cheese heavily "dumped" on top of spinach. Definitely would not recommend this salad. Have come here before and was impressed with the quality--taste and presentation. Disappointed with this visit. Valet parking--tips only. Valet was attentive and helpful. Because party ahead of us was totally engaged in showing photos on their i-phones, valet graciously brought our car first. Appreciated his awareness and speed."

"This is the perfect little spot to enjoy a quiet dinner with that special someone. The pecan crusted snapper and lobster bisque was superb! I will definitely dine here again."

"I was a little worried given some of the reviews, but Julia's Bistro was a pleasant surprise and a great place for us to have a good Friday night dinner. They are set up a little different from other restaurants in that you get to pick the sides you get with your entree. Their chipotle mashed potatoes were so good! For entrees, I had the scallops which were cooked very well and flavorful. The sauce definitely had a lot of saffron, which at times was a little overwhelming, but it was still a very good dish. My husband had the filet, which was cooked to his liking and very flavorful. Their bread pudding was a great dessert, though the ice cream was all melted! The service was very friendly and willing to answer questions."

"Didn't ask how I wanted my filet done. Asked for Medium Rare and got Medium. Never offered anything additional after we finished our wine. Had a fixed menu when I went that was not a good value, I wouldn't have bothered if they would have told me when I called and confirmed to ask. The items on the fixed menu were boring (2 shrimp with garnish, small boring salad that could have come from a bag, filet or snapper, and a slice of chocolate pie or some strawberry shortcake). I won't be returning which is too bad as I really want this area to keep developing."

"This was our second Valentine's Day at Julia's Bistro and both were great for the same reasons. The fixed price menu was appealing to everyone and was very reasonably priced. The atmosphere was quiet and relaxed and there was no rush to move guests in and out. All of the employees were friendly and accomodating and the wait staff was very attentive. The Filet with the Fig/wine reduction was done to a perfect "Medium" and was excellent, as was the Snapper. Both had very unique and appealing Latin flavors. All in all it was a perfect Valentine's Day experience."
