Tinto, an expression used to describe red wine served in pintxos bars throughout Northern Spain, is the ultimate expression of what a Basque wine bar should be. "We went for Mother's Day brunch. The menu was prix fix menu wsa varied and they were good at letting us pick out some dishes for our 4 year old. The food was tasty. But I felt we were an inconvenience to the wait staff. My wife had questions. Our waiter answered one of them and tried to hurry off saying he'd give us more time to look things over. He had no patience for us (and with the amount we dine out, I know it wasn't us). The food came very slowly with us waiting 20 minutes to get our appetizer and another 20 after we finished it to get our sides (which came out several minutes before our entree with no plates to eat off of).
I like the food, but wouldn't go back after being treated so poorly."

"Food and table service were excellent as usual. The hostess however, was extremely rude and basically asked us to clear the table after an hour and a quarter, even though the tables near us had emptied and nobody seemed to be waiting for a table. My friend, who owns a restaurant was shocked!"

"I took my mom to Tinto to celebrate Mother's Day. I had been once before with my girlfriend and we had the "deluxe" tasting menu ($75 each vs. $55 each). It was phenomenal - each plate was thoughtfully prepared and explained by our waitress.
I wanted to replicate that experience with my mom so we ordered the same deluxe tasting menu and the wine pairing. Typically when I really enjoy a restaurant the second time I go doesn't match up. This was not the case - everything was either just as good or better. It is a true "tour" of the menu and well worth the $75. I could go on and on about each dish (10 each), but I will say the duck wrapped in Serrano ham and fried in duck fat was a friendly assault on the taste buds.
What an experience."

"I would have given this more stars because the food was great. Unfortunately for us we were sat at a small bar table and when we wanted a different table we were told that it was the only one available for us even though we saw open tables for two people. Having said that the service was good. The bar area was just really crowded."

"Great experience, and while the food was outstanding, the service left a bit to be desired. After a quick barrage of courses, we were left to sit without a single course for nearly 40 minutes. It took a call to our waiter to get more food and the balance of what we had previously ordered. A small blemish to what is otherwise a fantastic experience."

"It was my 2nd time at Tinto. Went back this time with different friends, hoping the food would be as wonderful as the first time and it absolutely was! We had the premium tasting menu and it was worth every penny. Just when we thought we couldn't eat another delicious bite, the waiter delivered an awesome dessert and we devoured that, too. Highly recommend Tinto! Hats off to the chef and the kitchen crew."

"My wife and I took a weekend retreat to Philadelphia to go to the Philadelphia Orchestra and have a relaxing time. All was met in addition to going to Tinto and having an AMAZING dining experience there. TInto is a tapas bar/restaurant and I do recommend that when going that you go with the idea of sharing. All items are presented in small plate form with fantastic presentations. I can't wait to go back to try more things."

"The chef's combinations of flavors and textures were so pleasing that they were entertaining. We truly enjoyed each plate, and as our server had indicated four each (that were all shared) were quite satisfying. The service was outstanding, well orchestrated, and never left us wanting for having something delicious in front of us. The kitchen must also be run by a deft hand to have each plate prepared and ready to be served with just the right timing.
We loved the subtle decor in the lower dining room, and meant to check out the bar area, but had a play to attend directly afterwards. We're sure it was lovely and welcoming as well.

"I took my girlfriend here for her birthday. Overall we were pleased with our first visit here. The food was great, although slightly overpriced. They have a great wine list with a small selection of cocktails. The service was good overall. Very friendly, attentive server. He did forget to bring out one of the items we ordered and also brought out the wrong item on a second occasion. It is tapas so we had plenty of food and weren't waiting long at a for the dishes to come out. He offered to comp the last item right away which was good by me. It was on the loud side, but that didn't bother me. It's a small place with a cool ambience. I would recommend it if you get the chance."

"Tinto is always great but Saturday night the food seemed better than ever. Just go with the tasting menu. Both the standard and the deluxe tasting are terrific. We had deluxe this time and it was worth the extra $20. The Old Fashioned was also one of the best I've ever had."

"We had tix to a play near Rittenhouse Sq and Open Table lead us to this nearby restaurant. My wife always likes small plates and many tastes, so I knew she would enjoy the tapas menu. We had no idea how good it would be!! As first time diners, we tried the tasting menu and the waiter accommodated my wife's special requests. Each dish was artfully presented and well prepared. We loved the delightful surprises that just kept coming. Next time we will order ourselves, because there are more dishes on the menu we want to try and we would certainly order less food."

"Honestly, wasn't terribly impressed. My date and I had the tasting menu and opted to do the upcharge for "premium items". There honestly wasn't much premium about it. First course was a cheese plate and I believe some
Jamón ibérico, followed by an extremely dry octopus dish that lacked flavor and texture. The only dish I really recall standing out was duck wrapped in I believe it was prosciutto. The service was fine, honestly not great. Server didn't know what rye they had in house, didn't properly pace the meal.

All in all, I was pretty disappointed - typically I have really great experiences at JG restaurants but this was not one of them. Based on the selection of the tasting menu we would have been better off ordering a la carte."

"e ordered the cheese mixto, the duck canape, the crab canape, the octopus, the green beans, and the scallops. The cheese was great. We didn't specify which we wanted, I just asked for one soft, one medium, and one hard. We enjoyed every bite, and appreciated the accompaniments, too. I wasn't too impressed with the canapes. My husband really liked the duck. The crab didn't really taste like crab. I could tell it was seafood, but if I hadn't known it was crab, I wouldn't have thought it was crab. The octopus was very tasty and so were the green beans (though they did have a bit too much dressing on them). The scallops: YUM! If I hadn't been so full by the time we finished the scallops, I would've ordered another plate. They were that good."

"What a great restaurant.. another to check off of the Garces Group's list of deliciousness. Had a reservation for two here as my fiancee had won a raffle for a tasting menu for two. Came in a bit early for our reservation, so we decided to enjoy the bar for about 20 minutes. Great fully stocked bar with a few beers on draught, as expected. Tasting menu comprised of over 10 short courses, all different but full of flavor in their own way. My fiancee had tried the duck confit at a Garces-hosted event and was hoping it was included in the tasting menu. It wasn't, but a simple request to our server and he said he could make it happen with the kitchen! Great food, great service, great place for a date."

"Took my mother here for her birthday and everything was delicious. The sangria all the tapas we had, and the dessert, was really an excellent dining experience. The waiting staff were great and even though there was a wait they were very courteous. Would definitely recommend for a special event, a date, or a place to splurge on yourself (and your taste buds)"

"It was ok, not great not bad. Because i enjoyed Amada so much I was looking to be wowed. A couple of items were terrific...the turbot and arugula sald for example. The pork dish was average and the dessert was unacceptable.
It was a nice place and the wait staff and service were fine. I said i wouldn't recommend because there are so many choices in that price range."

"I am from the SF Bay Area and have been to Tintos now twice. The first time was by chance while with colleagues while at a conference. I actively arranged my schedule this time to make sure I could make it -- even though it meant eating alone (well, not quite alone as the place was packed!) at the Bar. The food was great both times. The menu is diverse with many small plates, so it is better to go with a larger party of folks so you can try more of it! Good wine list as well.
I will definitely plan to go again on my next visit."
