Hersh's celebrates the foods of Italy and the craft of the American bartender. Our menu of fresh, ingredient-driven dishes includes rustic Italian small plates and award-winning housemade pasta, as well as Neapolitan pizza featuring housemade mozzarella and sausage. Our booze program focuses on vintage cocktails, craft brews and spirits and a tightly-edited wine list offering varietals you won't see every day. Come hungry, come thirsty and come often!
"Although the food was good, the menu listed online was not what was being served on Saturday night. My wife had asked if a couple of the entres could be modified to her liking. All answers came back as NO. If you are not in the mood for pizza you may have a problem with the rest of the menu. Food was good, but if you are going to have a funcky menu you need to be able to have some flexibility"

"I had been there previously and was not happy with my pizza b/c the crust was so thin that it just got soggy. So, I tried one of the pastas this time. It was way too salty."

"We had excellent food at Hersch's, but the wait for each order was LONG and the restaurant was not busy that night. Two apps, two pizzas, two desserts, and we were there for just over 90 minutes. Everything took too long.
That being said, the food was really wonderful -- the stuffed artichokes and the funghi pizza in particular. We were there on half-price wine night, and a $14 bottle is rare in Baltimore.
It's all a good value, but I doubt I would go back because of the length of wait and the location -- tucked in a difficult corner of town with no parking."

"First time to the restaurant on a loud Sunday night (via one group of people sitting at the bar). We sat downstairs .. the restaurant is very nice looking (hip and current). Service was very good; our server was well versed. The menu is a perfect size, food on one side, drinks on the other and there was a very eclectic mix of things. The appetizers were very good (fried calamari, fennel salad, chickpeas). Everyone liked their pizza but I didn't care for it; looking forward to trying a pasta dish next time (pizza crust was thick and had too much char for my tastes; would rather be able to eat the whole pie than leave all that crust on the plate) (Neapolitan must be an acquired taste)."

"I would be happy if all Hersh's served was their terrific pizza and beer--but their menu goes far beyond that. Great creativity in appetizers, salads, and entrees. Quiet setting and attentive service. We loved it!"

"I recently went to Hersh's for a group birthday dinner and was not disappointed! The stuffed artichokes, lima bean crostini, rockfish small plate and Abruzzo pizza (with housemade sausage) were all so wonderful that we ordered some of them twice! We also had an excellent cheese plate, a pasta course, several cocktails - we couldn't stop ordering and will definitely be going back. Delicious food & drinks + friendly service + extremely reasonable prices (especially for the quality) = get yourself to the south end of Light St and eat some Hersh's immediately."

"We had a great time. The calamari we had was the most delicate I've ever tasted. Cheese and pasta was also prepared masterfully. I wasn't impressed with the pizza though, but I can be a tough customer when it comes to that being a native New Yorker. Overall, we will definitely be back."

"My hubby & I met our son & his girlfriend for dinner at 6 pm. We thought we had missed the place at first because it's all the way at the end of Light Street. Nice neighborhood & found on street parking right away. It's good not to be in the thick of Fed Hill. Waitress was friendly & attentive. Happy hour is 2 beers mix & match or a nicely priced glass of wine. Pizza had fresh ingredients & tasty. One app & 1 pie was enough for 2 people. Excellent house made tart for dessert along with ice cream. Yum. We will be back."

"Really like Hersh's and was bringing friends for their 1st time. Food was great! Service was flat. Our waitress was not interested in telling us anything about the dishes; had to be prompted to tell the specials and at times disappeared for long stretchs. Place wasn't totally full and yet the food tood very long to come out. Usually a 4-5 star night...but not this time. bummer."

"Really disappointing. The prosciutto balls, tasted like fried ricotta. The mushrooms from the wood fire oven were a very small portion served with two miniscule pieces of bread. the braised chickpeas were the best thing, and they were only ok but the focaccia served with them was way too buttery, especially taking into account that the chickpeas were in oil. the pizza we ordered came with a pool of grease in the middle. I took two bites and couldn't eat anymore. the décor and ambience are very nice. I would try it again if they got a new chef."

"The only disapointment was sitting upstairs. It lacked any ambiance and was waaaay too loud. My husband and I had to shout so the other could hear us. They need to do something to soften then noise. On another note, the food was great. I got the chopped salad which was delicious and not heavy. I got the funghi pizza and my husband got the sausage with roast tomatoes. Both were great!! Also, the wine delicious and the service couldn't be better."

"I really liked the downstairs area with a really nice bar. Upstairs was a little less inviting, still pretty but had no ambiance. Now, for the important part, the food: we shared a plate of Prosciutto Balls and a portion of Chicken Skin, both were good, well, you know, it's fried food that's all it is. The pizzas were quite good, the base was absolutely excellent. Unfortunately the ratio of crust to pizza was rather large, resulting in a quite "dry" experience. If I lived nearby I would probably give them another go, but since I live in Canton for me is not worth the drive. I will stick to Verde here in Canton, easier (for me) to get to and a much better pizza."

"This place is a real gem. Excellent food, good beer and cocktail menu and a very hip, happening decor. The small plates were great. Fiddle-head ferns in a butter vinaigrette were lovely and cooked perfectly. The chickpeas came in a bubbling ramekin of rosemary scented oil and goat cheese. The waitress recommended we save some of the leftover oil to dip our pizza crust. A great idea. The pizzas are delicious. Paper thin with a nicely chewy and slightly salty crust. Perfectly cooked. This is a great place for two people on a date since or a group looking for a fun spot to start the night. Definitely going back to Hersh's when I'm in Baltimore again!"

"I think we found our local Fed Hill Pizza joint! Great service, our server knew so much about the wine and gave me great suggestions. Order the mussels and save the butter sauce to dip your crust into later...Delicious!!"

"My wife and I are from Queens, NY and since moving to Maryland many years ago, we are always on a "pizza quest". I must say that the pizza at Hersh's was the best by far we have had since living in the Baltimore area. The crust was thin and crisp, the sauce perfectly seasoned and the cheese was wonderful. We will be back often."

"Again, another amazing meal at Hersh's! We started with two incredible cocktails - and they take their cocktail-making seriously. It is truly a craft that you are passionate about. We enjoyed a Bob Roy (a take on a Rob Roy with a little kick of crushed red pepper) and a Mellow Mood (bourbon, fresh squeezed grapefruit juice, honey and IPA). Both were soooo good! We sat at the bar and had dinner there. We shared the Calamari Fritti and the Mushroom Pizza. Your pizza crust is stuff dreams are made of! I think I need to move to Federal Hill so I can eat here every night!"

"I absolutely love this place. Great cocktails, great food, great service, and great price point. What more can you ask. Four of us shared the mussels, cauliflower, meatballs and prosciutto balls and could not decide which we loved more. The kale and pistachio pizza was divine. Not to be missed, the frangipane tart, this self-proclaimed sweet lover declares this one of the best desserts ever! Just an adorable place with an earnest, well-trained staff. If I lived in this neighborhood, I would be going here weekly!"

"This was our first visit to Hersh's and we had a very pleasant meal. The host and the waitress were very warm and attentive. We took the waitress's advice and ordered the mussels and the prosciutto cheese small-plates. They were excellent. The main courses were very good too, especially the pork cheeks dish. I would go back just for that. We had nice but rather expensive wine. We will probably go back again, but would drink beer and save about twenty dollars."

"Wonderful cocktails and service. We had a small plate of shrimp and calamari with crostini which was great. We were a tad disappointed in the pizza. The crust was soggy upon arrival and it was very salty, but this could have been the meat toppings. We had a gear waitress who was trying to manage too many tables and was very apologetic. We will def. return for a cocktail and some small plates."
