Le Vallauris
Established in the heart of Palm Springs since 1973, Le Vallauris located at the foot of San Jacinto Mountains has been the highest rated restaurant in the Palm Springs Valley since its inception. Owned and operated by the well known restaurateur Paul Bruggemans who was also owner of the Famous Le St Germain restaurant in Hollywood. The Historic Landmark was built in 1927 and was owned by the owners of the famous Desert Inn which was The hotel in the Valley. Many grand parties were held in the house for guests such as Duke Ellington, Nat King Cole, Louis Armstrong and many more. It was a favorite place for General Patton when he was based in Palm Springs to stage the Battle of the Bulge during World War II. Later on, when the restaurant was established it became a favorite place for Presidents and the Hollywood elite. The renowned Patio lined with Giant Fichus trees is THE place to dine. The Patio is cooled in the Summer and heated in the Winter.

"We dined on our second night in Palm Springs. The restauarnt is on a quiet street and easily accessible. The outdoor space could not have been nicer. And even though we were coming off of a 100 degree plus day, we were kept cool by the air conditioned patio."

"A true treasure of Palm Springs. The food, service and ambience is always great. One suggestion - it would be good to allow those that arrive early in the evening, prior to 90% of the other guests, to have some preference in seating. This is our second time where the restaurant was 90% empty and we were given a less than desirable table. Not a good situation when you are there to have an enjoyable evening and spend money."

"We were recommended Le Vallauris by multiple people familiar with Palm Springs dining, and it was with good reason. The ambiance is classic, old-Hollywood kitsch with a whimsical edge. The dining room is a wonderfully unique indoor/outdoor concoction, with tables situated under an enormous tree, tiny white lights and walls of clear plexiglass. It's beautiful. The food is classic French, but not stuffy or heavy. We enjoyed multiple courses, including a lovely smoked fish plate, fresh oyster, a bright and sweet spring pea soup, heavenly roast chicken, lamb chops and filet mignon. The service was friendly, courteous and attentive. Love this place."

"We planned to have our last meal in Palm Springs at Le Vallauris, which is now our favorite restaurant. Patrice, the quintessential maitre d', came by our table between courses to see how we were doing. Our waiter, Carlos, couldn't have been more courteous, knowledgeable and friendly. The menu is quite extensive and diverse...something for everyone. Service was impeccable and unobtrusive. Our meals were delicious: the white fish and the special grouper. We enjoyed ourselves so much, we lingered over a couple after dinner drinks. A lovely piano player was in the bar. We took advantage of that to dance between courses. Only half the men wore jackets (no ties); the dress was generally smart casual. Overall, a wonderful dining experience!"

"Can you say romantic, delicious, romantic?
We were in the desert to celebrate our second honeymoon and 15th wedding anniversary. The staff, chef and piano player made our evening incredibly memorable. We were treated with care and not rushed.
The food - I had rack of lamb which was exquisite and pure in its taste. My husband had the halibut and kept trying to get the recipe.
The weather was perfect, warm gentle breezes and twinkling lights.
We'll be back next year."

"Although the price is high, the food, the ambience and the service make it worth the cost. The only concern was that the sweet potato accompaniment to my wife's exceelent duck entree was cold.When we mentioned this to the owner's brother who was making the rounds of the tables, he was uncomfortable and hastened to the next table. It would seem that a more appropriate response would hane been in order at such a fine establishment."

"The patio is such a beautiful setting! There is varied menu with many entrees to choose from. My husband had the escargot as an appetizer which was amazing. I had th echargrilled filet with wine reduction sauce It came with mashed potatoes and vegetables amazingly seasoned. My husband had the halibut with honey ginger lemon marinade which was unusual and delicious. The best for last was the grande marnier soufflé, Excellent meal, excellent setting."

"For our second visit to La Vallauris we were just as impressed with the food; indeed even more so. The restaurant was VERY VERY busy and the service slowed as a result. For example, it took about 10 minutes for someone to ask if we wanted a drink or wine and then the server did not return for another 10 minutes to follow-up. Our meals came much later after ordering this second visit but were worth the wait.

"What can I say about Le Vallauris? We had a wonderful evening. We had a table outside under the trees. The evening temperature was just about perfect. The staff was great and the food very good.
We had the Degustation menu: a small trio of appetizers including Ahi shashimi in a paper thin pastry cone, a small dollop of caviar and a ball of deep fried cheese. Next was seared scallops 4 each in in a lovely sauce. Then a trio of duck (paté, a tiny duck burger with a meringue bun, and slices of duck). Also wonderful. The entrees were great. My wife had the lobster and I the venison tournedos. The portions were more than generous. Definitely a great place in Palm Springs"

"We have eaten at a number of French restaurants including those in Paris. This was as comparable as those in France. Other than not being in Paris, the cuisine and atmosphere was comparable. It is "our" place when we return to Palm Springs. Mr. Vallauris circulates the room very elegantly. An experience to be repeated. My wife said it reminded her of Laurents on Champs. Enough said."

"An off night for service. I booked reservation on OT and although our table was ready, waited in the bar for another couple to arrive. Upon their arrival we had no table. Once seated we waited for a server to arrive. And waited. Finally one of the owners, very nice, helped us. He took our drink order, two of which came back wrong. Our dinner order was taken after which we sat and waited. We are fairly well travelled and never expect fast food and immediate service, but our beverages and water were empty for about 20 minutes with no one stopping to check on us. We flagged down another server to see exactly who was in charge of our table, concerned our food order was not placed. Our food did arrive, and was excellent. No defined server!"

"One of the last grand restaurants. I do miss there table de haut menu which they dumped for a chalk board menu a few years ago. Trying to keep up with Nouvelle, California cuisine. Myself I like the old school because no one does it any more. But great food and service all the way around. The good wines start at 150.00 so bring your wallet. One of my favorite spots. Can't go wrong with the duck. Nothing to complain about here except some of the guests have there nose's in the air.......Ray David Estero Bay Gourmet Consulting Grp."

"This is a very elegant restaurant. If you appreciate french food you will appreciate this spot. You will be disappointed if you are in the mood for anything BUT french food. The servers are very knowledgeable but no stuffy airs here. Be adventurous and you will be rewarded. Be aware - good food like this is not inexpensive but don't worry it is worth the extra!"

"I visited with my wife. The food was excellent, we were disappointed with the service that did in no way compare with the food or the setting and expectation based on the reviews. The level of noise was higher than expected - loud laughter and cheers, disruptive of the intended fine dining. Obviously, this is not the restaurant's fault, hence, we' ll try it again focussing on the excellent cuisine."

the latest hip restaurant, we found Le Vallurius to be a fine dining oasis of expertly prepared food, with quality ingredients. We just didn't want to leave this restaurant."

"We have been here several times and this was our least inspired visit. It was a busy Friday night and the floor staff and the kitchen just seemed a bit overwhelmed. One of Our lobster dishes was brought out cold...not a good thing for a $45 entree. Service from the kitchen was slow and our waiter seemed to have trouble understanding what we were ordering. We will give this normally excellent spot another shot, perhaps on a not so busy night."

"The food was strictly ok. We ordered the rack of lambs that was supposed to be in a harissa reduction (Moroccan spice) but it lacked the harissa flavor entirely. The crispy roasted duck was good, a bit dry. The taste of egg whites in the Guayaquil chocolate souffle overpowered the chocolate entirely. All in all, not worth the price tag."

"This was our 3rd time at Le Vallauris, and it was wonderful as usual. BUT we forgot to ask for patio seating, and had to sit inside on a perfect desert night. OUR goof! so don't YOU forget to reserve a patio table. Waitstaff is top notch, food excellent. We did give 4 stars this time, though, as the Blue Crab appetizer had grapefruit in it instead of the fennel as it was told to us. We informed our waiter, who apologized. However, I did eat everything else in the dish.(I am not fond of grapefruit and would not have orderd it if I had known). Other than that, the evening was a nice transport to mini-France and we will absolutely go again. We recommend it wholeheartedly to anyone wanting a special dining experience"

"Wonderful. This was a great experience. The ambiance was spectacular, the food was superb, and it was a nice touch to have the owner wandering from table to table welcoming guests and thanking them for dining. The outdoor patio was just beautiful from the flowers on the table to the live trees and the beautiful landscape lighting. The food was first rate. We had the price fixe menu with the wines included. It was well worth it. We truly enjoyed ourselves and would highly recommend this restaurant. We will be back."

"We have been going to Le Vallauris for many years, mainly for special occasions. We were surprised and a bit disappointed last saturday when we went there for my husband's birthday. The service was not up to its excellent standards. We had two different waiters servicing our table, it seemed that neither had the time to devote to our table, with a very rushed and abrupt attitude. We had long delays between our courses. We will not rush back in the future."
