Located in the Sunset & Vine Building in the heart of Hollywood, Chef David Lentz & crew have been serving up quality seafood since 2005. "A very positive experience, for going on a Mother's Day, well managed restaurant, excellent food and service, in spite of a Mother's day, they didn't run out of stuff, etc. Honored reservations on time. However, I probably wouldn't recommend to a friend on the basis of compared to comparable restaurants serving similar dishes, I feel they are overpriced, that's the only negative, every else is positive."

"We shared a terrific cheese plate and some grilled asparagus at the Hungry Cat, before heading to a film. The five cheeses were perfect and excellent, each different and freshly prepared, and accompanied by a lovely basket of grilled toast and some delicious almonds and honeycomb. We had asked for a quiet-ish table, and were given one (the waiter even informed us that a big party was coming to sit outside, so he would not out us out there with them!). Service was perfect and unintrusive."

"Have been going to the Hungry Cat since it opened. The food is great and the staff is even better. I can't afford to eat there as often as I'd like but when I get a night out, I have never gone wrong here. The menu is limited and wide-ranging at the same time, everything is prepared well and the staff, some of whom have been there for years, are people I look forward to seeing, even if all we do is chitchat about the food and drinks."

"While we really enjoyed the food and our meal, we walked away feeling like it was very expensive for what it was. The $25 lobster roll was tiny. The halibut entree for $33 was very pricey in the casual environment and for the size of the piece fo fish... and I'm not a big eater. While it was good, I don't think we'd go back; we'll save those pricey meals for fancier places."

"Had a great experience! Came here before for a friend's birthday and returned again since I loved the freshness of the food. Ordered the 'two tier' each time...it's a must try! I loved that it was served on ice so it stayed chilled throughout the meal. If this is your first raw bar experience the Hungry Cat will definitely deliver! It's a hidden gem since it's tucked away, and it's a perfect ambiance for a date."

"Sorry to say: This is three visits in a row at differing times and days where the food just wasn't what it used to be. Flavors muddy, fish tonight was almost burnt on one side and ok on the other. Ordered the fish of the day (grilled tilapia) sea bass and a squid ink pasta. There were so many ingredients and flavors that they all competed with each other. As on past visits, the veggies and starches behind the fish were just plain over cooked and mashed together. This used to be my favorite spot, but alas, no more. Sorry Cat, I'm going elsewhere."

"My husband wanted oysters for his birthday and did not want to drive to SM or the South Bay, or downtown to the Water Grill for that matter. So I went on Open Table and took a leap of faith with the Hungry Cat. We were a party of 4 and had a BLAST. Service was friendly and efficient, knowledgeable and very helpful waitress. Ordered the two tier seafood tower and I wish I could post a photo of it here. (We did on Facebook). Delish!!!!! Seafood fresh, tasty, great combination of oysters, lobster, king crab, mussels, clams and caviar. That and a salad, big enough to share, was enough for a fine dinner for two. Our friends ordered the grits and prawns having lived for awhile in New Orleans. Great drinks too. Exceeded expectations."

"The restaurant is tucked behind a competing venue that has closed down, and across the walkway from a Walgreen's entrance. Despite the unusual location, this place is a real find. We have now been twice for early dinners before Saturday night shows at The Pantages. The drinks, food and service have been great each time. I'm certain we will go again."

"The food was good but the service was not up to par. It took literally 20 minutes for our desert from the preset menu to arrive at our table. I couldn't even find our waiter to ask him to check up on our desert. I totally understand it was valentine's day and they were probably busier than mormal days, but the restaurant wasnt even close to being full. The outside patio only had a few patrons. I waited 3 years to take my girlfriend to this restaurant and we finally did it this year for valentine's day. Sorry but we will probably will not come back here again or recommend this place to our friends. Also, the tables are too close to one another, it feels so claustrophobic .Oh, and parking is a ripoff even with validation."

"Our overall experience here was great. I made reservations earlier in the day so we didn't have any problem getting a table inside and out of the cold.
They leave a bottle full of chilled water on the table so you can refill your own glass, something I came to appreciate in France and have been waiting for US restaurants to start doing for a while now.
Our waitress was attentive and polite. The food was great. I'm particular about food for dietary reasons (gluten) and their menu, although smallish, has a wide variety of food to choose from. The Chorizo and seafood bowl I ordered was great.
We had a problem with our bill at the end of the night but it was easily and quickly corrected.
A great experience overall."

"Being from san Francisco, I love to check out new places when traveling. Hungry Cat is really kinda trendy, cutting edge like...patrons look more like Berkley or Mission than LA! I loved that. Food was excellant, not too pricey but would be if the location was higher rent!

"I choose to sit outside since the indoor noise level was fairly loud. Their outdoor seating is very closely spaced, but comfortable. I would not recommend having an intimate conversation here. The lighting is very dim. I saw lots of diners hold up their tea candle up to the menu to read it. I didn't need a reading light, but it would have been nice to have been able to discern the delicious food I was eating."

"They did not live up to expectations. We went to dinaLA Restaurant Week and I'm not sure if they put out a sub-par menu or the food is just not that good to begin with. The most disappointing was the fact that they are a seafood restaurant and my fish tasted like chlorine. For the price, service should have been better too."
