"We had been here before and had pretty good service, but the food is what brought us back. This time, the service was attrocious. We made a reservation days in advance, but our party of 2 had to wait 30 min after our reservation to be seated with no apologies. We were basically ignored by the hostess when we arrived who greeted 2 other groups that arrived after us, 1st. Then we had to wait, standing in the restaurant doorway for a half hour .
Whenfinally seated, our server was not at all friendly and immediately told us they were out of bread. She was not attentive all night and did nothing beyond take our order. We had to pour our own bottle of wine and had to ask someone else to bring us bread when seen served to others."

This is not just a meatballs & spaghetti place (although you can order that). We reserved a table for five and it was a very small table next to the entrance. I could reach out and touch the people behind me and across from me. "We had a fabulous meal and a great time at Shells and Sauce. We were celebrating our daughters 24th birthday. The waiter was perfect, personable and attentive. We started with the calamari and bruschetta - yum! Then on to chicken parm, pappardelle bolognese, mushroom ravioli and lobster ravioli -everyone loved their dish! Dessert was tiramisu and a home made pastry with cream and shaved almonds , brought out with a single lit birthday candle and no annoying fanfare! Great experience, we will absolutely go back!"

"We've been to Shells and Sauce before and would definitely recommend it. However, three of the four in our group are on salt restricted diets and, while one night of salt indulgence is no real problem, the fact that we are not used to salt rendered our meal selections unpalatable and unfortunately much of it went to waste. No problem with salt? By all means go. We'd probably even go back and just be more judicious about what we ordered and get some advice from the wait staff, who were excellent."

"This is the 2nd time that we have tried shells and sauce. I love the neighborhood restaurant theme, but the food and service were poor. It was a Sunday night, so I am guessing that the B staff was working (which is no excuse). Our server had no knowledge of the menu or the specials (she had to read them off of the wall).
I ordered the chicken parm, which had zero flavor! I don't even know what. Part of the chicken they served. It was like a 3# chicken breast or something?? I ate 1 bite and left the remainder because it was so bad. When the server picked up our plates, she didn't ask why 99% of the meal was still on the plate. I will never go back to this restaurant.
On the bright side, the cocktails were great."

"The service and the food specials are outstanding, living up to a much higher standard than you might expect from a neighborhood spot. The atmosphere isn't ideal... pretty noisy with tables really close together, but that's understandable given the good food and the desire to meet customer demand. Also, be sure during the winter to have a good warm jacket you can keep on while you eat, 'cause every time the front door is open (often!) the whole room gets a cold breeze. "This was our second time to this great neighborhood place. Very good homemade Italian food. My husband got the Chicken Parm which he said was the best he has had in years and he is very picky. I had the Picatta w/ Salmon which was heavenly. Felt a little rushed by our server when he asked what we wanted for dessert about half way through the meal. Plan on returning again."

"My first time at this restaurant, I probably wouldn't have found it on my own (it was recommended). I enjoyed my dinner, also my sister's plate, brothers plate, and my husbands plate as I took bits off all their plates. My only one minimal complaint would have been, there was no waiting area. An while we were standing in the cold door way waiting to be seated, I watched people come after us to walk right into be seated, giving me the feeling of favoritism by an older gentlemen. Arriving on time for our reservation and we waited and watched people be seated for at lease 15-20. All in all the food was great and made up for the waiting experiance, I am thinking if there was a waiting area I would have never notice everyone else being seated."
