Vie
The first restaurant in Western Springs to serve liquor since prohibition, Vie offers guests the opportunity to experience urban fine dining in a warm, relaxed village setting. Conveniently located steps from the Metra station, Vie attracts food-conscious diners from the entire Chicagoland area. Guests will find sanctuary in the intimate, gracious dining room housed in a two-story red brick building in the center of Norman Rockwell’s Americana. Chef Virant’s cuisine reflects the seasons, local harvests and the world becoming a smaller place. While the menu celebrates artisanal foods and local family farms, it also takes advantage of the increased availability of specialty foods from across the globe. Vie features Seasonal Contemporary American cuisine inspired by Western European cultures and rustic fare. Virant elevates familiar dishes by relying on the simplicity of a few, high-quality ingredients.

"We had a tremendous experience at Vie. We went there because it was my husband's birthday and I wanted to find a restaurant that featured special gin drinks. The bar was great, the special drinks first rate and Hillary, our bartender was gracious and entertaining without being intrusive. Then we had dinner which also exceeded all expectations.
Friends had recommended the place as a great place to go and sit at the bar to have a hamburger. It was much more than that.
We will be back"

"This is restaurant is such a delight every time we go (which is often). The atmosphere is sophisticated and relaxing. I love that diners dress well to come here as the food is worthy! The food...creative without being fussy, deliciously simple and unexpected flavors that surprise over and over. Chef clearly has a passion for his craft. Cocktails are as creative as the food and service is attentive and knowledgable without being intrusive. Perfect."

"We really enjoyed this vist to Vie. We brought my parents for their wedding anniversary, and everything worked well. The service was excellent, the food was amazing, and the staff was very kind with their remembrances of my parents' anniversary. Highly recommend for a festive, special evening, but do be prepared for a big bill. To enjoy drinks, one appetizer, a main and a single dessert to share at the table, you should count on $100 to $125 per person (which includes tax and tip)."

"The chef/owner, Paul Verant, has a remarkable talent and knowledge of food. The dishes here are very upscale American, classically done, but with fresh insights and top top quality. We are foodies, and appreciate this restaurant as one of the favorites in the topmost level.
The knowledge, quality of ingredients, preparation, tastes are just sublime. Any dish surprises and brings great pleasure. Its a very special place.
The bartender makes the most extraordinary drinks - subtle, flavorful, deep tastes that emerge over time. I enjoy anything he makes.
We were there on a Friday night, and had a wonderful time - unlike many city spots, the noise level was just right - you could have a conversation and good food!
Highly recommended."

"Vie has always been a favorite for my wife and I - a definite "city feel" restaurant out here in the 'burbs. When I found out that they were hosting a Mother's day special, I decided to splurge and bring our three boys.
The three-course menu was fun to describe to our kids; however I thought the food itself was somewhat "overdone". The asparagus salad was over-dressed, the gnocchi more of a potato pancake. For the main course, the chicken was visually unappealing but tasty; and again over-sauced. The beef was by far the most attractive to look at and the most subtle with its flavor profile.
Desert was a mixed bag - the chocolate mousse was way too big, as was the donut selection.
We'll be back to Vie - but not for their special occasions."

"My first visit at Vie was one to remember. It had all of the things I love. Locally grown produce (I wish it were organic), grass-fed beef, and gluten-free options. The burger (sans bun) was delish and the amuse bouche was devine. What a way to start your evening! The char and charcuterie was amazing. We also enjoyed a cheese plate to top it all off."

"It's behind Village Hardware, of all places. A bit pricey but not outrageously so. We were originally seated in the room furthest back, which was too noisy for normal conversation, so we asked to be relocated and it was much nicer up front. A few moderately priced wines would have been appreciated, as there were only a couple on the wine list for under $50. We ordered a pinot noir but afrer a long wait were instead served a bordeaux. We didn't want to make an issue of it so we kept it and it was fine. All of the courses were painstakenly prepared with interesting combinations of flavors. The dressing on the house salad is amazing. I would recommend this restaurant for special occasions."

"I am hard pressed to understand how this restaurant is on any body's list of good restaurants in the Chicago area. Granted the service was good, and the ambience was ok, but the food was sub par. I had a pork something. It was certainly big but it was tough and full of fat. The food ordered by my three friends was equally disappointing. And the bill was well over $200. We will never go back."

"We went on a Sunday for a great deal - the $30 per person prix fixe dinner. Choices were excellent and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal and the lovely French wine special as well. Lots of kids were dining and we could hear quite a bit of noise in the main dining room but it didn't bother us in the front room. Nice chance to try this special place for a good price. Excellent service. We will be back."

"As always, Vie hits it out of the park. I wouldn't say we're regulars, but we come here about once every month or so. Choosing an appetizer was difficult, because all the choices looked so, um, appetizing. Scallops, gnocchi, or duck sausage? I was set on the burger, which was perfectly medium, with nice think bacon. As always, Vie gets a 10/10 for me.

"Couldn't have been better. No wonder Vie is a "destination" restaurant in the western suburbs. When we arrived, the hostess was most gracious in changing our table to accommodate an elderly member of our party with limited mobility and did this in such a way as to not embarrass her. Our server, Thierry Menguy, also a wine director at Vie, was most knowledgeable, attentive and charming, taking the time to chat with our table, especially with our guest who was born in France as he was. I ordered a fish dish that came with hush puppies and I thought, HUSH PUPPIES, those greasy balls of dough served in the South, but I trusted chef Paul Virant and was rewarded with a light, delicate side that was more like a fine pastry. He's a genius!"

"Went for Chef's Week and wasn't as impressed with the menu choices as I had been with the regular menu on previous visits. Overall, Vie is a lovely restaurant with excellent service, delicious food, and an impressive beverage menu. I will continue to dine there and recommend to friends-just not for Chef's Week."

"went for Chef Chicago. The 1st course was quite good for both diners, but the whitefish was exceptional. The main course was not as good. The cod was good, but not wonderful. The beef dish, unfortunately, was tough with quite a bit of gristle -- not really up to the standard one expects.
Desserts very good but not exceptional."

"I believe I would like to try Vie again. The service was stellar, as was the ambiance and noise level. However the food did not "wow" me. I feel this is in part due to the "set" chef's menu. The beef for my second course was not warm at all. As I am a chocoholic I chose the napolean dessert, not really fresh tasting, and mediocre. I did have the whitefish for an appetizer which was flavorful."

"Went to Vie for the Valentine's Dinner. My wife and I ALWAYS pick Vie for special occasions, and Chef Virant and team once again made the decision a good one. Highlights of the menu were the chevre mousse for 2nd course. I told the waiter to just stop as this couldn't be topped. He assured that the climb wasn't over. He was right.
Also, a call out to new mixologist Bill. I had a taste for tequila and chili, and nothing was popping on the drink menu. Despite being rushed with the Valentine crowd, he ran to the kitchen to get some ingredients and whipped up a terrific cocktail. Sorry to anyone who had to wait for their drink. But, i'd rather have service and passion than fast.
Hats off to Vie. Can't wait to return."

"Because we enjoy fine dining we were excited to receive a Vie gift certificate for Christmas. Unfortunately our expereince was less than fine. I have a few pet peaves about upscale restuarants, and this one hit them all. Ambience - poor, noise level - loud, wait staff - careless. The food was definately nothing to write home about. When you're asked to spend upwards of $100.00 per person upscale should be upscale - this was not. I've seen many good reviews by the so called experts on this place, maybe its time for those experts to find a new profession. Just because a place charges over $30.00 for white fish does not mean its exceptional - its only white fish. My wife said the best part was the cous cous - about $3.00 at the local market"
