"I recently took a friend to Heirloom for a celebratory dinner. All staff members were extremely attentive and so helpful with coordinating a special dessert for my friend. This is the first review I've written for opentable and I would highly recommend Heirloom!"

"Heirloom has warm, attractive setting for food that combines the traditional with a modern twist. Everything tastes fresh, original, and delicious. The use of local produce makes it especially appealing to vegetarians, but it is enjoyable for everyone. The menu items as well as the specials offer choices for all tastes. I like the fact that in describing the specials, the waitstaff includes the price. The service is friendly and professional. The only negative is the noise level."

"It's no longer uncommon to find the best small restaurants with very high noise levels. All was well early on ( around 6:00-6:30) but then come 7:00 the noise really escalated. This was a Wednesday evening. Meal was delicious, dessert not so great but the service was wonderful. Look forward to returning."

"I think that this restuarant is a great addition to both the restaurant scene in Philadelphia and the community of Chestnut Hill. The service is always pleasant, and they do try to accommodate for food allergies. I do think that the food is just a bit heavy and I would like to have a little bit more of a variety of levels of sauces vs. "cleaner" food and pure vegetarian choices."

"Hadn't been to Heirloom before so decided to give it a try, Food was great, service could have been a little faster. We had to look around for our server several times -- and there was hardly anyone in the place at the time. We'll go back though, hope the service was just off that day."

"My husband and I went to Heirloom for the first time. The quality and presentation of the food are very good. My husband loved it. I however am very careful about what I eat and felt that every dish had oil on it and too much of it. I would prefer more dishes that are prepared and served with far less oil. I would also prefer more vegetarian options besides the vegetable tart which I'm sure had too much oil.
My husband ate every bite and I brought most of mine home hoping my husband would eat it. Just too much oil for me."

"Simply an exceptional meal. Wonderful creative menu. He service was exceptional and the chef, Al Farris visited with us before we ordered and gave gret advice on what to order. There really wasn't anything to criticize except we chose o eat outside. I probably wouldn't do that again. Otherwise I can't wait to return. The only issue here was the difficulty in getting reservations. Great job all round"

"I have never been disappointed at Heirloom. Their menu is creative and inspiring. I love having a restaurant of this caliber in my neighborhood. The down side of discovering a restaurant this good is that now its challenging to get a reservation!"

"The food at Heirloom is exceptional. Chef Al is amazing and we were delighted with our meals. I had the duck and froi gras - unbelievable! The froi gras was made to perfection and the duck was tender and delicious. The salad was also wonderful. They use fresh, local ingredients whenever possible. Service was impeccable. BYOB, which saves $$."

"we sat at the curved end of a long banquette but the table was square so we coud not get close to the table. The table could be moved to make it closer to one diner but that made it further from the other diner. So we compromised and left it equally distant from both diners. Then when eating we had to lean forward or sit at the edge our seats to reach our plates - it was awkward. Food was excellent and I will go back soon, but will ask not to be seated at table 31."

"We have been to Heirloom twice now, and each time was a delight. The wait staff is very solicitous. The ambiance is quiet and relaxed. The food presentation is some of the best I have seen. And we have found the side dishes are surprisingly good. We had the side of Brussels sprouts the first time we were there. Absolutely delicious. This time we had the side of gingered carrots. Like non I have ever eaten. I think I liked that part of the meal the best!"

"For me the food is most important and it's just yummy and unique. My friend and I both enjoyed the food very much including dessert - all very good. Although our server was lovely and professional he checked on us way too often. Both my friend and I detest this and it detracts from our experience. No news is good news folks. STOP ASKING HOW I AM AND HOW THE FOOD IS AND ON AND ON. LET ME TALK TO MY FRIEND ALREADY. I was a server for years - it's an art. Find the balance and read body language. If 2 people are inches away totally engrossed LEAVE THEM ALONE. Again I loved the food and would return but if you are the server reading this please try to tailor your service to each person the best you can."

"I went here during Chestnut Hill Restaurant Month. Everything was superb. The food is mainly prepared with local and seasonal ingredients, it's beautifully presented, and most importantly it is tasty. The dining room is very attractive, the service is friendly and efficient, and it is even a BYOB which is great on the wallet. This is a top-quality dining experience in Chestnut Hill."

"This was my second visit to Heirloom Restaurant, my first time for brunch. I liked the variety of dishes on the menu. The oyster gumbo, a substitute for the oyster chowder that they had run out of, was extraordinary. The oysters were huge and perfectly cooked. The broth was delicious as were the al-dente vegetables, cut just the right size for the dish. Although the shrimp and grits was also very tasty, there were only four shrimp, not enough for the amount of grits and mushrooms. One to two more shrimp would have been better or the same amount of a larger-sized shrimp. The service was attentive and well-timed. I will definitely return to Heirloom and I am looking forward to trying their signature dessert, the warm apple pie donut."

"My dining companion & I had a delicious meal and were even able to take advantage of its Chestnut Hill Restaurant Month offering. Heirloom has the added advantage of being a byob. The dining room is very small and feels all the more so due to rather dark burlap-like coverings (presumably there to hide the view of its tiny strip mall location) on the windows and door which was initially difficult to find. Worth mentioning because the restaurant was not that busy when I was there, but I suspect could feel very close on a busy weekend night."

"We ate there during restaurant month which was nice and the food was good. Tomato bisque was as good as it gets, the main course was shepherds pie which was very good although a little to finely chopped (could have been a little more chewy and had a better mouth feel), the dessert was chocolate cake with cherries inside and homemade vanilla ice cream. The dessert was quite good -- the cherries gave it a nice touch and the ice cream was nice, if bit tame. Strangely the dessert was the largest portion of the night.
The service was ok but the waiter seemed to be vaguely contemptuous that we were ordering the restaurant special -- excuse me but it sounded good. That plus a lecture that coffee made in a French press took 5 minutes was ann"

"Outstanding! The food is incredible, the decor is beautiful, the servers are attentive and accommodating, and the BYOB option is very nice as well. I have Celiac Disease, and was assured that I would have plenty of gluten free choices available to me. The accomodation for special diets was wonderful, and the food pairings were creative and beyond delicious! My family and I were very impressed, and loved everything we ate. We will be returning. "We were welcomed heartily! The room is modern but cozy. We did not know that it was "restaurant month" and was surprised to find a special prix fixe dinner. It was perfect for a dreary evening: lobster bisque, duck fricassee and a wonderful raisin cake. There was just enough food and it was enjoyed by all. We love the fact that it is BYO. The menu changes seasonally and uses very fresh ingredients."

"very small elegant dining room. right away when you walk in you're greeted with a warm but not overwhelming smile, its almomst like they are expecting you. There is limited seating do to the small but personal atmosphere which some would prefer. There is room for small parties but only one big table for a larger party. We definitely lucked out with getting there in the last few hours of the night. The service was amazing. For appetizer we had the crab cakes (forgive my memory) but they were brought out promptly and of course set the tone for the evening. The food is not only amazing but has character on the plate-which is deceptive at first I though wow this will not fill us but indeed it did. To finish the mgr. comes to check, great night!"

"This was our first time here, but it will not be our last. The chef uses fresh ingredients well making every bit a pleasure. Loved the mini root veggies in the salad- the shaved asparagus iwth the main course, the various homemade rolls, etc. We also appreciate it when the chef thinks to present his dishes beautifully. Only disappointment was dessert- the cake was dry and the accompanying sauce just did not come together-."

"I hate to say this since it's already nearly impossible to get a Saturday night reservation, but Heirloom, in my opinion, is the Best restaurant Chestnut Hill has had since I moved to the area in 1986! My husband and I eat out 2 to 3 times a week and often travel downtown for a good meal. Heirloom is as good as any of the exceptional BYOB's downtown. Now if Chestnut Hill could get a few more restaurants of this quality it would be a real boon to the district."

"This was our third visit to Heirloom and it just keeps getting better. My sweetbreads risotto with chanterelle mushrooms was spectacular. The sweetbreads were perfectly cooked and the risotto was moist and delicious. My wife had the scallops that were perfectly cooked and beautifully presented. My entree was the oso buco which also had a lovely presentation with flavorful meat and perfectly grilled asparagus. My wife's arctic char with lobster fingerling potatoes was simply spectacular.
We were huge fans of Django years ago and miss the reasonably priced BYOB. Heirloom evokes that standard of creative fine food. All they need is a cheese plate for dessert and we would wait in line for a reservation."

"I have dined @ Heirloom before & had impeccable service which makes writing this review challenging. Seven of my closest friends and I had the 1 pm seating for brunch. I order the yogurt parfait- sold out, the grapefruit brulee- sold out. My third option, the warm granola was available, and it was just ok. I ordered the mushroom and truffle omelette, the server brought out the wrong dish but quickly rebounded with the right omelette. My BFF ordered the crab cake benedict, it was prepared wrong so she asked that it be replaced but they were sold out. She ordered the shrimp & grits w/o the ham- it came to the table w/ the ham so she sent that back. Finally she just ordered lunch to go. It was horrible that she couldn't eat with us."

My wife and I ordered Osso Bucco which we thouht we would enjoy as we had at other restaurants. Unfortunately the meat lacked flavor and was tasteless. The marrow was hard to find and we lacked proper utensils to find it.
The calf must have been too old to be a calf and entirely raised on crab grass that grows along the side of back roads and elsewhere. I doubt it was raised on grain or ever fed grain on a regular basis. If it had it would have had more flavor.
Our guest ordered a white fish with clams and said her meal was very good."

"It was our first visit to Heirloom but it won't be our last. The friendly and professional staff welcomed us as we entered and showed us to our window table. Our waiter George gave us a warm welcome and never made us feel any rush throughout the evening. The menu was an excellent balance of loally prepared fish, poultry, and beef. Chef- Owner Al Paris at one point came out to greet all guests with warmth and sincerity in welcoming people to his eatery. The upscale dining experience still had a very personalized feel to the overall experience. The food was delicious. We would highly recommend this restaurant to our friends and family."
