Refined Asian-style teahouse by day, funky izakaya by night: Nobuo at Teeter House reflects the fascinating duality of Nobuo Fukuda.
The setting — a turn-of-the-century, wood-floored bungalow, awash in earth tones — emulates the relaxed intimacy of Japan’s izakaya, where friends and business associates gather to eat Japanese-style tapas, drink beer and have fun. Nobuo elevates the custom while staying true to its low brow roots, offering rustic Japanese classics with modern American inflections.
During the day, a short lunch menu is offered, as are exotic, aromatic teas, meant to be sipped and savored over quiet conversation.
In the evening, Nobuo creates"5-Star" cuisine, bringing a Western sensibility to Japanese sushi traditions while combining seasonal ingredients in exciting, inventive ways.

"Nobuo deserves all the accolades it receives. The food is creative yet tasty, and the presentation is equally creative. Service is attentive but not freaky. If you haven't tried Nobuo before, it's great to try at lunch. Not crowded, relaxed, and good for conversation. Try the okonimiyaki (I may not have spelled that right)--it's incredibly delicious, and you won't find it anywhere else in Phoenix."

"Nobuo-san has done it again! His new place at Teeter House is just as good as Sea-Saw, but in a (somewhat) larger location so more people can be thrilled! Loved it loved it loved it! After making your reservation here on OpenTable, call the restaurant to request the tasting menu. This will ensure you get the absolute best of everything Nobuo-san has that day."

"Nobuo at Teeter House was recommended by a friend for fantastic Japanese food and my out-of-town guests were thrilled with the choice. The food was beautiful AND delicious, and our waiter was exceptional (personal, pleasant, attentive and helpful with patient explanations about menu items and great advice about how to order and share dishes with a group. Every dish became an instant favorite! It is my new favorite restaurant and I will be returning frequently."

"I was expecting a typical Japanese restaurant, but the offerings here greatly surpassed anything I had before. The next time I stay in Phoenix, I would love to return here to try more!"

"There are only three cozy rooms including the entry. Not easy to get into this small gem. Best way is just look ahead on Open Table several days and choose a time. Reservations are definitely required, but well worth it."

"Every time I visit Nobuo I kick myself for not eating there more often. I always have an amazing meal. This time was no exception. In fact, the meal rivaled my all-time-favorite meal (which was at Chez Panisse). The food is always imaginative and creative, but more important, it's always delicious. Each menu item is like a tasty treasure. Add in beautiful presentation and terrific service, and you have a meal to remember. I can't say enough good about this restaurant. One more thing--remember they are open for lunch. It's a relatively inexpensive way to dip your toe into the deliciousness that is Nobuo."

"Took the wife for her birthday. We are both pretty picky when it comes to food especially sushi and this place was incredible. It is not really a typical sushi place but instead focuses on small servings with a complex, well crafted mix of flavors. We pretty much only got dishes featuring raw fish but their cooked dishes look great as well. The oyster served with uni and the yellowtail and grapefruit are phenomenol and may be the best sushi I will ever have. This place is pricey but well worth the cost."

"We had a fantastic dining experience. All dishes, japanese style tapas sized, were finely prepared. A bit disappointing to not see any side dishes on the menu to go along with the entrees dishes. I am not so into eating fish and meat plates without sides. Some japanese rice would have been nice. And I would have had another cocktail... A place to go to experience great food, but don't go there for the sake of your wallet if you're starving."

"Nobu delivered. The chef even delivered some of the dishes and answered questions. The food was absolutely delish. Tried some new things and that is always good. The Squash blossoms, Soft shell crab salad, Fried soft shell shrimp and the mouth watering Yellow tail ceviche were the highlights of our visit. Oh soooo good ! My next visit to Phoenix will most definitely include another Tetter house visit. The four of us enjoyed this dining experience very much indeed.

"My sister and I shared many of the amazing items on the menu. It was a feast fit for royalty. All of the things we tried were amazingly balanced in unexpected flavors (citrus, curry salt, fresh mango, creamy avocado, etc..) We loved it all! My favorite were the New Zealand lamb chops. No! My favorite were the oysters. Changed my mind! The duck egg, asparagus, and tender beef were the best. Okay! For real now! The Fois Gras was like dessert. It was buttery, rich, almost sweet! Yum! Dinner was a memorable experience that I can't compare to any other I've had, not in London, New York, Los Angeles, not anywhere! I was impressed and you will be too!"

"Both food and presentation very unique, but server was very helpful in explaining choices. Although all 4 of us are wine drinkers, we opted not to order wine because the selections on the wine list were too unfamiliar; the 2 men opted for beer. We all loved the food and the experience, but I would not choose to go there on a regular basis."

"The experience was very good. We were the only diners there as it was early (11AM) which we usually don't like but a actually enjoyed. The food was delicious, as usual, and served at a leisurely pace just the way we prefer it."

"Dining in Nobuo at Teeter House was a real treat. Very few historical buildings remain in Phoenix so the ambiance of eating in a 1880's era house was special. The food was very good and fit for foodies. The dining format was small plates for sharing. The restaurant was within walking distance of the Herberger theater and was the highlight of our evening."

"First visit: Wow. Best meal in Phoenix so far. Small plates for sharing venue, little difficult to figure how much is enough, but server helped. Small cold plates very good, sashimi was great, hot plates got better and better. Clams were good, but had to ask for dipping bread. Curry Lamb Chops were out of this world. Foie Gras was exceptional. A lovely antique home (Teeter House) housed Nobu, intimate and good noise level. Parking was the only drawback. Either get into the small valet nearby or park in the $12 garage parking a little ways down the street.
We will be back."

"We had an exceptional experience at Nobuo. We chose 6 items for the two of us to share and loved each one. The Teeter Tots and Sea bass with mushrooms are particularly outstanding. We had fun with our neighboring table as each of us exchanged "reviews" on each of our choices as they came out; we ordered one of their selections as soon as we saw it! Our server was very knowledgeable, friendly and efficient without hovering. While this was our first visit, we will now be regulars at the wonderfully innovative place."

"It's always our most outstanding meal during our annual 3 weeks in Scottsdale each spring, since tasting chef Nobuo's creations at Hapa and Sea Saw. We've tried the tasting menu and every a la carte dish -- all are brilliantly conceived and executed, with excellent Japanese beers/sakes/wine pairings. Pricey but worth every penny!"

"This restaurant was a great find! Quaint, small dinning areas and also room to dine outside during the day or nice evenings. The food, wine and service were outstanding. We liked the decor, much of it was done with natural products but I thought they could add a few more items to warm up the room. Our only complaint was the music - it was very loud and made it difficult to talk to one another. When asked, they did turn it down a little. We will definitely be going back. Great place to take people from out of town or other friends who haven't had the pleasure of dining here."

"We live in Scottsdale, and rarely go downtown, but had a meeting at a nearby hotel and wanted to try a new place. Nobuo is highly overpriced. I would rather eat at Binkleys. It will cost you the same amount. The wait staff was Gen Y and snobby at best. I think they thought we were tourists.....never assume. I would not recommend this place, nor would I ever go back."
