"Had a business dinner and met for drinks on the rooftop. Since it was a nice evening we ended up having our dinner on the rooftop as well. The food was good, they have a variety of options on the menu. The drink menu was above average with a wide assortment of vodkas and wine. We enjoyed our evening!"

"Blackthorne was not as busy as I expected that night. (We had a 7:30 reservation.) The atmosphere is very modern and interesting. The restaurant is clean and the staff is attentive. The bar area is beautiful. There is an outside patio and a rooftop, but we did not go to either spot this time. Our meal was great. Appitizers were delicious. I had the shrimp & grits entree. My husband had the salmon. My son had the burger. The salmon came out looking good, but was very salty. The server immediately took it back and replaced it with a new entree. It was much better. The manager also came out to check in with us. Overall it was a nice dinner, but a bit pricey (which we knew going in since we checked out the menu on line)."

"Took my family here for Mothers Day Brunch. Expected it to be crowded and noisy but was pleasantly surprised. Service was quick and our server was attentive. Everyone enjoyed their food. The side servings were very small but tasty. My wife inquired about the size of the side hash browns dish (about 3 small spoonfuls) the server acknowledged and quietly brought out another serving without charging us. Prices were a little high for some dishes, $16 for eggs Benedict with 2 small steak medallions. Overall, everyone left feeling satisfied and with a pleasant experience. Would try again for dinner."

"I had been for lunch and it looked upscale and had a cool vibe. Unfortunately for Brunch I felt like my party was treated as second class citizens. It took 10 minutes for our server to come to our table, the runner's were unprofessional, and it seemed there were plenty of staff running around but nothing was getting done in a timely fashion. In a restaurant like that, you shouldn't have to ask for a refill of coffee much less have to remind your server that if you get more coffee, you need more cream. The food was decent and if the service was at an acceptable level I'd probably go back. I have a gift card I likely won't be using."

"From the appetizers to the fire crusted dessert, it was delectable. I even commented on the creative wording for the soup du jour! " The kitchen's whim" <3 loved our waitress even more. "Blackthorne Restaurant continues to deliver very good food and service. The dishes are imaginative and well prepared, the service is cheerful and prompt, and the ambience is fine, if a bit noisy when the dining room is full. Lunches especially are a cut above the competition, especially for the interesting sandwiches with duck confit and bison meatloaf. My wife and I agree that it's one of the Ballantyne area's best lunch possibilities. We also like Blackthorne's for dinner when we want something interesting, healthy, and well above average."

"We thoroughly enjoyed our evening at Blackthorne. Per our request, we were given a quiet table in the corner away from the hustle and bustle. Our servers were very attentive and our food was fantastic. The pear and pecan salad was delicious and the shrimp and grits . . YUMMY! "The food was fine and the waiter friendly but quite frankly the service had much to be desired. We were never asked if we'd like coffee or desert before our check was presented to us. We had to ask for it afterwards ourselves. The coffee was terrible. During dinner several times our drinks ran dry. When we arrived and waited for our friends to arrive the first drinks my wife commented on the bartender said we can't make that we're out of the ingredients...it was a Friday night!"

"This has quickly become one of my favorites in the Ballantyne area. They have a seasonal menu that has enough new and cutting edge choices for foodies, but enough down-to-earth for those who like basics. They have a great seafood selection, great beef, and a few chicken options. I think perhaps one or two more chicken dishes might be in order. The atmosphere is nice, but can get a bit loud near the bar area, but the back dining area is very quaint and warm. The service is excellent, and the staff is always very knowledgeable about the specials and the menu items. A manager will always come by during your visit and ask how things are. The beer and wine selection is great. The food is always very fresh and delicious!"

"Food was okay, The lobster crabmeat appetizer was good, but heavy with large buttered toast points and baguette slices.
Cheese plate wasn't special. Needs more flavorful, specialty cheeses and pairings. I can pull out garlic cheese spread at home.
Maybe at some flavored jam, some honey, figs or something to boost the flavor of the goat cheese and add some blue cheese or Gorgonzola for contrast.
Server was great and very attentive but I can't say much more about the experience. Probably wont return anytime soon."

"We went here for our 3 year anniversary and it was great. We did go on a Sunday evening so it was nice and quiet. The staff is very friendly and the atmosphere was very relaxed. We will definitely be going back!"

"I was looking for someplace new to me, but since I just moved here the sky was the limit. The hostess was so helpful, sat us promptly and never lost her smile. Our waiter, Matt, was boy next door cute with a friendly smile and attentive disposition. We started with the blue crab and lobster dip, and then I ordered the Filet and it was cooked as I ordered and the accompanying roasted vegetables were so flavorful that I found myself going after those more than my steak. Every detail was spot on. Clean, great service, good/great food, comfortable and affordable."

"Blackthorne is in somewhat of an odd location, but once inside, the atmosphere is nice and sort of "lodgey". Went for the Valentines Day special menu and both my date and I were very happy with our food and wine. We started with the clam chowder which was a generous portion loaded with bacon and clams. Followed by a very fresh and pear, pecan and blue cheese salad. I then had the NC trout with lobster risotto and fried spinach, which was good, but the risotto may have been a tad heavy with the trout. My date had the salmon, which was perfectly cooked and seasoned. The server was very attentive. Only complaint was the horrible lighting. Would like to experience the bar on our next visit."

"We selected this restaurant based on their menu to celebrate a birthday and when we arrived, they were only offerring limited menu items due to extending their Valentine's Day menu. However, the manager was GREAT and assisted us in being able to meet our expectations - it truly made our experience wonderful. Blackthorne is definitely on our regular list of great places to dine from now on."

"For the menu and prices, the location in the strip shopping center doesn't work. It should have been placed in Ballentyne Village or somewhere else. Current location more fitting for a more casual, neighborhood bar. The service was ok but neither the food quality, portions or service were deserving of the prices. For us it will be a" been there done that- but not again" place."

"First time dining at Blackthorne after moving to the area. The service was very good and it is a very nice restaurant. The food was just ok in my opinion. "For the price of the food, the taste was not up to par. Lets just say nothing was (not good) but we were not blown away! The service was less then desirable. They need to work on there 14.00 cheese plate. 2 bites of bland cheese, some craisins, toast and grey pouppon equivallent. Waiter actually said "I wouldn't get the venison meatloaf, that was $19.00 Other places with same price point, but that would want our buisness. Staff needs to work on their skills in fine dining, the waiter would have been better suited at an Olive Garden or OCharleys."
