"My wife and I both had the chicken and found it significantly below par. Very surprised, as we have had it many times. Not sure if they have a new chef or the ingredients were not fresh, but the usual good food at Vendome."

"This restaurant continues to be our favorite French bistro in NYC. The food is always perfectly prepared and beautifully presented. I've mentioned it before, but the Beet, Bacon, and Blue Cheese Salad is simply outstanding. The service is impeccable, and both the owner and the Maître d'hôtel are highly visible and attentive. The wines by the glass are quite well-chosen, tasting much more expensive than their actual cost. This restaurant reminds me of good, old-fashioned European value - it's not about the buzz, or a celebrity chef. It's about the basics, pure and simple. Every time we come, we wonder why we don't eat here every night."

"Tucked away just around the corner in our neighborhood is this delightful and unassuming French restaurant. The food was absolutely delicious (I had tuna tartare and sea scallops) and they were perfect. Nice wine, an outdoor dining area (closed as it wasn't quite warm enough yet) and very good service made for a terrific dining experience. Highly recommended."

"Great date night choice. Food was delicious. Service great. We had the mussels provencale to share. Used the remaining dressing for dipping our bread. Yum! Rack of lamb and veal tenderloins were our entrées another win. For dessert we indulged in the white chocolate mousse and Creme brûlée. Will be back for more."

"We had a group of 10 for after play dining at 11pm. Some of our group just could not make it unfortunately but the Chef and Wait staff particularly the host i believe were all so polite even when we had to change our group number at the very end of the night. The Chef graciously waited and waited in the hopes the others could make it. The food was outstanding. Everyone in our group was delighted with their meals and it turned out to be a great choice."

"I love this restaurant. Everytime I go, I love it more. So comfortable and right in my neighborhood. My husband, friends and family always want to go there when we ask "What restaurant" From the bartender to the coatcheck, matri de, busboy and waiter. All so nice, friendly and accommodating. Kutos to chef too.

"Love the artichoke salad and the steak frites that you can customize with different sauces. What a great idea to make duck cassoulet. We're so lucky we can walk here, but I would travel here if I had to."

"Very good food, attentive but unintrusive service, good for groups celebrating an occassion and small intimate groups alike. A nice neighborhood restaurant with a comfortable, intimate but lively atmosphere. Lovely outdoor space.
All food is generally very good and mussels are particularly delicious."

"Close your eyes...and pretend that you're on Rue Balzac. This is French, pure and unadulterated. Fantastic hangar steak with frittes, and a fried goat cheese cake with salad that you will dream about. Nothing better in New York if you want authentic French, and comparable to the best Parisian bistros."

"This is our favorite neighborhood restaurant. The food is excellent, and the service is thoughtful and timely. Particular standouts include the Beet, Bacon, and Blue Cheese Salad, the French Onion Soup, the Cassoulet, and the Scallops. We have not had a bad or even a mediocre dish at this delightful restaurant, and we dine there frequently. We always request the glass-ceilinged atrium; however, diners should be aware that this is the loudest spot in the restaurant due to the many hard noise-reflecting surfaces. If a quieter atmosphere is desired, one should request the main floor. The owner, Virginie, is often available to greet guests and make them welcome, and the entire staff is lovely."

"Made reservations based on positive reviews from the well-known food sites. Did not disappoint! Mussels are prepareed five (5) ways. Had the provencale & thai...both were exceptional. Our table had scallops & striped bass for entrees. Fresh was the main ingredient here. Each has its own distinct blend of flavors & sauces to accompany the sides of vegies & risoto. Did not have wine, but cocktails were generous pours & reasonably priced. Service was attentive & not overbearing. Ended the evening sharing a creme brulee w/cointreau that was smooth & light w/a delicate sugar crust, not overtaking the flavor of the pudding."

"I arrived late 10:33 for a reservation for 1 at 10:15 pm. I apologized for my tardiness and said if they wished or needed to close, please do so, I would understand. I was the only patron in the restaurant. I ordered a sidecar as my cocktail -such great memories (not of the modern, perfect sidecar served up, but the old fashioned ones served in a red wine glass lots of ice, lemon, the mix, lillet blanc & cognac) of when I was a child and my parents would order sidecars at French restaurants such as Le Boeuf a la Mode, La Caravelle, etc. My first course was house-made chicken liver terrine, served with toast points, a little green salad; good chicken liver flavor yet lacked any of the unctuousness of liver. I dare say it was dry."
