Chef and owner Zoë Feigenbaum's light-filled restaurant is done in honeyed midcentury modern. The American menu also glances abroad: turkey rillettes, octopus with labne, harissa and olives, stuffed cabbage soup and tongue tacos.
Zoe's wine list looks toward old world style wines and is rounded out by a carefully selected list of Apertif and Digestif.
Zoe takes weekend brunch seriously, (as any true New Yorker would) so get there early for the homemade sticky buns and buttermilk biscuits. A great spot for pre-movie oysters and bone-in ribeye steak (Landmark Sunshine Theater is around the corner) or a quiet dinner with friends. Large parties and groups can be seated along the long banquette seating. Zoe is also a great choice for those who like to dine at the bar- Zoe's counter is specifically designed for dining and is a great place to enjoy their $1 Oyster Happy Hour and a half from 5:30-7:00 Monday-Saturday.
"My wife took me there for my birthday. We were both delighted with our meals and were especially blown away by the fried oysters, plump and crisp on the outside and juicy on the inside. Perfect.
My wife had salmon and I had pork steak. Both were delicious.
Even though we went on a Saturday night the restaurant wasn't very crowded. We were left wondering why it wasn't busier but figured it must be it's off the beaten path location. We would recommend it to anyone and will be back soon."

"I've enjoyed Zoe's legendary brunch before, but this was my first time doing dinner here. Equally fantastic! Had mouth-watering pork that tasted like sophisticated "carnitas" with collard greens, but I was even more impressed by the octopus escabeche with its incredible balance of moist, ever-so-gently yielding flesh. How did she get that texture so right on an ingredient that so often turns into a rubbery mess by others? I'd also recommend the lemon posset for dessert. It was a refreshing, chilled summer pie with a cotton candy soft graham cracker crust and just the right level of sweetness so as to make it dessert but not fight the delicious citrus bite of lemon. I'm always impressed with Zoe's food!"

"I was very impressed by my dinner there on Saturday night. The wait staff was very attentive. The octopus was delicious! I had the dorade, a whole fish perfectly cooked with a side of brussel sprouts. The brussel sprouts is a must to order! We fought over who would eat the last piece. In all I would absolutely recommend this restaurant because it is a gem."

"My fiancée and I came here to celebrate our engagement. It was during the middle of the week, so the atmosphere was quiet and intimate, perfect for just the two of us, unlike weekends when I'm told the place is buzzing with activity. The Brussels Sprouts live up to their name. The coffee was a great way to end before our drive home.
Making the reservation via Open Table was a piece of cake, despite needing to modify the reservation a few times.
All in all, a great experience."

"Excellent spot. Very tight dining floor once the space fills up, yet an awesome ambiance remains from the great service, cocktails and food. Will continue the trip from Harlem to dine here more often."

"Great food in an unassuming locale. Highly recommend for a low-key, delicious dinner if you are a resident of the LES. Prices aren't low but the food is certainly worth it!"

"I had brunch with a friend at Zoe. It was not awful but would not spend the money on items that arrived cold, with hash that tasted like it was cooked in old oil that had been sitting out. Service was slow and noise level was so loud at times it was hard to hold a conversation."

"What a shame that this was our second visit to Zoe and it will be our last. We brought our friends to the restaurant after raving about the food, especially the baked alaska.
To our surprise our waiter was rude, and when we asked for their amazing baked Alaska were told they had run out. when we pressed him for an answer as to why they could have run out of the dessert he said they did not have enough pans to make it!!!
After we got over the shock of his answer about the pans he said they only one other dessert to offer. We left. There was no offer for a drink to compensate for our disappointment knowing that we had brought our friends to Zoe for the food and the special dessert. No apologies, Nothing.
Very disappointing."

"Went for dinner with 3 friends. Appreciated that for a small place in the LES that they took open table reservations, made it a no brainer to eat there on a Friday night. Overall, a solid option for dinner in the LES, definitely good, but not great - which means that you don't need to make reservations days in advance in order to eat there. They could also accomodate groups of 6 or more with the way the place is set up.
Cocktails were interesting, and they had a decent selection of beers and wine by the glass. Good variety of food - from fried chicken to sweet potato gnocci to a number of seafood dishes. However, a little limited on vegetarian options and salads."

"We tried Zoe for brunch. Food was quite good. Service was less so. Wait staff seemed barely accommodating and a bit unfriendly. When we arrived, there were two guests in the entire restaurant. We were shown some seats in a middle aisle table but asked to be seated in a banquet on the side. Our request was treated like an imposition and we were seated as far back as possible - next to the kitchen which was uncomfortable for the four of us since we were surrounded by the wait staff who placed their orders to the kitchen on a computer literally at the backs of two of our party. Service was slow afterward which was a shame since the food was good."
