"I have had the pleasure of dining at Cantwell's several times now and each time has been better than the last. Last week 4 of us enjoyed ourselves with an absolutely delicious dinner and one of the most professional, competent waiters we've ever seen. One of my guests has owned a restaurant and knows the difficulty of maintaining high standards and good personnel. We were so impressed w the fresh bluepoints, the flatbread appetizers and the rest of our amazing meal that we had to call the manager over to thank him for not only the excellent food, but the attentive, not intrusive character of his staff. We were all delighted with our meal and thoroughly charmed by this wonderful place. Lucky Odessa, another gem added to their town!"

"It was a nice evening so we choose to sit outside. But we were seating next to the musician and keyboard player and we couldn't hear what we were saying. Also, a lot of kids were there running around back and forth so the noise level was annoying. Service was ok. Never got the soup we ordered although it was on the bill. It was taken off once we told them. Took a while for refills,etc.
I will try again - INSIDE. Would not recommend outside based on noise level and service."

"If you didn't know better you would swear you were at the Kings Arm Tavern in Colonial Williamsburg
Cantwells has a true tavern feel with a very friendly staff and a great menu. From deviled eggs to perogies( who sees perogies on a tavern menu?) you will also see delicious crab cakes, fried oysters, steaks and burgers on this amazingly diverse menu. And be sure to save room for dessert. They are worth the calories for sure"

"We go to Cantwell's at least once a month (often more) for the great food, friendly staff and awesome beer/wine selection. Their Sunday brunch is delicious and the have new specials every week. Lunches and dinners are great as well! This is a true hidden gem rich with history and flavor!"

"The two of us were seated in a medium sized room w/ two large (and loud) groups. Combined with the room's acoustics, it was impossible for us to talk (or even think for that matter). We asked to be reseated and were moved to a quieter room. My wife had the fried oysters which were good and I had the turkey pot pie. I thought it would be an individual pie but it was pot pie filling over a biscuit. I can accept the style choice but was dismayed by the small portion for a a homey dish. Had bread pudding for dessert. The wife ordered the beignets but they were out and she went for the special ice cream cake-it was hard frozen and difficult to eat, it needed to be left out to soften before being served."

"Finally went to the Cantwell Tavern on Friday. It was so unbelievably good that I returned on Saturday and have made reservations for my birthday next week! Where do I begin to describe the small but terrific bar, the architectural beauty of the entire tavern, the numerous beers, great wine list and the excellent and friendly service? From the hostess who greeted us w attention and courtesy to our server Mack, the staff knows exactly what they are doing. He was extremely helpful in describing flavors, side dishes, how the chef made a certain dish, everything to do w the menu. He was attentive w/o being obtrusive, the food was as good as promised, the wine was superb...all in all, we've just found our favorite restaurant in Delaware!"

"Cantwell's is a lovely place for dinner. They continue to have a lack of consistency. The bread this time was really not good; dry stale and really tasteless. But the desert was out of this world. The scallop special was excellent. Short ribs were good . As usual the service was top notch. Overall a wonderful dining experience."

"Went here for Mother's day...always a good choice! Even though it was an almost chilly day, we sat on the patio enjoying our pre-dinner drinks in the late afternoon May sunshine...lovely!! Then another great meal: scallops and pancetta with sweet potato puree and roasted asparagus with a sprinkling of pomegranate seeds. I so love this place! It's so comfortable with such great food (always fresh!!) and wonderful service! We live in Dover; I could move to Odessa just so that I could be a "regular". Thank you, Cantwell's!"

"My group of retired teachers often come here to connect. i als come here for lunch with out of state visitors due to the ambiance. The menu is very limited and the cocktails very expensive. You need to work on your crab cakes as they are full of fillers and not even as good as what you get at Pat's. Service is good but the menu needs to be more exciting."

"Cantwell's Tavern is a charming neighborhood gem located in Historic Odessa, DE & the tavern's location in a historic building adds to its ambiance. Before visiting the historic houses in Odessa, my husband & I had a delicious lunch of Maryland Crab soup, a crabcake sandwich (the best of these always come from the Delmarva Peninsula!) & a nouvelle cuisine vegetarian dish which as an offering is very much appreciated. When we are in the area again we definitely will be enjoying the fare at Cantwell's Tavern by making our reservations on Open Table."

"Finally got to Cantwell's Tavern in Odessa. Beautiful old building, built in 1703. One of the best meals I've had in a long time. Almost everything is made in house. Our server Krystle, was very attentive, and answered all of my question. The menu is very diverse, something for everyone. The ambiance, service, and food made for a wonderful experience. It’s a must go to place. I will be returning to Cantwell’s Tavern. very soon.

"In my request for reservation I indicated I would like to be seated in a remote or quiet table. Not only were we sat at a table in the doorway entrance of this diningroom, but there were two parties already sat in the back of the same room who were rediculoulsly loud. At times during our private conversation I had to pause until the noise in the room subsided enough that my party could hear me without having to yell. Additionally, we were asked to wait in the bar for nearly 15 minutes until our table was ready. However when we were being walked to our table by the hostess, I counted 6 tables large enough to seat our party. I praised Cantwell Tavern to my friends but was embarrassed after our experience."

"The Cantwell's mimosa is fabulous! For brunch, our party enjoyed Eggs Chesapeake, the special pancakes (cooked with bacon, topped with apples), and Eggs Benedict. All were very good!!! Great ambience, too! Our friends live in Dover and we live in Wilmington. Odessa is the perfect meeting place! We will definitely be back!"

"We've been to Cantwell's a few times for dinner and brunch. It's great for brunch, but I don't think we'll be returning for dinner. Their menu is promising, but the food doesn't deliver.
The portions are miniscule for the prices. I paid $19 for six one inch cubes of beef tenderloin ordering the tenderloin skewers two of which were very tough. And I had to ask the waiter what kind of tenderloin it was, the menu didn't say. My husband got the pierogis. They looked remarkably like the Mrs. T's pierogis I get in the grocery store for $4 for 20. He got 6 pierogis and 6 half inch slices of kielbasa and I think that was about $18. He also hates sour cream, and his meal came with a big dollop that was not mentioned on the menu"

"We have eaten at Cantwell's several times. Previously, we ordered from the entre section of the menu and everyone in the group was more than happy with our entire meals and the service was excellent. We have eaten in each of their dining areas. This time we were there for a late lunch and ate at a booth in the bar. It was very good to outstanding in most respects. The BLT, Beef Brisket, Cantwell's Burger and Salmon BLT sandwiches were excellent. French fries were very good. Potato salad was a little peppery. The only less interesting course was dessert, the apple fritters were a bit heavy, fortunately, the accompanying vanilla ice cream was wonderful."

"Third time back and the food is excellent as it was on our first visit. Great staff and very friendly. Dont know about the wine list but the beer list is out of this world. Can not wait to go back and try a couple more. We have recommended to all of our friends and once they go they always thank us for the recommendation."

"The meals look small but they are really just the right size. Food was outstanding. I had the Low Country Shrimp Etouffee and my wife had Grilled Salmon, both dishes were great. I, however, didn't really care for French Onion soup, just didn't have the onion kick to it but the Maryland Crab soup was really good. We will dine here again in the near future."

"This is Restaurant that will take you back in time. It is set in an old house and still has all pictures and furnishings from all its years. This history is complimented well by the modern food and very outstanding staff.
I took my wife there for Valentine's because she likes Vintage style Restaurants - and we have fell in love with the place. Look forward to being back there again."
