"The appetizers were really wonderful, service was good, but not great. We ordered the John's Steak...bone in NY strip....it was ok...but chewy and did not have really wonderful flavor. 3 stars....and that was on the appetizers...not the main course."

"Unfortunately the food can't measure up to the ambiance. The gumbo was totally tasteless with no body. The green salad was very good as was the deviled egg appetizer. But no bread and $5 for four mediocre parker house rolls, come on! It seems that this lovely setting for a restaurant is jinxed.. We certainly won't be back."

"Excellent food for brunch, loved the atmosphere (it's a beautiful building) but absolutely TERRIBLE service, which was quite frustrating given that we were celebrating Mother's Day. Yes it was busy but we waited for water, for the waiter to open our champagne (we considered opening it ourselves) and for our food. Honestly, if they just fire that guy, we would be happy to go again."

"Don't be scared off by the uniqueness of the menu. We all most were, but opted for the tasting - 5 course dinner. My mouth was in heaven! Amazingly good, every course was perfect, then the next course would be even more perfect. How was it possible? And, the service only added to the perfection of the evening! EVERYONE was gracious, helpful, fun and attentive without being intrusive. We had a perfect evening, and can't wait to go back. AMAZING!"

"Three stars to Dixie for all its potential. Our Saturday noon seating had a major front of house issue. One waitperson for the entire restaurant, no GM or bartender in sight. The attentive bus staff could only keep table water filled. After 1/2 hour seated, another waitperson arrived before drinks and the kitchen began to flow. The ambiance and view from the patio are wonderful. I loved the pet-friendly policy! Cocktails were strong & affordable. Food god but not consistant. Our table orders: the burger (unfortunatley on a too small, tasteless egg bun), fried chicken was excellent. Don't order the 'sopchoppy' (2 eggs w/ grits) - it was just plain wierd and overpriced. I'd go back to give another try."

"We had the 5 course pairing menu that we bought through Travelzoo. The food was fantastic, and the service nearly flawless. The restaurant is spacious which made for a very comfortable dining experience. The food was innovative and delicious for every course. The bar looks like a great place to hang out as well. We will definitely go back."

"Ate there with family members last week. Absolutely nothing worth recommending. The menu reads like many others--lots of unusual ingredients combined to impress, but the results were mostly just disasters and that isn't a word I throw around casually. Some of one entree was truly inedible. It smelled and looked like cat food. The sturgeon was okay but on a bed of plain brown rice with some plain beets. Desserts were just as awful. We had a warm rice pudding with some kind of chocolate beignet on top. It was ugly and tasteless. Service was strange too. Many, many staff people and no one seemed to quite understand their exact role. It's a beautifully designed restaurant and nice view of Presidio trees from our window table."

"The atmosphere was very nice, we'd never been here before. The space is huge and the bar is spacious and very open. The prix fixe menu was very inventive especially the canapes. The main dish was steak, it was nice and tender. The wine pairings were very appropriate.
In general, a very nice experience, though pricey."

"Our party of 6 came for dinner. The food was beautifully prepared, the chicken and dumplings tender and tasty, and the molasses marinade fish dish was unusual and delicious. Service was attentive and friendly. The interior is inviting and It's a lovely setting in the Presidio, with the opportunity of dining on the patio during the day. Will definitely go back."

"My husband and I went for brunch on a LivingSocial voucher. The restaurant is a beautiful venue, nestled in the LucasArts campus. We paid $34 for a supposed $68 value. Perhaps had we ordered off the regular menu we would have have received something edible. Instead we had an undrinkable Bloody Mary (incredibly oversalted) and a standard mimosa - a total of $18.50 on the menu, but our bill listed these two drinks as $40.20! When we queried our waitress about the bill she said, "I don't understand either, but you've already paid." Of our choice of only three entrees, my waffles were okay, but my husband's eggs benedict were so dry as to be inedible. The canapes were tasteless. Bad enough to have bad food, but to be duped - DON'T GO!"

"I love the venue and setting for Dixie; I wish the food and service could measure up to its lovely setting. Reception is friendly, until you get to the tattooed bartender, who acts like taking your order is a favor he'd rather not fulfill, and gaze upon the limited, revised cocktail list.
The food menu is also limited and hasn't change since the restaurant opened. The plates are lovely to look at and tasty but don't entirely stack up to the price point; although, the tasting menu looks like a good value. Wine list disproportionately over priced.
Service is good but uneven. Long wait between appetizers and main course.
So much potential for the restaurant but doesn't currently match the setting."

"Terribly slow service. The waiter was in way over his head. Drinks took forever to get out. Finished the meal, which was very good (Fried chicken) and never saw the waiter. Finally tracked him down to order another drink and it must have been well over 15 minutes before they were delivered. He was even seen refilling water glasses, which shouldn't be his job as the busboy had already refilled them twice in his long absence."

"Whether to recommend Dixie is hard, and it shouldn't be. The food is terrific: clever, interesting, and artful twists on Southern cuisine. It's been a long time since we spent so much time talking about the ingredients that made a dish so unique. But it's also been a long time since we had to spend so much time. The management of the restaurant isn't of the same caliber as the chef. Although we had reservations, we were left to wait in the bar without service. Items on the menu weren't available. Servers rushed from table-to-table, late with whatever patrons had requested. An example: our server came to take our order, got flagged by another table about missing drinks, then didn't return for another ten minutes."

"We enjoyed trying several different appetizers and cocktails, as well as the black-eyed peas complementary "amuse bouche" that the restaurant gave us. The cod beignets, oysters and hush puppies were all tasty. We also enjoyed our entrees, which included grilled shrimp, dungeness crab salad and pork and chicken dishes. Portions are on the small side, but then the price is very reasonable and in the end we were full. For dessert we shared the pecan pie with burnt caramel sauce and malt vanilla ice cream--very good!"

"Getting seated was a nightmare. The maitre d' was more invested in trying to seat a walk-in group rather than taking care of people who actually had reservations. We had to remind her of the name on our reservation three times. Despite having brunch reservations for 11:30 when they opened, we didn't get seated until 11:50.
The waitress was very nice, but was spread too thin to be even marginally attentive. She also had to break the bad news that they were out of over half of the beers on their menu. She even apologized for the lack of service when bringing the check.
The fried chicken was tasty, but it wasn't good enough to make up for an overall disappointing experience. And its over priced.
We won't be coming back."

This southern cooking is anything from down home, yet my friends, who grew up on grits, knew this for the real thing. The wine pairing was not well thought out. The first wine was a brandied concoction that over took the first course. "We had brunch mid week and the restaurant was rather quiet and not full, even when we left well at late afternoon. The location is beautiful and a true SF treat when it comes to vistas. We had an assortment of the southern bites including the deep fried pickles, which were delicious and went perfectly with our cocktails. "Superb, unique menu and excellent, friendly service. The menu is always a bit confusing for me, but I'm not sure how that could be improved. Perhaps the server could explain that the 'small plates' make good appetizers, etc.

"Overall, we had a mixed experience, and factoring in highs and lows results in the fair rating. It is a handsome looking restaurant in a pretty setting in the Presidio. Our server was very rushed, and it was apparent that he had too many tables to serve well. We had the pork, beef and chicken entrees, and all were disappointing bordering on bizarre in the case of the chicken and dumplings. The highlights of the meal were the Dixie Old Fashioned, the oyster trio, the cheese grits and the pecan pie. There is a nice selection of fairly priced wines by the glass."

"We had a travelzoo voucher, "$89 for 2 with drink pairing for a 5 course meal with a Michelin Star chef..at a beautiful restaurant in the Presidio" Saturday night, 6 people. We get to an isolated restaurant, pretty empty, they say our table is almost ready and to please wait in the lounge, 10 min later nobody had come to offer us any drinks, first red flag...ok lets go to the table, that is still set for the original 7( we had change our reservation), We get inform that the drink pairing is only 3 of them for a 5 course meal . Canapes, follow by 2nd course with a pairing of 3 fingers of sherry, lots of water! Terrible service, mediocre food"

"There were nice elements in most of the dishes but the tasting menu as a whole was just OK. Definitely is not worth $250. The restaurant space is exceptional. Service was warm and attentive. I would come back to try other dishes if in the neighborhood."

"Don't underestimate "Dixie" & Southern Cooking. What a gourmand's evening! We thoroughly enjoyed the 5 course wine dinner. Innovative preparations presented by superb wait staff accompanied by a very knowledgeable wine steward. No rush,no hurry---just a relaxing, very satisfying and unique restaurant experience. Convenient location, appealing menu, wonderful, attentive staff make this a must "go to and will return again" dinning find."

"Skip the heavy hush puppies and order the CALA instead! EVERYTHING (except hush puppies) was FANTASTIC. We think it should be called ZEN DIXIE. Serene, fusion, and fun. One waiter even carried an infant around the restaurant to keep her calm while the parents ate! AMAZING and great! shrimp, quail, deviled eggs, blacked eye peas and cracker bread, SMOKED OYSTERS were the BEST EVER! The setting is beautiful with views of the Bay and Palace of Fine ARTS. Trees are in bloom and can't beat a cocktail on the patio. TRY IT! WONDERFUL! It will be a neighborhood regular spot for us. the smell of the acorns and eucalyptus walking into the restaurant puts you in the serene mood needed to really enjoy the food."

"Bruch last Easter was yummy. They accommodated seating 10 of us with 5 different reservations. We had a few of us wanted virgin drinks and they put some alcohol on the side which made us drinking people happy. My eggs Benedict was filling and yummy. Those who got the burger said it was juicy, perfectly grilled to their preference. as usual, service was super nice. Jamie was awesome. Will be back over and over."

"The food and service were both very good. Menu is based on Southern cooking, but very creative. Best Bloody Mary ever, made with a smoked tomato juice and a nice bite. Eggs benedict was very good. My choice was on a biscuit and crammed collard greens. Fantastic! The ddvilied egg appetizer was great too. The restaurant is a little hard to find, but with it!"

"Had the 5 course tasting menu with pairings. The food was trendy, interesting, very, very high end feel, and great taste. An extra appetizer course was thrown in, but only 3 drink pairings included instead of 5 as per Travelzoo offer, and two of the 3 were really tiny servings--3/4" of wine in the bottom of a normal shaped glass--so we had to buy wine by the glass. Males were consistently poured more than females (!)
Serene and quiet setting, but something is really missing to the point that I thought about it a lot during dinner--specifically the decor is all neutral colors and the lighting is fluorescent and fairly bright. I want non-weird colored low lighting, candles/flowers on the table, music, and some pops of color!"
