Le Grand Bistro Americain
Le Grand Bistro Americain offers casual urban french dining and stunning views of Lake Washington, located at Kirkland's Carillon Point. Lunch specialties include Moules Frites, Beouf Bourgignon, Salade Maison,Croque Monsieur or Madame, Le Burger Americain or Lamb Burgers served on house baked breads and Brioche buns. Dinner specialties include steaks in both American and French preparations, Seattle's best "Beouf Bourgignon","Boulliabase", and house made "Saucisses Le Grand". Choose from an array of seasonally inspired specials, artfully displayed tableside on our chalkboards. Order a "Petite" or "Grand Plateau" of fresh oysters and shellfish from "Le Raw Bar". Oysters for $1.25 each, Chicken or Beef Sliders, hand cut frites and "Pichets" of wine grace the Hour Happy Hour menu Monday through Friday, 3pm - 6 pm.

"Well, mother's day everyone enjoyed the Lake Washington view in the restaurant. Services are very good. Little disappointed with the food as tasted bland by themselves. Well done steak was burnt outside and bleeding inside, too thick to be a good well done. Onion soup was the opposite of many other restaurant we tried that the others are very salty and this was hardly any taste and tasted fat."

"I made a reservation for a special occasion but the restaurant wasn't ready when we arrived. We waited 15 minutes for a table, and when we were escoted to our table, they asked us to cram into a table that wasn't big enough for our group. When we asked to be seated at a nearby table that was empty and big enough, they told us it was already reserved. How ironic. That table remained empty during our entire meal until we left. The hostesses didn't offer to do anything to make up for the problem except to offer us to go back up front and wait longer. Food was okay, waiter was nice, but I won't be returning."

"This is an easy-going brunch/dinner restaurant with a great view. Kid-friendly, affordable, but not that french, in my opinion. Wait staff and hostess were all friendly. The waiter did not rush us out while we lingered to visit. Overall pretty good restaurant. I personally would have liked more french flair in this dining experience but if you don't care about that then give this place a try. You can't be the view."

"We really enjoyed our meal. Escargot as the shared first course was great, and we both enjoyed the main course. Service was very good--helpful and happy waiter, and helpful assistants, as well as a very pleasant hostess who followed up after we mentioned it was our anniversary. The dessert was wonderful, although they were out of the apple dessert we wanted to try."

"They seemed a little overwhelmed the night we dined there. The bartender was our server so she was hustling to take care of all her responsibilities. The pepper steak was good but the mussels were cooked with bacon bits which dominated the flavor of the mussels. No merlot available by the glass which surprised me. The prices seemed a little high for the quality of food. Incredible atmosphere and beautiful location looking out over the water."

"This was our second visit after a less than good experience several months ago. Last time, we had issues with the food preparation as well as the service. I am happy to report that the food quality was good, but the service was even more haphazard and nonchalant than before. The restaurant wasn't all that busy, but we had trouble getting attention from the wait staff. The food arrived at random times, we had to get up and leave the table to find someone to bring us a spoon for the soup -- and we ended up presented with a coffee spoon! That set off another search for help and we finally received the right spoon. The restaurant seems to focus on the kitchen -- it really needs to step up its oversight in the dining room."

"The restaurant is beautiful - spacious, welcoming, and has a stunning view of the harbor. The service by the wait staff, manager, and hostess was also stellar. However, the restaurant falls short with its food. As a party of two, we ordered the French onion soup and fried oysters for appetizers and the filet mignon and the peppercorn New York steak for entrees. If French onion soup is on the menu, we always order it and rank it. The soup we had here was hands down the worst we've ever had. It was very bland and watered down. The fried oysters with its carrot salad were excellent. The New York steak had way too much flavoring as it was drenched in, well, peppercorn. The filet and its whipped potatoes were scrumptious."

"Seattle Restaurant Week brought us to Le Grand Bistro Americain, as we both like french food and a good deal! I enjoyed the Asparagus Salad, the steak frites, and yummy chocolate pot de creme; Hubby had pork belly appetizer, boeuf bourguignon and the cheese course for desert. The server was new, but attentive. A bus person had a few 'dropsies' while we were there - breaking a glass and dropping silverware, but overall the service was fine. The food was good, steak arrived hot, cooked the way I requested, and the frites were crispy and very tasty. Beef Bourguignon was melt in your mouth goodness. Good enough to return, so we'll be back! The view was amazing, the day was clear and sunny."

"I have gone here on three other occasions and this was by far the worst I have had. I am hoping our server gave his tip to the server assistant as he didn't do much except take our order and peep his head around the corner one other time (he really just leaned over from around the side to check up once). The manager was nice enought to clean off our table before dessert and the Server assitant did pretty much everything else including prebussing food that wasn't ready to go back and fill up empty water glasses. I was kind of shocked as I have always loved each moment previously attending this restaurant. I would speak very highly of the place, but as of now I am a little shocked and wondering if other bad reviews make more sense now. :("

"The restuarant is superb. The food was outsanding. My wfe and I have travel all through Europe and the Creme Brulee was the best we ever had.
Although not a distraction to the excellent food and service. I mentinoed it was my wife and my 30 anniversary when I made the reservation. A candle with the Creme Brulee would have been nice.
It was out first time at your restaurant and we would come back.
But I also realize that it is a business so the little niceties should not be expected.

"I've been here several times during Dine Around Seattle. Food is always the same - ok to good, not great. Desert is decent. During Dine Around and Seattle Restaurant Week promos (3-course lunch for $15), it's a good choice. But I'd pick Purple Cafe, Volterra and Barking Frog over Le Grand. Good view of Lake Washington."

"After much research and reviewing I decided to bring my boyfriend here for Easter dinner and we really enjoyed it. It has a beautiful view, the waiters are extremely friendly and the food is excellent. For both my boyfriend and I to eat without dessert, we ended up paying about $65 which isn't bad for such a nice place. I would definitely recommend it. The one thing different I would suggest is for the hostesses to either wear longer skirts or tights under the skirts. One girl's skirt was so short with her bare legs and it brings down the classiness of the atmosphere. Other than that, the place was amazing, and the view of the sun setting on the water in the evening made it even better."

"We had to leave before ordering. Hostess took an extended period of time to seat us even though we had a reservation, tables were ready and no one was waiting in front of us. Once we were seated, we were ignored and waited a significant amount of time and then left to go eat at Bin on the Lake across the way where service was immediate and prompt. This establishment is understaffed and they have no concern for their customers."

"Stopped in for a lunch. Girlfriend and I ordered the French Onion Soup (spot on great, will probably come back for the soup alone). Ordered up the Steak Frites which was good and reasonably priced. Service was attentive and good. Ambience is nice and so is the view."

"We eat here frequently and the food is generally quite good. Unfortunately the service is lacking. This occasion our oysters were served before our drinks, which were ordered first. Same issue with dessert (served long before coffee arrived). Server was flustered by the Travelzoo promotion we were using and it took quite awhile to get the check. All that said, it was a lovely evening and we were happy to sit and enjoy the sunset, but if we had a second destination it would have been irritating."

"Nice loctation right on the Marina in Kirkland, beautiful sunset view over Lake Washington for dinner. Prices were not outrageous for the fairly exotic French fare. We will definitely be dining there again."

"First time there, but we really enjoyed the experience. Food was exceptional. We had the Beouf Bourguignon - very delicious. The sauce was amazing. Great cocktails too - love the French 75 - Yum!!"

"While there were no problems with the food or the service, my review is tempered by a couple of irritants. We arrived 10 minutes early and still weren't seated until 20 minutes after our reservation time. The second irritant was that 3 of the 7 desserts on the menu were no longer available when we were ready to order (this was a 7 pm reservation). The food was generally good (except for the bread and an unnecessary variation of pommes frites); the wine list adequate and our server very knowledgeable and pleasant. The ambiance fell short of French Bistro and was more typical Eastside Loud."

"Service was less than satisfying. The hostess insisted we didn't have a reservation for the first 5 minutes and then once she was convinced we had a reservation we waited another 20 minutes for a table. So after being seated 25 minutes after our reservation our waiter was not knowledgable or attentive. It took him about 15 minutes to come and check in with us to see if we wanted a drink and when asked about the specials he read from a list and wasn't able to comment on them. My friend ordered a second beer that took 40 minutes to arrive, and that was after reminding him twice...
The good itself was great. I wish the service was better. I'm willing to try it again in the hopes that they had a bad night for service."

"We went out as a celebration dinner hoping for a nice dinner with good drinks and service. What we found instead was sub par overpriced food and horrible service. We thought we were getting the dine around Seattle deal but didn't read the fine print about Sat and Sun not included in that deal. When we told the hostess, she offered to see what she could do about it. Then the manager came over with his vest sloppily unbuttoned and gave us a very uncomfortable stare down to tell us that we were wrong and NONE of the restaurants do that deal on the weekends. Then our very awkward and strange waiter came over and did the same thing. That's how it started and just got worse from there. Never have I had such an unpleasant celebration in my life."

"Wonderful food, offering both classic takes as well as twists on French bistro fare. The fries to DIE for (made with duck fat perhaps?). I ordered a lovely country-style pistachio pate as a starter and ended with a satisfying chocolatey pot de creme. All while looking at a lakefront view. It's been added as a neighborhood favorite to my list.
After tasting the handmade glaces, my dining companion was thrilled that the chef could indeed make his favorite flavor out of bing cherries once they were in season, and immediately swore his love and allegiance on the spot.
We noted that there is a separate room that is used for large parties, so we're inspired to take advantage of that in the future. Can't wait to go again."

"We were able to participate in the Restaurant Month special for 3 for $30. I was looking forward to the steak frites, but unfortunately, it might have been the worst steak I've ever consumed in a restaurant. It was tough, chewy, over-cooked and "gamey." I don't expect a filet for steak frites, but I do expect a reasonable steak that is moist, able to be cut without sawing and overall tasty."
