"After a rainy day at the Derby, we stopped in for a late dinner and were blown away by the fabulous steaks at very reasonable prices. It had a great neighborhood atmosphere and our waiter was just terrific."

"Kid's took "Mom" to Cast Iron for Mother's day. We all like it very much. Staff was friendly and very attentive, comparable to much more expensive restaurants. Food was very good especially considering the price which was very reasonable!"

"Food was great. Had reservation, but arrived early and was seated immediately. Table spacing tight. Was hard to hear others at our table (of 4) at times. Also, restaurant had track lighting which was nice, but also some lights were at/in your eyes; wish they could have been angled differently."

"We've eaten here many times since the River Road restaurant opened, and usually ask another couple to join us. They often have not been to Cast Iron Steakhouse before. They are always impressed with the menu variety, quality of the food and great service."

"It was very busy on the Thursday of Derby Week and we expected dinner might take a little longer than usual, which it did. The wait staff was stretched pretty thin so the host took care of us and was our waiter for the evening. The bacon wrapped filet was delicious - great steak at a good price!"

"Whenever we go to Cast Iron Steakhouse the staff is always very friendly. The food is always perfectly prepared and served promptly. Management always makes a point of checking on how the staff is doing. This is truly a great place to sit back and unwind from the days stresses."

"Food was excellent as always for a very reasonable price. Our server was not very attentive (never told us specials, had to request refills, forgot bread until entrees came out), however this was very rare from what we have experienced in the past so we would still return due to the quality of the food."

"We arrived promptly for our reservation, and found that a group in front of us was arguing with the host. He at first told them they would have to wait, as they did not have a reservation, but then led them to the only open table in the restaurant without speaking to us. When he returned to talk to us, we discovered that he had given them our table. He confirmed that he had our reservation, but offered no apology or explanation. He suggested that we wait until a group in the bar area finished and try to grab their table. This was not a good idea for us in that a) we had two children and had reserved a table in the dining room so that we would not be in the bar area, and b) he gave our reservation away. This was very disappointing!"

"As usual, this wonderful restaurant near the Ohio River in Harrod's Creek delivered a fine dining experience. My steak was perfectly prepared and the meal started with the signature Tomato and Blue (Cheese) soup. Good service and a warm atmosphere added to this enjoyable evening."

"Very pleasant reception by staff and server. Simple menu, nothing looks sophisticated (and it's not). Prices moderate and commensurate with food quality and ambiance. Salads (included w/entrees) - very mediocre though plates were nicely chilled. Bread was microwaved and mushy. Entrees - my rib eye steak was flavorful enough, but was at least 50% fat and gristle; my side choice was a baked sweet potato, which was microwaved before serving. My wife's meatloaf was also mediocre, diner quality; her potato cake was very good. All-and-all, they need to use higher quality ingredients (especially steaks) and forgo the microwave."

"great food and fantastic service. wish menu had more breakfast items on it, like omlets and pancakes or waffles, but overall, great brunch service. Also, if open for a full breakfast service, I bet they could pack the place. It's been a long time since I was thanked multiple times by the wait staff for my patronage, and it was genuine. Will be back."

"I went with a friend of mine, who had never been here. We both enjoyed our meals and the service.
We ordered the Mahi with a baked sweet potato and the 15 ounce ribeye with green beans. The complimentary bread and house made compound butter are very tasty, and the server gave me an extra little loaf and butter to take home :-). My friend enjoyed her Mahi with a nice sauce with a hint of dill drizzled over the top while my ribeye was cooked to perfection with a nice char and great flavor."

"Cast Iron is a great place to dine with friends or enjoy some alone time with your special someone. Everyone in our group had something different (Salmon, Steak, Burger and seafood cakes) and left very satisfied. If you go you must try the tomato bisque and blue soup --- it's worth the trip alone! Our server (Matt) was attentive and friendly but gave us enough time and space to catch up with our friends whom we hadn't seen in several weeks. Cast Iron has become one of my favorite places; I'm sure it will become one of yours too!"

"We have always had good luck at Cast Iron. On this visit, the service was not as good as it usually is. Our server brought our appetizer but then had to be told that we also wanted to place our order for dinner. He never checked back after we got our meal. We flagged him down once to refill our drinks. He refilled one, but ignored the other empty glass until we flagged him down again and asked specifically to have that one refilled too.
On this trip, we had the sirloin strips appetizer and both had the salmon. The sirloin strips, usually very good, were slightly overcooked. The salmon, however, was excellent.
While this visit wasn't up to par, this is not our usual experience and we will go back."

"The decor is very plain-reminds me of a diner or mom and pop restuarant. Tables close together and the place could be noisy on a busy night. But the steaks are very good and prices very reasonable. I'll go back."

"Best bet to make reservations before going. Menu has great selections, something for everyone. Noted for their steak cooked in cast iron skillets. Looked like killer burgers being served to others, a must try on return trip."

"We both ordered the hot brown which was good, but not great. I was surprised to see that they used turkey luncheon meat instead of fresh turkey. I expected better."

"always enjoy cast iron and staff always super friendly to kids. but this time i noticed a gentleman that assume is newer manager that never smiled or spoke. felt as though our selecting his restaurant was an imposition. very strange evening at restaurant and certainly not our past experience as norm for cast iron."

"The steaks were awesome and the price was right. Cooked perfectly to order and very tender. I highly recommend the Cast Iron filet. If you bring your own bottle of wine, there is a $15.00 corking fee. I thought it was high, maybe $5.00 would be better. Our total bill for two steak dinners with the corking fee was $52.00."

"This restaurant is a nice addition to a historic area of town. the service was warm and attentive. The restaurant has a charming feel. My wife had the fish specially prepared and she was pleased with her meal. I had the ribeye and it was slightly overlooked and not as good as I had hoped. We had a wonderful time and will certainly be back to the Cast Iron Skillet."

"I was excited to go to Cast Iron Steakhouse, because I read reviewer comments that compared it to Ruth's Chris, but less expensive. I can say there is no comparison. Cast Iron does not have the ambiance nor the quality service and food that Ruth's Chris has. I was unimpressed by the service at the bar. Our cheese fries were good, but not great. My 6oz Filet was cooked perfectly. It was good quality meat, with good flavoring that was ruined by too much salt. Our waiter was very good. I can't say I won't go back, but it won't be my first choice. I'd go to Longhorn Steakhouse, before Cast Iron. I would recommend it for what it is, a casual, not very expensive, loud restaurant to get a decent meal, with family and friends."
