"My husband and I have gone to this restaurant, through changes of management, for decades. It's comfortable and the food is generally imaginative and tasty. There are off nights, but they are rare. However, since they did some "improvement" to the floor, the noise level has risen to a level that sometimes makes conversation challenging. The place has also become depressingly--and not romantically--- dark. I think some Cambridge ordinance against candles might be part of that, but the restaurant also stopped lighting the lights over the paintings on the sides of the room. Less noise and somewhat more light (to the level it used to be) would be a great improvement."

"The French Onion soup was out of this world. Steak cooked to perfection and served in a pleasing manner. The oysters etc. must have been delicious (my companions cleaned up the plate!) Dessert choices were good - chocolate mousse was delectable. It was priey as expected."

"Went for dinner and cocktails with a friend. Good cod cake appetizer and decent drinks. Special of the night (pork) a little overcooked. Generous amount of tasty lobster bisque. Mousse had hints of coffee that I enjoyed and she didn't (more for me!). Will Learned that they only serve cubano sandwich (a speciality) at the bar, so will eat on that side next time."

"Only one of the four items we ordered was good and nothing was exceptional. In particular, someone in the kitchen believes in salt, and not in small amounts. The pork loin we ordered also came significantly overcooked."

"Great food, though a pretty limited menu. We went a bit late, and they seem to stop serving relatively early (they close at 10:30pm, and we couldn't get more bread at 10:15 on a Friday night)"

"I took my friend here for her birthday and we had a fantastic time. The food was absolutely delicious! The staff was friendly and accommodating. And the ambiance was warm and inviting. My only complaint was the noise level. It got a bit loud at times but that just may have been the people on either side of us."

"This is our fifth time at Chez Henri and we know its a fantastic restaurant but we still get blown away everytime we dine here. The Mussels Mariniere was excellent, Fresh and plump mussels in an aromatic and tasty cream broth. Crispy Salt Cod Cakes were light and delicious. the Bouillabaisse was fantastic. The seafood was so fresh and the broth with its slight 'bite' to it was oh-so-good. The pan roasted chicken breast was the best I've ever had. I normally shy away from chicken breast at restaurant for fear of it being overdone and dry. Not here. The breast was juicy, the pan juice reduction was rich and the accompaniments were excellent. Our Compliments to the Chef and staff for another wonderful experience!"

"We enjoyed our visit to Chez Henri with great service and ambiance supporting good, not great, food. For a French-style restaurant I was shocked to find mainly West Coast U.S. wines on the menu. I was looking forward to a great French wine. The food among the four in my party ranged from fair to very good. Very good being the steak and fries. One disappointment was the creme brulee, again especially (un)notable given the French inspiration.
I was very pleased with the service, which was quick, accurate, and unobtrusive. Our server was friendly, professional, and quick witted. For all the reputation and effort put into service, I expected to be more impressed with the food."

"I've always had a great experience here but on this particular Saturday night it was bedlam: way too noisy, not enough servers, food came out not as I ordered, food not as well prepared as usual. I gave 3 stars based on good prior experiences."

"My 4th time at this restaurant. Wanted to bring my son to celebrate his 21stbirthday. Evidently the word is out on this place because there was no one there , us and two other tables. Dark and dingy. In disrepair but the worst was the food. Lobster bisque tasted like dishwater as did the bouillabaisse same broth. The steaks and fries were over salted...this coming from someone who likes salt. The salad dressing was also over salted. The only good thing ...the desserts! Ordered 3 different ones, they were all great?"

"I had heard good things, but I was wrong. This is a unanimous review among all 4 of the diners at the table. Service was spotty - took WAY too long to get appetizers, second drink, etc, appetizer order was messed up twice, entre order was placed incorrectly on the table, both appetizer and entre order had three come out at once and the fourth waiting a few minutes. Food was not good - the same lobster bisque appetizers came out two different ways, steak was extremely tough and flounder with almond was not good tasting. Waiter tried to compensate for lack of service with extra desserts, a nice gesture, but that never makes up for my restaurant choice being a bust. Makes me appreciate all the times I get the restaurant pick right."

"Unpleasantly noisy and hard to hear other people at the table- Bad acoustics and they had music. Dark enough to need flashlights for menu. Hard to park. Food was tasty but not very well presented and one entree came about 20 minutes after the others, although they did not charge for it. Service was generally slow and not very polished"

"Food and drinks were slow coming and the waiters were a bit too eager to take away the plates. For the amount we spent I expect to sit and enjoy my meal without being asked 5 times if I am done. Look at the position of my knife and fork for a clue."

"The steak frites, ceviche, and mussels were perfect. However, I cannot believe they served that bouillabaisse! It was as if they served the unseasoned water that they boiled the seafood in, and by seafood, I mean four mussels, and three shrimp. I am not exaggerating, and I am not exaggerating when I say that the entree was part of a $37 three course meal. The desert was equally as disappointing. The flavors of the fruit pavlova were not bad, but the presentation was that of a cow patty after a long pasture in a fruity field. They clearly have integrity. Several of their dishes were TOP NOTCH, but I CANNOT BELIEVE they would serve that bouillabaisse, or pavlova. They are unreliable, at best."

"The food is both classic and innovative. The room is elegant and charming in an old fashioned way that's more Paris than Porter Square. CH more expensive than most of its neighbors, but not ridiculously so, and the experience is more distinctive."

"MOre French than Cuban, but with lovely Cuban touches, bits of lime and orange with the flounder almondine, for example . . . tostones with a salsa fresca, spiced frites with the steak . . . everything quite rich, very delicious. Service is impeccably professional and knowledgeable."

"The service was really good, I just don't really think Cuban and French cuisines go well together. I usually like fusion food, but this was rather an exception. The place is a bit dark, and somewhat cramped, but comfortable nevertheless."

"With no vegan options on the menu, we had thought we would have to leave since one person in our group didn't relish watching us enjoy a meal. However, the staff were quick to remedy the situation and the chef created a beautiful plate of creatively prepared veggies. While this was not a vegan's dream, it allowed the rest of us to enjoy our dinner with less guilt.
The food was wonderful, location was convenient, the ambience was good, but the staff were the best!"

"My fiancee and I went to Chez Henri recently on a date night. We hadn't been out in a while and were looking forward to spoiling ourselves for an evening. Everything about the evening was great, but the food really didn't meet our expectations. It wasn't bad by any means, but it was less than we had built it up to be in our minds. She had a chicken dish which was good enough, but didn't have a unique flavor to it that made it exceptional. I had the bouillabaisse which was also "meh." My fiancee enjoyed her wine, but I was looking for a dry bitter cocktail, unfortunately everything the waiter recommended (I think I tried three) was way too sweet. We'll be back to Chez Henri, but not for a while--and with much lower expectations."

"So excited to try this restaurant and what a disappointment. We ordered a bottle of wine, they were out of it. They handed us the menus after sitting there for a good 15 mins. when we ordered they were out of one entree two people at the table wanted. Handed us the dessert menu, and when almost all of us wanted one particular dessert they WERE OUT OF THAT as well!!We were never informed before making our choices what was not available. When I finally asked to speak to a manager, there "was nobody like that here tonight" is what I was told. The waiter sent the bartender over and he apologized and asked how they could make it up to us. I asked for a discount for another visit and was told he did not have the authority to do that."

"had several great experiences there before. but a lousy, inattentive, aloof server made our experience less than desirable. enough, sadly, to take it off of our list of restaurants when the rare night out can happen. Food was tasty, but luke warm temp when the entrees came out, drops it a notch or two. expected much more from this place, at their prices. good luck."

"The service was cordial with an invitation to take our time in ordering. We ordered the cassoulet with white beans, chicken and sausage. It was fantastic. The portion size was large enough to bring home for the next day's dinner (added a bit of sausage). A restaurant's ambiance is as important to me as the food -- loud music, bright lights and inattentive service ruins it for me. Chez Henri is a warm, cozy place. The service was perfect."

"Everything about this restaurant makes me want to go back. The mussels in the special appetizer were huge and cooked perfectly for flavor and texture. The lobster bisque was a tad salty, but with a giant pile of fresh lobster in the middle to make me forgive. The salmon was superb. I can't comment on the drinks, not being a drinker. The warm apple almond tart was a knock-out. Not a lot, just right and perfectly prepared and presented. Always room for something like this. The service was personable, not haughty, not over-bearing, but someone was always there when we needed something. Not cheap, but great for a special occasion. I like that Chez Henri is a first class restaurant, but you can go in jeans and not feel out of place. Love it."

"Overall a great restaurant. The cocktails were amazing and I loved the appetizers-especially the ceviche and the lobster bisque. In the summer the windows open up to a quiet side street. The entree I had was slightly dissapointing- I had the salmon which was cooked perfectly and well seasoned but for some reason was served over a plain boiled potato and covered in a large amount of very watery green sauce which did nothing for the dish. my companion had the flounder special which was very good. Portions were a good size-large enough to satisfy without being overly filling. We went on saturday night with our 5 year old and the place was boisterous and full but we felt well attended to by the waitstaff."

"I hadn't been to this restaurant in years, and now I know why so many former fans have stayed away from it. The service was god-awful, from beginning to end. 15 minutes to get bread, 25 minutes to have our order taken. The onion soup took 30 minutes to bring out. The flounder was literally floating in an ocean of butter (with no real flavor). Can't say I'll be going back again."
