"Our group was seated on the lower level, it was dark, lacked ambiance and the acoustics were terrible. The staff ignored us most of the time, mixed up the orders, lost some of the orders, disappeared for very long periods of time, we had to go looking for them upstairs on more than one occasion. The food ranged from excellent to mostly passable. I would not recommend this restaurant, but if you do go, sit upstairs."

"I dont need my sushi/sashimi to come out with gold leaf on it--I just need it to be simple and good--which it obviously was not.
I asked the attendant and server before we ordered if this was the same as Oishii as the one in Chestnut Hill and they confirmed yes...but they LIED!!!
This restaurant is a joke of sushi spot. Just a plain disappointment and wast of time...oh and the money at this point does not even matter...."

"It's tremendous. The selection of fresh fish was incredible -- I never knew there were so many types of tuna. The prepared rolls were outstanding and in a different class from your every day spicy tuna roll. Ask for recommendations because the waitstaff know what they're doing. We didn't even look at the hot entrees, but we will have to explore that next time."

"Oishii is simply amazing. I've probably been here 40 times for lunch. $20 and $30 prix fixe sushi lunch that you will not believe. You'd pay triple this price for the same food here in the evening. It's the perfect place for a business lunch. Super quiet and practically empty at lunchtime. Highly recommended, but hope not too many people go as I still want it to be my secret!"

"I would actually say the Maki is not the star of the show here - go with a generous selection of apps and entrees. Sushi is okay, but their presentation is the winner (taste is a close second). Wife and I were constantly checking out plates on fire, smoking apps, etc. Our sushi selection was good, but not great. Very attentive staff made dining pleasant."

"I have always wanted to come here because I hear great things about the food. I am a sushi lover and when Bloomspot offered the discount I immediately took it. It is expensive but seriously worth it. Each maki roll we order was different, delicious, and a taste bud exciter. We loved the tuna rolled in toro roll and the one that had daikon radish on the outside. We also saw other tables order very cool appetizers and were delighted by the show. the service is impeccable! i liked the green tea tiramisu but i have had better. presentation was everything"

"As usual, nice relaxed atmostphere; the blowfish special was not to my taste, but was great to have the opportunity to taste such a fish; all the dishes with the black truffes were great (Hamachi truffe rolls, torched Toro sushi with risotto) and the individual sushi we chose, outstanding and mouth-melting. Service was a little slow at the beginning (we waited at least 15 min before the waitress came back to take our orders and had to ask her what the specials of the day were), but was fine as the evening progressed. Dessert was the molten cake with vanilla ice-cream and fresh strawberries that never disappoints!"

"Most of the sushi was not exceptional, nor different than an average sushi restaurant. One dish stood out, however, heads and shoulders above other sushis - White Tiger. Service was excellent with one exception - the waitstaff forgot to bring one of the sushis we had ordered. The ambiance is what makes this restaurant and probably what allows it to charge so much for its food."

"I chose to do the tasting menu and also did a Sake tasting as well. The food was absolutely fantastic, creative and delicious, it was a 9 course tasting menu and each course was done to the level of perfection. The pairings were fantastic, the waiter I had was very knowledgeable not only with the food but also with the Sake and his suggestions were perfect.
I don't get to Boston often but I would go back every time I visit."

"This place is EXPENSIVE. However, some of the things we got were quite good. I think we ordered more wisely this time. The spicy scallop roll was excellent if you like that sort of thing. Very well done. The soft shell crab roll was also good. We also got the spicy seafood udon soup, which was very good and loaded with seafood. We were pleasantly surprised with this one and given the other portion sizes we found this to be quite large. Good food. If money were no object I would have gone crazy, but I can't spend $35 on appetizers..."

"Early Sat.reservation before a show; food was good, server & service = great. Server explained specials & made recommendation on apps. Amuse bouche of edammame was only ok - more grit texture than I expected, maybe that was on purpose? There were lovely spices on top, but once you were past that, it veered off into bland. Seared OToro was good, salmon on fire was delicious & impressive. $30+ each? eh... entree of Sea bass was very very good - excellent in fact, the portion size was larger than expected - the 1/4 cup rice and 4 micro-leaves of spinach left something to be desired - everything had the same level of texture. Adding a bit of 'tooth' to the dish would have been nice. Squid ink pasta was very good but REALLY SMALL portion!"

"I called the restaurant on Wednesday in hopes to make a reservation for the following day, Thursday, for my best friend's birthday. The person I spoke to (kathy? katherine?) stated that she didn't have any tables available for us and quickly hung up. Rude much? Later I checked open table and found a table available at 7:30! Other than that, I was extremely satisfied with my dinner at Oishii. Our server was very attentive and gave great suggestions (and cute too!) The escargot tempura and smoked hamachi and kobe beef with red wine pear are must-trys! I also had the best lychee martini in my life. My best friend ordered the coconut sphere for her birthday dessert and it looked amazing!! Will definitely come back to try more items."

"My friends and I went here for our RW tasting. We had our table in the very deep corner inside the restaurant, a perfect spot for large group of 6 like us. It took us some time to decide on our order, which I don't think should be any problem since there weren't many diners at the time. Our food and tea arrived promptly to see that 1) teas were not hot 2) my smoky eel was missing its' avocado 3) lobster in the RW menu was stiff and dried like it's been out for awhile. Other than that, everyone seems happy with their food. Just one last word on their service, they were nice, but it seem too obvious that they try to make turns (collecting dish when we are eating) on the tables even if the tables beside us are empty."

"Very fresh assortment of fish at a reasonable price. The staff was helpful and readily available. The only reason why I gave 4 stars was because of the presentation of the food. It was not sloppy, but it wasn't thoughtful either. For $30/ maki roll, I would have liked it to have been more visual. Overall, good experience! Would dine here again. And FYI I did not order from the RW menu."

"We enjoyed our meal, but found it a bit overpriced for what you get. We got the black cod appetizer, which was good ($18). We got a sushi roll which was also fresh and quite good, (also $18). Our disappointment was with the lobster entree. We decided to splurge and get it ($39). It came with a nice presentation, but the "lobster tail" must have been from a chicken lobster, a one -pounder at most, as it was surprisingly small. It was on top of grilled pineapple, which was good, but there was at least twice as much pineapple as fish, so the flavor was overpowered and not balanced. The lobster flavor was not shown off at all, but rather hidden by the pineapple. Some presentations are quite dramatic, bordering on gimmicky (ice, fire)"

"Hands down best sushi in Boston. My wife and I were sat down stairs on a Sunday next to a loud group of eight. That was the only table in the room. It made the evening awkward. The hosts didn't remove the extra table so we had to squeeze in the corner. It made our evening that would have been great, less than average. The server was good, food. Just the seating was poorly planned and effected our experience. We ending up leaving after three dishes and going to another restaurant."
